I am a Brit in California and no one walks. My sister, in the UK is 74 y/o and walks between 20k and 30k steps per day on nature walks with her hubby. I don't see nature trails out here. Plus, the heat levels are such that it's too hot to go out hiking.

I always suspect that when Americans say they are hiking. It’s just what we in the UK would consider a little stroll

Attack the Block movie you're thinking of, a Film 4 movie mainly. It was first properly shown on the Film 4 TV channel here, as where most saw it there first

Check out Scotland as well. Country, nature, walking (some serious - look up the Aonach Eagach, which is magic)
People are mostly pleasant, kind and in their community.
    It is my home.

We dont really get freezing temperatures even in winter, something that americans might not know too is how late the sun sets like literally this week is the longest days of the year and the sun basically isnt setting all the way. Other times it doesnt set until 11pm in the summer. Downside though is that it sets at like 4pm in the winter. A cool thing we have too is the right to roam so we can walk pretty much anywhere, there isnt really 'hiking trails' because in a sense the whole country is a trail with some old roads and paths dating back 5000+ years or more. Also very very little insects compared to the usa, basically no mosquitos, nothing in nature can hurt you really, we dont really have predators either. Ive literally just laid down on the grass on many a summer day or even camping and never had an issue with bugs or animals. We dont even really have ants.

In the heart of London there is a park, Hyde Park and there you will find the Serpentine Lido, it is home to the Serpentine Swimming Club the oldest swimming club in England if you like open water swimming it is fab, you can swim there from 05:30 am and there is a cafe with waterside tables who knows you could be swimming with ducks, oh and google the Christmas Day swim.

Walking is one of those simple things that keep mind & body in good stead. Great for problem-solving, conversation with a walking mate, rewarding when the pub is on the horizon & if there's live music thumping on the floor of that pub then you've accomplished an 'all-rounder' benefit from that walk. Love your stints & thoughts on 'us' over the pond 💚

Walking is good for mental health, I walk at least a couple of miles every day because it keeps my perspective centred. It's also great heart exercise, fat or thin a 20 minute brisk walk (not defined as fast walking but just walking at a pace that lifts your heart rate slightly) reduces your risk of heart attack by 50%, basically 1-1.5 miles a day. In the UK we have public footpaths criss-crossing the land allowing access to walk through private property. These paths can date back all the way back to the Neolithic era going back to before the Pyramids were built. When you know how to read the footpaths they really are a fantastic way to get out into the countryside, great in summer cutting through farmers fields full of crops or animals like Horses, by law farmers must maintain footpaths that pass through their land and facilitate access to them.

Attack the Block is the film, big mistake for aliens to try invading an English council estate, they'd end up being shouted at on daytime TV by Jeremy Kyle.

Britain is on the same Latitude has Hudson Bay Canada, so it would be alot colder if it wasn't for the Gulf Stream, Which starts in the Gulf of Mexico flows up the Atlantic and Past the British Isles. Keeping the British and Ireland warmer.

Ramblers are a very close-knit community, those that value the countryside seem to be in tune with each other.
Here in the UK if you can walk it in half an hour one way and you're not carrying a large load, you walk it...
Be a dog lover too because walkers often have dogs...

On my first trip to the US our guide told us that she could always tell when a tour coach broke down whether it had UK or US citizens as passengers. If the tourists were hanging around the coach waiting to be let back on the bus they were US, if they had wandered off to "Stretch my legs a bit" or a "little stroll" (which knowing some UK walking fans could be not so little) then they were Brits. Her experience has taught her that rounding them up could be a lengthy task, so we were sternly but kindly warned about wandering off.😀😀

Hey! I’ve watched a few of your videos now. Can’t you get hay fever Antihistamines in the US? They’re only a couple of quid here! Also baby hay fever eye wipes to stop itchy/watery eyes. BTW, I have enjoyed your non judgmental opinions. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm a little worried about your expectation on how polite we are. It's just incase you bump into someone on a bad day, or just a 'banker' (keeping it clean). I'm sure you'll be able to read who's going to be helpful, I just wanted to warn you. Just incase your first person you meet is the local nutta, and you think he's helping you.
I don't think it would happen, but you do seem to be building us up a little.

Get out of London an hour northward and you can drop the cost of living between 25%-50%... They even add a London weighting because it's so much more expensive, and housing forget it...
