- Home assistant opens up a whole new world for home automations, especially for Apple Homekit users. In this video, see why I use Home assistant even as an Apple Home user and what you can do with it that you can't do natively in Homekit.

Yes to both! There’s not much coverage on dashboards, so having some more content here would be great. I’m still wanting to bring in Home Assistant (vs. HOOBs which I was running on Windows before buying a Mac over the holidays), so more ways to entice me to taking the plunge are good.
Great video! I think there are a lot of ways that Home assistant can really start to change how we manage our Apple homes. I love some of the examples you bring up around dashboards.
Thanks Eric!
Home Assistant is like God Mode for home automation. And it happily brings Apple Home along for the ride.
Very impressive floor plans. You have definitely put a lot of thought and work into this.
Thanks for this video. I would love a video on detail of how you created your house plan dashboard. I currently use SmartThings but am considering moving to Home Assistant and this is a big part of my decision. I really need a house plan dashboard for my wife to understand how to control the smart home device I have.
Hey Gary! This video got me started th-cam.com/video/6QbtU9ID47A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3jIjEoz5B5Yui72O
I also saw that smartthings was showing off some mapping features at CES that should be coming soon if you stick it out!
I’m installing a NAS soon and have starting to reach the limits of Apple Home so naturally I’ve been researching Home Assistant. Thanks for the overview.
I think that’s what I love about HA, once you feel like you’re outgrowing the basic functionality of HK, it opens a new world of possibilities! Have fun!
@@Delyn …seems to be the case. I’m looking forward to getting deeper into complexity. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for the shoutout 🙌
Thanks for the idea!
Hi. Love the video! I’m also exploring the world of smart home especially Home Assistant. Since I don’t have a huge budget and with my pi4 running HAOS linking to tplink tapo products. Works like a charm even linking it to HomeKit via the HA HomeKit bridge integration.
But one question, is it a must to have homehub device(Apple TV/Apple HomePod) then I just can invite/share my current HA in Homeapp to others? Or there’s a workaround.
I might be wrong but I believe you would need a home hub
Nice!!! do you need an Apple TV or Homepod to create the HomeKit instance as well? or just your iPhone and Home Assistant?
You do still need a home hub to be able to utilize Apple Home
Thanks! @@Delyn
I’ve never used HA before but was thinking of picking up the green and diving in. You mentioned adding the devices to HA before adding them to HomeKit I already have dozens of devices in my apple home. Is that going to be a problem?
If they’re already there, you would just have to remove them and set them up again from home assistant. I just posted a new video on how to do this!
Just got HA on a Raspberry Pi. I have a billion Aqara devices, how the heck do I get these into HA? I’m trying to add devices to HA first and then once done will create a new HK house to import all devices
Step 1: grab the HomeKit pairing code from the Aqara HUB you want to add to HA
Step 2: add the HomeKit bridge service and the HomeKit device service integrations to HA
Step 3: open your integrations page on HA
Step 4: remove the Aqara hub from your HomeKit home and then immediately click the newly discovered device that will pop up in HA
Step 5: enter the HK pairing code in this exact format XXX-XX-XXX
It should start pairing.
Next to get them back in HomeKit, you’ll use the HomeKit Bridge integration
Man thanks for that! Sounds terrifying to delete it out of HK. Break automations but that’s the life of a smarthome huh haha. Last question I promise, does this bring in Aqara cameras and U100 as well?
do you create your automations in home assistant or HomeKit or both?
I use both! Check out my video on the four layers of automation with the Aqara fp2
