No need to use Pythagoras, if the total length is 9 and I know the middle is 4, and the two triangles are the same I could just say 9-4=5 and then say 5/2=25,5cm. So that 2,8cm is a bit suspicious but great question anyway. Also maths lit learners dont go too far to solve pythagoras equation.
