This game looks absolutely goddamn fantastic. There is so much character here and listening to the devs, they have extremely refreshing design philosophies.
I enjoyed this so much! The fighting game logic and character concept is so in depth! EX in a platform fighter? Yes! And I love the off stage options. I’m so excited for this!
I hope this is one of those games that people will stay playing and won't ditch it. I always feel for the platform fighter devs cause people always dip after the new car smell is gone
There’s a lot of smart choices here for things to keep and do away with from smash and other platform fighters. Taking the parry from Ultimate (one of the best implementations of that idea) but doing away with special fall and choosing not to include a burst is really interesting. Special fall is such a standard part of these games no one even questions it, but the recoveries and offstage play is crazy and super fun looking. And since recovery is so easy, you don’t need a burst (which just feels bad for both players in plat fighters). Really cool how the systems work together. Also while the art style is definitely weird and a little off putting at first, it has a lot of charm and character that other games trying to get into this niche (cough Rushdown Revolt) don’t have. As a smash and FGC player, I’m excited to see where this goes!
Likewise I play mostly fgc and platform fighters on the side. My issue with them is the separation of them.. but this game seems to be good for if u play either fgc or platformers and u won’t take much of a hit if you like familiarity with one of them
man this game looks great, for me rn the one thing that separates this from other platform fighters is the STYLE it uses. i'm really blown away with how visually interesting this is, i hope the rest of the cast they show have some SICK designs
Whoever did the hit effects for this game should get contracted to work on every other indie platform fighter, or at least be shamelessly ripped off because this sound design is leagues above the competition. One thing I don't like about non smash platform fighters is how they sound like a bunch of wet pancakes smacking each other. Meanwhile I've watched this video for like 2 to 3 minutes and the sound effects are already stuck in my head dude and I mean that in a good way
@@Chr1sT0fu rivals 2 is looking to be a great game, and I look forward to purchasing a copy of it when it comes out. But if we are just talking solely about sound design, then I do prefer combo devils over it.

"If it was a Fox clone or Marth clone, why wouldn't I go play Melee?" THANK YOU! Platform fighters keep shooting themselves in the foot trying to be Melee 2.0 instead of bringing unique ideas
I feel you. I feel like some of these people are giving false hope to this game. I’m looking at it and all I see is SSBM 🤷🏿♂️ a ninja fox? Really? The mechanics is there but I’m afraid the originality is not.
I hope you guys zoom the camera out a bit more so that you can also relax its movement a bit. Its hard to follow the motion, even as someone who has played Melee for 2 decades now. Looks great otherwise though, I appreciate your efforts for visual clarity for mechanical indicators.
Game looks good but some improvements would be: Graphics - I understand the budget can be tight but may be polish on effects to make the game look clean. At the moment the game doesn't pop if I were a casual observer. Game Title - "Combo Devils" has a competitive connotation, so I don't know if that is the name you want if want a casual audience, it's minor but everything adds up. Hit effects - I think punches and kicks need motion lines/woosh effects And hit sparks needs to be added. Good things: Good Animations for a indie platform fighter and sound effects are good.
If I'm being honest the parry sound sounds a little too much like a text notification. I checked my phone so many times watching this. Game looks great though
This game looks cool, i really wanna play it! as someone who plays traditional fighters as a kid the in-game ui is easy for me to understand. I personally wish we can have unique platform fighters without people saying that these games don't feel like smash, i feel that they gotta make they game feel n play remotely different in some way, if devs actually does copy every single detail from smash, it will literally be what people already called these games "The Smash clones", n that's stupid to want every platform fighter to feel like smash bros, if u want the feel of smash bros, just play smash bros. As someone who played most of the smash games, they honestly play terrible in controls especially smash ultimate, im a casual who just plays offline alone n i consider the more competitive platform fighters to have less finger-hurting, smoother, n more responsive gameplay than smash bros. don't get me wrong i like smash bros but the games gets boring as hell after a few matches (just my personal experience), i can never find a smash game that'll keep me playing for several hours outside of project m, project m remix, smash 4, smash flash 2, n smash crusade. This is my personal opinion not a fact.
everything looks pretty great love all the mechanics just couple things, really disappointed this does the smash ultimate let go of shield to parry, that's always been so unintuitive for me, i prefer it when u press like rivals of aether also i think jingo's model looks a bit off, mainly with his eyes, like i saw his char select art and it feels like the eyes should be more like that
This would be dope if they had like a perfect parry system that would penalize the attacker I think that would be so different for a platform fighter 😎
The robot achillies is from neon genesis evangelion and the spear girl is nidalee with a bat and I’m p sure I’ve seen that somewhere b4 this is so weird maybe i remember the trailer from b4 and thats where i seen it
Look, all the skill and hard work put into the game seems very good and I respect the effort 100%. And there are some genuinely cool and original QoL features about it. However I can't help but to feels there's no real purpose in this game other than "melee but a bunch of stuff we like". Ultimately going to flounder into irrelevance either on arrival or shortly after release. The target audience seems to go only after hardcore Melee enthusiasts, with a little hint of Smash Ultimate and UMVC3, but then they'll quickly drop this game and go back to Smash. 1. The character designs, while sporting some uniqueness, ultimately feel like a hodge podge of what the creators thought was cool on their twitter art feeds, and that's about it. The characters have no cohesion when placed together and lack originality. Jingo looks like a generic fluffy doggo mascot and his gameplay is "melee fox but ninja". Achiles looks like an Evangelion, with a moveset largely stripped from captain falcon. Ikani looks like a dozen of other forgettable indie protagonists. 2. A platform fighter with a ton of UI just seems like such a big no no. I can't imagine all that stuff being on the screen in a platform fighter where you have to keep track of your character on screen. There's even parts where the super bar and the health bar obscure where the player is currently at. Smash UI keeps it simple for a reason. 3. I'm hoping all of the sound design is just a placeholder, but if I were to critique it now, it's terrible. A bunch of ripped sound effects from other games, noticeably Dragon Ball, loudly clashing with one another. Plus an annoying electricity stock sound everytime a finishing attack connects. 4. The gameplan for each characters seems too much of the same. Sure there are playstyle differences, speed differences, and certain gimmicks for each character, but the fact the three characters so fact just seem "who pulls of the biggest swag combo" and "who shuffles around the stage the fastest" makes the game seem really closed off and insular. 5. Now I'm not one to talk about graphics when talking about a indie game, since I understand the struggle..... but..... the fact that N64 style Jingo looks better than normal Jingo is..... ehhh... May want to work on that polycount. Again I respect all the work that's been done and the fact that the product is coming along smoothly, but I feel like it falls into the trappings of the many other forgotten Smash Clones that don't even reach a small fraction of smash's success. I wish y'all success for the effort alone, but some serious reconsideration needs if you want it to last longer than a fleeting spark in the wind.
The UI is awesome, I think its an interesting thing to explore in a platform fighter. Definitely UI obscuring character location is something that needs to be considered, and there can be a more imaginative creative solution other than its simply impossible to have UI like this in the genre. Other than that valid criticism, your points seem rather subjective. Seem to miss the point of what the game is celebrating; the lineage it's excited about. Obviously fighting games are self referential.
comment will get catalogued as hate but man this is exactly what devs need to hear and address. don't want the same fate as icons, nasb or rushdown revolt to happen again. UI feels cluttered and so far the only interesting character is Jingo.

I'm genuinely not getting the hype for this game. I mean it looks okay but not really as combo electric as Rushdown Revolt. It just seems like a faster pace smash. I'd like some explanation.
