Last time I was down those tunnels was probably in the '80s. Fun times. The tunnels we used to explore in the cliffs above the Eastern docks have now been opened as a tourist attraction!

After a little research I have discovered the answer to the great escape tunnel, who dug it out and where it leads. It is chronicled on '28 Days Later' titled 'Report-- The Citadel's Southern Defences and tenaille, Western Heights- Dover 2014 - 2020'.

starfort can you see the arrows.
itlooks like they have removed equipment from the walls leaving the "fireplace"
in the small tunnels they have all been filled in on purpose to hide the true history look out for the rebar or metal objects on the walls in the tunnels that is interesting fguring out what was really here going on...

Just spotted your video online…totally fascinating! Found a few images online too showing layout diagrams which seem to look quite consistent with the rooms you were in being the ‘Short Casemates’, & one of them also shows an ‘Undergound gallery that goes to the Long Casemates’…if that was correct, I wonder whether that’d perhaps mean the ‘Long Casemates’ could potentially be the other side of the ‘shaft’ you found with the intact door next to it, as the diagram also seems to show a shaft along the ‘underground gallery’ too? Either way, wow - so interesting!

04:51 So did those cannon fill the length of that tunnel? If so, I imagine they could hurl an ordinance the size of a volkswagen a few miles out to see..

Wow what a Rabbit Warren that place is !! seems odd that someone would go to all that trouble to dig the tunnels out just to squeeze through the smallest holes? You are braver than me lads going in there 👍 great footage though !

All those those forts built many years ago and not needed in the end . I am kind of thinking the modern day equivalent is HS2 the high speed railway line post pandemic everyone is continuing to work from home.

Seems like people have been trained to expect tensions to boil up to almost the point of ww3 and then they seem to dissipate. One of these days I believe it will happen
