I stopped cooking my soups etc in the can after realizing you can easily melt the plastic lining that is inside. The interwebs is conflicted as to wether or not its incredibly bad for you so I simply stay on the safe side. I'll still do it in a pinch but try to plan my meals ahead so that I dont have too.
Next time definitely bring a multitool with knives + can opener and some metal spoons, good stuff. think McDonalds parking lot is not legal, but walmart might be

Slept half the night at a McDonalds across from the dam in Wisconsin Dells once. Got sick of the cops driving around our car so went across the street to the restaurant next to the dam and the cops left us alone.
The parking lot at McDonald's isn't a public parking lot unfortunately, it's private property... but if anyone comes to harass you, just cough... you should really crack the window a bit to prevent so much condensation on the windows, it's an idea
