$100,000 Pyramid (2016) S1 Ep4 Winner's Circle Down to the Wire - Bellamy Young & Kyle

  • Contestant Kyle goes for $50,000 in the winner's circle with Bellamy Young. Kyle almost blows it on the 4th subject "Things You Read" before recovering and just BARELY getting Bellamy to guess the final subject in the nick of time! Michael Strahan couldn't believe it either!

    Out of all of ABC's Game Show reboots (excepting for Wheel of Fortune), I think Michael does the best job of hosting. He embraces the method of building drama the way Dick Clark mastered. My only complaint about the show is...the contestants should be receiving clues in the Winner's Circle. Not the celebrities.

      @PhilipJReed-db3zc ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was at the option of the contestant, for most of the Pyramid's various runs, wasn't it? Most would receive but not all.

      @PhilipJReed-db3zc ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, they've really relaxed enforcement of that rule over various incarnations of the Pyramid. I like them being lax, but here it really was a pretty clear giveaway and not really a modifier we really use much for "doctor."
      My clue: a VERY SICK patient. A CRITICAL patient.

    • @onnapnewo
      @onnapnewo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Urgent isn’t really a synonym for emergency, though its usage as a clue is wonky at best. You couldn’t get away with saying “Call 911, it’s an urgent.”

    I'm grateful that they brought back the $100,000 pyramid since the late Dick Clark Era of the $100,000 pyramid and Michael Strahan is doing excellent job hosting pyramid the late Dick Clark would be proud of.

      He sure is doing a great job, and I applaud him for his excellent execution. The only thing I do not like are the risqué categories or clue words that they use. It is sad that a decent family show is now a TV-14 rating, which is a huge shame because I remember learning my words watching the Dick Clark version reruns when I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s. What is odd about this format is that the contestant gives the clues in the winner's circle; I have yet to see a contestant sit in the receiving chair as they used to do in the Dick Clark/Bill Cullen years. Other than that, the show is great for what it is.

    • @davidc8988

      I "don't know anything"? I thank you for your sheer negativity, disparaging remarks, and your hostility toward me. Telling others what they can and cannot do shows who you are. How would you feel if I said the same things to you? I choose not to because I choose to be professional and kind to others; I show integrity when treating others the way they want to be treated themselves, and I wished others would display this core value.
      Being a game show enthusiast for over 25 years, I observe what I observe. When I watched at least four episodes of this version of Pyramid, the first thing I observed was the TV-14 rating. This proves that the game show is not suitable for everyone, especially children, which is why I commented about my first-hand experience when I grew up watching the Dick Clark era programs. On this version, I noticed the sexual references, and jokes that have connotations, which, IMHO, does not belong on a show that is considered as a family show--there is nothing wrong with showing decency; modern programming have capitalized on these negative references and connotations, and it is quite a shame.
      The categories are challenging, but doable. Contestants giving the Winner Circle clues consistently (this change began during the Mike Richards run) is a different element from the Dick Clark/Bill Cullen era because, during their era, they elected to receive/give the clues. It is better for the contestant to elect to receive/give because the contestant would have a better advantage in displaying their strengths. Overall, this revival version is far better than the Donny Osmond version.

      I've been a Pyramid fan for decades. Back when the show was produced in NYC, I was able to get in to a taping at the old ABC Studio TV-15 (The Elysee Theater), long since demolished. In the old versions, they had a stable of guests who had played the game over and over and knew it well. They practiced it. I remember Dick Clark saying that one time when a contestant did want to give the clues. Also, the guests were very sharp (e.g. Shelley Smith, LeVar Burton, Mary Cadorette, Markie Post, David Graf, Betty White, Charlie Seibert, and others I can't remember). The current crop of personalities can't hold a candle to them. As far as Michael Strahan is concerned, he ain't no Dick Clark but he does the job OK. The TV-14 rating is an absolute travesty. Maybe they have to do it because the show is on at night. I wish they'd bring it back daytime and make it a family show again.

      Jamie Farr got buzzed in the 80s version because he said "Things That Have Static" for Things That Cling. Guess the judges are more lenient now than then.

    • @dickclarkfan1
      @dickclarkfan1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If Jamie had stopped himself before he said Static, Bob Stewart would not have buzzed him. At the point Jamie said Static, Jamie is conveying the essence of the subject which is not allowed.
      The rules of the Winners' Circle are generally as follows:
      * GIVE ONLY A LIST OF ITEMS THAT FIT INTO THE SUBJECT
      * DO NOT PANTOMIME
      * DO NOT DESCRIBE THE SUBJECT
      * DO NOT CONVEY THE OPERATIVE WORD OF THE SUBJECT
      * DO NOT USE SYNONYMS THAT DIRECTLY RELATE TO THE OPERATIVE WORD OF THE SUBJECT
      Subjects like "What XXX Might Say" You may speak for XXX, but you can't describe XXX. Example if the subject is "What Dick Clark Might Say" you're allowed to say "I'm the host of American Bandstand and Pyramid"or any famous tagline that Dick Clark might say. On the same token, you couldn't use "I'm America's Oldest Teenager" because that's describing Dick Clark, even though it is technically something me might say.

    • @DarthTaz
      @DarthTaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm more partial for Dick Clark might say with either "For $25 000 Here is your first subject... GO" or "Thank you, Jack Clark. This is the $25 000 Pyramid"

    • @kevintablet743
      @kevintablet743 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Hammond two seconds though
      If “I’m America’s oldest teenager” is something Dick Clark would say, then if a judge buzzed you it may be a massive head wrecker
      More then likely that would result in a talk and possibly it going in your favour as a grey area clue
