Dona Dona is a Yiddish folk song written by the songwriters Aaron Zeitlin, Sholom Secunda, Arthur Kevess and Teddi Schwartz in 1940. Dona Dona is not about a girl, but a calf on the way to market about to be slaughtered. This song is seen as a metaphor for Jewish people in the Holocaust. The message is: don't be like sheep, you can carry sheep to the butcher, they will not protest. On the contrary: try to escape, fly like a swallow, ignoring all fences and frontiers - sung by Jewish people who escaped from Nazi Germany to New York 1940. The music here is in Hebrew
