P2 98-99 parsing hunter here. This is the most solid guide I’ve ever seen. Clearly explaining the fundamentals in a way I’ve been trying to do for a while now. I get a lot of people asking what they can do to increase their damage. There are outside factors like raid comps and buffs available, but if you don’t follow the fundamentals, you won’t be using it properly. Awesome job man!
*Thank you SO much* I for a change wanted play something different than tank or healer, so I made myself a hunter. He is well equipped, but I noticed my damage was very inconsistent, often throwing to the last ranks in damage. Thanks to your great explanations I figured out what going on :)
I don't play hunter myself, but this was a solid guide. Feel like i could pickup hunter tomorrow and know what I should do because of this guide. Cheers!
Really good guide dude. Nice and thorough while still easy to follow. Won't drop a link, but there's a handy WA called Hunter Rotation Helper w/ Attack Speed that actively tracks haste and adjusts the suggested rotation accordingly. Essentially says when you're in a good window to swap to 1:1 rotation. And if you're super hasted, 2:1. Can help a lot of newer hunters who don't know when they're meant to use which rotation.
Very good guide! I'm a new player, and just looking to join dungeons and raids. This gave me a lot of insight into what I should be looking out for and even how to prepare a bit. Going solo I've kinda just used everything as they come off cooldowns, and this made it so easy to understand how to work on my damage to mana use. Thanks a lot for the tips!
At last! I've been having a hell of a time trying to get my hunter in gear and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Your guide cleared up a LOT for me. Thank you!
I also use Quartz, and this video was very helpful to see what was being cast and when, it makes sense. My problem has been stepping on my autoshots, I guess I get too excited and just start mashing buttons in a manic ape sort of way.
Amazing guide mate, I'm new to WoW and have went Hunter on the classic TBC server Firemaw. The whole visual representation you have going to show the cool downs/rotation kick off times is perfect for someone like me, really breaks it down to make it easy to take in and learn and will instantly improve my gameplay by like 400% lol. The only thing I'm not sure about is do I need to worry much about the melee side of things? I prefer range so if not then all good! Stellar guide bud, helped me a ton coming from a new player perspective, thanks!
Very nice guide! I think it could have covered more about the haste changes/procs for hunter and how it affects the rotation but overall very solid guide.
A few things, 1)i don't know if it was fixed but the steady shot and kill command sometimes breaks your steady shot, i removed that macro and cast KC manually when triggered, also i noticed my pet does more dmg. 2)if you're using a 2.7 speed weapon that rotation will not work, most of your autoshots will clip. 3)Some fresh hunters struggle with mana, use rank 1 multishots and bring lots of mana pots and dark runes. 4) and this is for the new ppl who wants to roll a hunter, i hit 70 3 weeks ago and there is alot of competition, my guild runs with 6 hunters but most of the hunter gear you need are from dungeons and are easy to get, it takes like 1 week to fully gear a hunter for raids
If you're running out of mana: 1. Drop arcane Shot from rotation. Not multi. 2. Make sure your Pali is judging wisdom. 3. Typically you spend less mana during burn phase as you'll be using 1:1 rotation with everything popped, coupled with Judgement of Wisdom you should have good mana regen to stabilize. So knowing the boss fight duration and using cooldowns as often as possible will help with mana.
Nice guide for unhasted play. But you've not mentioned anything about how a change in attack speed (aspect of hawk proc, rapid fire, drums, haste pot, blood lust, DST proc etc) changes the the rotation. There are a couple of weak auras or addons that will show your attack speed on the UI so you can judge what to do. Overall though, a great explanation of the base (French) rotation.
Multishot has a hidden "cast time" which is why you cant cast it while moving. If i remeber correctly its .5 or .25 its really short but beware doing multishot just before Auto will cause a small delay on auto. The video is completly correct but fyi.
you should change your auto steady macro to have this /cast [@pettarget,harm,nodead] Kill Command this way you wont send your pet back in when it already DOESNT have a tar ie you had to pull him back
Great video, you have done a really good job of talking through it clearly and concisely. a couple of things: 1 CD on multishot is 10seconds, so you cannot actually have the 4 windows as you mention them 2 I can perform the SS-MS-Auto without clipping (delaying) but whenever i do the same for arcane: SS-AS-auto I always get a tiny clip on the following auto, do you know why that i?
What's your weapon speed? but I notice this too sometimes there's an extra delay outside of the global cooldown that makes your next steady shot after an arcane shot take even longer to start so you end up clipping the auto
@@SlamyJamy I have the sunfury bow, so i am 2.1speed. I think that probably Arcane shot (as a spell) has a 1.5sec GCD, and multisoht (as a ranged attack) has a 1sec GCD. thoughts?
