    I own a Rolex GMT Master II 16710 and I'm considering getting one of these. Why? When I got my Rolex back around 2003, we bought it used for about $3000. I used it as a daily wear for close to 15 years. Sun or rain, swimming or tux, salt water or fresh. I only used a beater (Marathon Navigator) for some sports, carrying things, etc. Today, that same watch is worth something like $8-9K. And now I'm getting annoyed rather than pleased because I'm worried about it now. I realize $3K is a lot of money for many people (me too) but remember it's about $1000 more than the laptop we all buy and then chuck out the window five years later. Anyway, This watch is does what Rolex used to do in the 1960s and 1970s. At $700 it's a lot more than a Casio at $150 but you get a watch that could last decades if you wanted it to and - while not cheap - can be worn the way I used to wear the Rolex. I don't consider this a knock-off. It has a great movement (but cheaper to repair than the Rolex), quality build, nice design, ceramic, sapphire, screw-down, AR, 316 steel … I mean, that's a Tudor. What else do you want? Personally, in this market, I would have said make a 41mm like Tudor and Omega and call it a day but what do I know. Still, this is good work.

      @Bryan Davis It's a strange and slightly annoying problem, actually. It was a gift when I finished my Ph.D. so it's something I would never sell (and couldn't afford to buy anymore either). My solution is to just wear it and enjoy it and forget about the rest. As for the ocean, I went completely the other direction. A Suunto sport watch with a heart monitor. I wanted to see what tech was like. Turns out I like it for sports but don't enjoy it as a watch. So it's a neat tool to help me exercise.

    It is evident this model was inspired on a Rolex GMT Master ii but I feel Steinhart did an awesome job giving the watch a character of its own. Based on that fact I just ordered one today and I have the feeling it may end up being the watch with most wrist time from the few I own. Thanks for the video!

    A uni-directional bezel is so rare on a GMT. I'm very glad they did it because it can safely be used as a backup timer for dives. I don't see what you are losing by only being able to turn the bezel one way. You can still set it to whatever time you'd like.

    • @WuClear
      @WuClear 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly.

    • @davids.2317
      @davids.2317 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can it be used as a dive timer with no minute markers? It's done to keep the cost down and is a cop out. Companies that make proper GMT watches put bi directional bezels on them because its quicker to set the time with them.

    • @jtfreelancer
      @jtfreelancer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davids.2317 No stretch of the imagination. 2 = 5; 4 = 10... etc. Set the pip when you start the dive. No less accurate than most dive bezels that only show minute marks for the first 15-20 minutes. I wouldn't be using an analogue watch as my primary dive timer anyways. Just a rough estimate. Most sport dive profiles are 25-30 minutes at 60-70 feet. I use the bezel on my Omega PO GMT black and white the same way but it is bi-directional so could theoretically get bumped in the wrong direction. Never had that issue and again it isn't my primary timing device. The one nice thing about that model of PO GMT is the minute hash marks for all 60 minutes.

  • @mariuslotz9680
    @mariuslotz9680 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    to make an excuse for the unidirectional bezel: at 500m WR this is a serious diver and so you get a usable diver-bezel in exchange for a slightly less comfortable to adjust (but still usable) 3rd timezone - makes sense to me tbh. In reality you might use both functions equaly often for what they where intended - probably never 😁. Also they have this watch in titanium, for the same price even - would still go with the steel, tho. Great video btw!

      500 m certified by who?

    • @Lukas-jm7cx
      @Lukas-jm7cx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaels3003 Not Sure by whom it is certified but my 39 ocean one did fine while I was swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. I was even able to dive around 2 meters down. Considering most people will never seriously dive with such a watch it is save to stay that it will withstand any casual swim in the pool for example. And those meters marks are not meant to define how deep you can actually dive. A 3 ATM watch will in 99/100 cases leak water when you throw it into a 3 meter deep pool. Only watches above 10 ATM like 20 ATM/200m should be used to swim.

    Very nice 39. I've owned the 500 gmt in the previous 42mm twice I lied it so much. My 2nd favorite Steinhart. Yes, it had a display back too.
    This one is the best at 39mm and stainless steel. The Titanium wasn't all that much lighter imho and the finish between case, bracelet and clasp (especially) was all over the place and mismatched, unfortunately.
    I like Oyster bracelet for tool look. But, this would look pretty cool on their jubilee bracelet option.
    I would totally be on this one had it come sooner.. And maybe when I was more into homage watches. As it is, I am very happy with my recent Glycine The Chief (aka Airman) for a gmt watch.
    Still. Great job at translating the 500 gmt into 39mm and stainless steel which is much more versatile, matches throughout, and is less obvious scratch magnet.
    If the 39mm cases are the same, it's amazing they are able to keep it the same while upping the wr to 500m from the much 200m of previous 39mm models.
    Not going to get into it, but some people are idiots to say this is a knockoff or Ripoff of a Rolex. It. Has plenty of unique details. That set It apart from one. Awesome watch and a favorite and I'll defend it.

    I have a 6.75" wrist and wear a 44mm/50mm lug to lug Luminox 3150 on the metal bracelet, and Im happy with how it fits/looks. I also have a Cyma Navystar Chrono that is 39mm/47mm lug to lug. It wears fine too, but I wouldnt want any smaller. I am having trouble deciding on which Steinhart size to go with. Apparently they wear a little bit large due to the lug design? If Im fine with a 44mm Luminox then I should be fine with a 42mm Steinhart O1? But I really like this Primo batman GMT, esp if they wear large. Only open to Stainless, not interested in Ti.

    As much as I love the design...: I had this one and the 42mm Ti version on my wrist and the 39mm looked a bit "off" in the flesh. It took me a while to understand why, but I'm pretty certain that it was the hands. They look great on the larger model but on the 39mm they seem a bit "stubby", for lack of a better word. I had looked at the watch in countless pics and videos before trying it on and it only looked weird to me when I saw it in real life. I would still wear it, mind you ... just saying that perhaps these broad hands aren't the best choice for a 39mm.

    Great vid and thanks for showing this brand. I was looking for a GMT and was going to go with a major name brands baby brother, but now this is a more economical choice. I like a larger diameter watch due to my wrist size, so I think I will be going with either the

    I have a Steinhart 44mm Ocean GMT in black. There are two disappointments I have with the watch. First, I feel like the chapter ring on it is HUGE!! It almost seems like they just used the same dial that they have on the smaller models, and increased the size of the chapter ring to fill the bigger case- not a good look, IMHO. Secondly, the clasp is a friction lock with a simple fold-over. I realize that these watches are GREAT bargains for the level of quality they represent, but come on- give us a two button clasp deployant, and charge an extra five bucks?!
    Anyway, sorry for the rant. Enjoy your new watch Rob!! Know anybody who might like to purchase mine?

    • @patricj951

      Have you tried or bought one yet?
      I would like the size of 42mm bezel and around 30mm dial because I am worry that the 39mm model appears too small with only around 28mm dial. But 50mm lug to lug combined with that the lugs of Steinharts are more straight than usual means that the 42mm model may be too big on my 6,7 inch wrist.
      I think 42mm is the right size for your larger wrist, though.

      Sorry sold the watch. I use reader glasses, and good screwdriver. Being able to see (glasses and lights) really help with the process. Good tool is also key. Remove screws between links that need to be removed, remove links, line remaking links back up, replace screw. Put loose parts in small baggie and place back in box.
