Since I travel the rivers more than the seas, a Great Harbour's 3 foot draft is perfect to snuggle into a quiet slew of the Mississippi River to camp surrounded by wildlife. Very relaxing.
I've got a friend that owns one and shares his photos and updates on Facebook. He gets to go to far more rivers and bays than most people on boats the same size thanks to the shallow draft
Thanks Stephen! I shot this video in a horrible, damp day with Florida's good old pollen everywhere too! I can confirm while I was onboard, Eric was on the phone arranging for it to be professionally detailed, top to bottom. All the main work I saw that needed done on this boat, could easily be taken care of over a weekend with little costs involved.
I'm friends with the owner of the other GH47 I featured. He cruises up and down the east coast from Florida to Maine with his wife and pup. Fantastic liveaboard cruisers 🤠
Thanks Arek, glad you enjoyed the video. I have 1 more video I am still editing, and have several other shoots getting lined up to add to the channel. If you hit the subscribe button, you should get a notification any time a new video goes live.
Awesome!! Thank you! I am working on final edits of a 65ft classic wooden yacht that needs the fuel tanks topped up, and the fridge topped up..........other than that she is turn key!
Thank you for the feedback. If I am honest, I had the same concerns when I first saw the design. However, if I had the time and money, I would assist in delivering this boat anywhere the fuel range would take her. Firstly, when I stepped onboard at 200lbs+, the boat didn't budge an inch, she was rock steady. The secret is the weight distribution. She has a displacement somewhere in the region of 70,000 lbs. The engines and tanks are all very low in the boat. The construction also uses buoyant core material in the decks, superstructure and hull area above the rub rail. In other words, although she is tall, she is very light up top and heavy down below. This is a great, long distance cruiser that is very much at home in open waters as she is in shallow bays. Best of both worlds!
There are certainly a lot of boats out there for 500k. However 2 big arguments for this one is its range and also the fact she is unsinkable. This one is ready to take you wherever you want to go 😎
@@GarnockReviews Well.. unsinkable is a big promise. I do like the boat though.. and there are others that are around that price.. but since (at 70 years of age) I am not bound to cross oceans any more.. A nice river or Puget sounds boat is about my speed.. something to live on a bit and enjoy life..
Hey Luis, thanks for watching my video. Here's a link to the manufacturer site that shows good layout drawings. You have 2 cabins plus the watch cabin upstairs as well...... www.greatharbourtrawlers.com/gh47-specifications-and-layout.html
Another great review! The Great Harbour GH47 is one of my favourites because of it shallow draught, unsinkability, and amazing use of space. If I were to buy a trawler now it would be a difficult to decision - Nordhavn or Great Harbour...? 😬
Thanks Dirk, glad you enjoyed it! If I were to make that decision for you, I would be tempted leaning more towards Great Harbour than Nordhavn. Both are great boats, but most Nordhavn's I have been around are all single screw. I personally would rather have 2 small engines for increased reliability and maneuverability, than 1 larger engine.
I've actually got another Great Harbour coming very soon. Shot the film on Friday and will hopefully have editing and sign off complete early next week 🤠
Looking for a boat just like this as a live-aboard...looper. Please educate me on maintenance costs. How much is a 1000 hour diesel service on the little Yanmars? Obviously, this boat is very fuel efficient, but what costs would an owner incur per year, not counting the obvious insurance and fuel?
Thanks Rusty. A lot of the time it depends on the boat and location to be honest. The Great Harbour boasts excellent engine room access, so that should help lower costs. I did a quick Google search and for your normal maintenance of oil changes, oil filter and fuel filter replacement, you can do most of that yourself and on a boat like this, I would think you are talking hundreds of dollars, not thousands. For major service intervals like the 1000 hour service, I was finding guide prices of somewhere around $5k mark. You also need to factor in insurance, mooring fees, finance, lift out and paint every 2 - 3 years, varnish/polish as needed. I would vote try and do as much work yourself, take your time, and save the costs. The upside is you also know how to carry out any repairs if needed when underway or away from your home port. Regardless of what boat you buy, I would recommend a good survey and mechanical inspection before buying. At least that way you know what you are getting for your money.
@@GarnockReviews thank you for your quick response! My brother in law is currently having his 1000 hours major done on a pair of V8 MAN engines in S. FL....close to $20-25k !! That's why I have concerns. 4 cylinder Yanmars should be relatively easy on the wallet compared to others .
When I was searching for 1000 hour costs for you I was finding some crazy prices too! Biggest expense is arguably labor rate. If you have engine room access and they don't have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to them, that will save you hours which will save you $$$$
I wouldn't hold it against GH for having a dehumidifier onboard. A lot of the boats I am on have one onboard, you just don't always see it on my videos. They are great to have, especially if the boat is not being used on a regular basis.
Still going strong. I visited the yard last year, and they had several boats under construction at the time. Don't hold me to it, but from memory, it was the N37 and GH37 that was under construction.
This one is still for sale, but the Great Harbour N47 I shot on the same day is currently under contract. I will be heading to a Great Harbour GH37 next week to add to the channel soon. These are great boats that get a lot of following.
Guilty as charged 😃 I moved over here in 2008 but still have my accent come through from time to time. Not going to add bagpipes to the background music.......I promise 😜
They are actually more stable than you would first think. When I first saw one I assumed it would rollover like the lottery every week, but now I have a totally different opinion and understanding. The engines, fuel, water etc all sit very low in the hull. This gives a very low center if gravity. The construction from the rub rail up, is all from a cored construction. This means it is super light up top and heavy down below. There was a 37ft Great Harbour that was delivered to Hawaii under it's own power and not many can do that!
Hey Charles, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave feedback. This one is actually under offer and will likely close soon. I did however, wake up to 2 emails about additional trawlers to add to the channel very soon. Hopefully these will be more to your liking 😉
That's from one of my very early videos. Only around 3 or 4 videos have music. Based on everyone's feedback and as I learned new tools for editing etc, music got dropped 😉

Great trawler. Outside needs some lovin but inside is top notch

Nice boat! Lots of space!
Thanks! I agree, for a boat under 50ft, I doubt many can compete with the space onboard!
I want one!!!

Like it thanks
one concern: how is something this tall and shallow draft not prone to capsize? Beam seas a problem?

I liked the lay out but for 500 k that is kind of a show stopper considering all the other trawlers of good caliber out there for less

@@GarnockReviews very interesting yacht. And cute, too. The only doubt I have is sail or no sail.
That's a tough call, but at least this one has super low fuel consumption that the costs will feel closer to sail than most powerboats of this size 😉
For a 2008 boat it looks like it was designed and decorated in the 1960 would not care to own and I like trawlers