Hey man, came across your video I did played TBC classic when it released, and went on somewhat level of knowledge of hunter, but this week i'm about to start a journey on TBC on a private server, and decided to review hunter stuff since im gona play it again, cause I love the way hunters go in TBC. Really solid work here, It clarified me on some stuff I was blank... Thanks for the video. One question I played Horde, so it was between orc/troll picks on that faction, for alliance do you think the extra agility of the nightelfs is substancial? or just minimal margin? Cause If I had to choose I probably pick dwarfs over NE.
It is also important to note that when ur shaman pops bloodlust and you use Rapid Fire, your rotation changes to 2 Autoshots: 1 Steady(+Multi) and arcane shots are not worth anymore in that time.
With the nuke, CD add Haste pots into the macro and go full ham on the first round of CDs and u can save ur mana with a pot 2 mins later once u get the next round and use a macro without Haste pot. U can use haste pots on almost all boss fights even with slow kills just need wisdom on boss and mana pots after the 2 mins. Its expensive put u get 99s for sure if u don't mess up.
I find myself a but on the dark when it comes to these guides. On one hand there are the players whose guides state to not use macros for steady/kill command in one button because you either cant cast them at the same time, etc. Then others who use heavy macros for pretty much all in one button style.
Hi TGamlock, good question. No I wouldn't say it is worth cancelling the steady shot if you notice you've cast it too late. It's bound to happen especially during heroism/bloodlust but if you cancel the steady shot you lose the damage from it. The auto shot will still go out after the steady shot completes anyway so let it cast and just look to re-align your rotation afterwards. 1x Steady shot + 1x Auto shot is better than just 1x Auto shot :)
Hey Ryban getting this question a lot so I've added my details to the video description but here's the links again :) Cast Bar/Auto Shot tracker - www.curseforge.com/wow/addons... Weak auras - Kill command wago.io/haaZwKUCh Range checker wago.io/NPGsOsl8e/6 and my UI is www.tukui.org/classic-tbc-addons.php?id=2
in your steady macro, i'd recommand adding the condition /cast [@pettarget, exist] Kill Command so the pet wont cast and run to your target if on petpassive or petstay mode
So I found out a while back that if you have even decent gear you don't want to use distracting shot as arcane/multi and even autos sometime will cause more threat. distracting shot has a set amount of threat(its really bad actually like 450 threat or something like that) where the others scale. basically once you hit hard enough distracting shot is bad on MD pulls. my md rotation is MD into aimshot- arcaneshot-multi. MD has alot of tricks to it. if you MD into an explosive trap before you shoot anything all the targets will be misdirected to the target. if you MD into multi shot it only uses one charge of the MD unless you hit more than one target.
I always try to keep serpent sting up, thinking it adds to my dps. I don't see it in your main rotation. Just wondering why you don't keep it up all the time. Thanks.
The only time I'd say it's worth casting a serpent sting is when you have to move and your arcane shot is on cooldown. It doesn't do enough damage to constantly waste a GCD on it
No not really, it's Damage is so little compared to other casts its GCD is better used on practically anything else. Even when moving you should only really use it if arcane shot is on cooldown too
If you want to compete on the DPS meters it has to be a ravager for now. Can get some cool skins for it though. www.wow-petopia.com/classic_bc/look.php?id=crawlervar8 this one is pretty nice looking

Haha that's pretty dangerous advise, "if your raid leader is telling you to watch threat just keep going ham you can feign death its fine" bosses have like a 16% resist chance for feign 😄 I've had it resist like 3-4 times in a row so wouldn't advise just pump and rely on it
The top DPS players are the ones pushing it to the limit. Are people gonna be angry at you if it resists and you get yourself killed sure but is your death going to cause a wipe? Probably not, only a handful of fights where over aggro can cause a huge issue
Isn't gcd supposed to be 0.5 secs? for multi, there is a 0.5 secs cast time, so it's 0.5 (cast time)+0.5(gcd) = 1s. For arcane shot it's only 0.5 secs gcd.
Yep, there's usually a MD one the tank at all times but it's more of a reminder to push yourself and your class and take a chance on FD or at least use it to (hopefully) dump aggro
Worst case is FD could resist and you pull aggo and die but wiping a raid is pretty unlikely. Very few fights have a mechanic where you can cause a wipe, hydross and voidreaver I guess? the advice is meant more of "don't be afraid to push it everynow and then". It's quite easy to just go HAM and once you notice you're catching the tank try to FD. If it resists you'll just have to stop all DPS and take the L to not over aggro. If FD goes off, happy days and keep nuking.
Before making your own guide, try to get some info, read hunter's discord or watch already existing videos. Auto-shot is not instant, its 0.5 sec cast time. GCD is 1.5 sec, not 1
True but the specific timings don't impact the information here in my opinion. Auto shot still need's to be cast first regardless if its instant or 0.5 seconds and the GCD will still delay you casting a steady shot right after a Multi-shot or arcane shot :)
