    @7:50 mark - that brought a smile, you play the standard Nhemamusasa that now rings in my head as soon as wake up each morning and go about my day. Learning a lot from you Mkoma Mugo, i hope you put all these lessons on a DVD so we can buy because you've put so much time and effort in your well structured and beautiful lessons for the whole world to learn such that i feel you deserve to be well compensated for your time and effort. Thank you so much, cant thank you enough! Kukura kwangu kwese ndanga ndisingatomboda kunzwa mbira...but something just awoke and now cant go to sleep without going through your lessons 🙂

      Many thanks for your compliments. DVDs were my original intention but technology has overtaken us - even I no longer have a DVD or CD player or computer that has a disc slot. So for now, TH-cam and maybe other social media platforms. And if u want to contribute something, I have a PayPal link in the description of the videos.

    This is so so cool. I enjoyed the yepasi version an awful lot(although I have heard it called yematare as well). Just to be sure, is the Serevende the same as together-left-right-left-together style?

    • @ZimbabweMbira
      @ZimbabweMbira  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks a bunch. Yes, some refer to Nhemamusasa yePasi (meaning played from bottom up) as Nhemamusasa yePasichigare (ancient version) or Nhemamusasa yeMatare (ritual version) or Nhemamusasa yeSerevende (the version you can play without end). But the part that Chihota plays in the video is a kutsinhira part for that Nhemamusasa yeSerevende, and it is close to the together-lt-rt-lt-together but playing the notes bottom up. Then Nhemamusasa yekutanga is a different song (although some refer to this song as Nhemamusasa yePasi, Buka rine Mavara, Chinyan'anya etc.). But we can still enjoy the music and versions despite naming inconsistencies.

    Would you please explain what Garikayi Tirikoti is playing in the 'severende' style? I hear the word often but do not understand what it signifies. Thank you!

    • @ZimbabweMbira
      @ZimbabweMbira  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Serevende means a song or version that (is so sweet and measured) you can play it without end. So it is used as a suffix or prefix for relevant versions of songs usually in the Nhemamusasa and Mahororo families. In the video, I am asking Tirikoti to play the kutsinhira part for Nhemamusasa yeSerevende (although I was playing the basic kushaura).
      Thomas Mapfumo recorded a song that he named Serevende. The mbira part is a two-phrase song.

      @@ZimbabweMbira Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. Would it always have the same rhythmic pattern, whether it is a Severende for Nhemamusasa or Mahororo, or does that not matter?

    • @kashi2012
      @kashi2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think maybe you have already answered this, now I see your answer to RudoMoto. Tatenda

    • @ZimbabweMbira
      @ZimbabweMbira  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The naming is not consistent. Musekiwa Chingodza's Serevende seems a straight Mahororo; Tirikoti's Serevende is Nhemamusasa yePasi; what Bezel showed me as Serevende yaKarigamombe is a Karigamombe with the rhythmic pattern of Karimugomba; Thomas Mapfumo has a two phrase song he named Serevende... and the list goes on.
