Nick is a legend. Didn't know he played in all of these bands in addition to QOTSA, Kyuss and Mondo Generator. Learned quite a bit from this 🤘 Rock on!
The last thing you want to worry about when living in a perpetual bender is keeping your hair clean. It's easier to shave it off than to take care of it
I’ve though this many times, i look like nick and i can tell you when i’ve been on a bender of drugs n drink there is no way i can keep still enough to shave my head and trim up my goatee i look like hell till my withdrawal come down passes. I’ve no clue how nick manages to shave his head clean with everything he does. All i know is i can’t do it
@@jaybone23 obviously you don't know the torment that bald dudes feel when they have no hair on the top but just on the sides. That's an absolutely awful look/feeling and I imagine it warrants a clean head shave all the time thus to avoid it.
Nick is the next generations Lemme. He is what he is, he doesn’t need your approval. He doesn’t pander to find an audience. The people come to him, because he’s fucking rad being himself.
I have been a fan of Kyus and Qotsa since 2000 and Nick is and always be a badass wish he still did some things with them there missing the edge since he left
Oliveri was like the dangerous and unpredictable side of QOTSA... which IMO is precisely what's missing on Queen's latests albums, I don't think he would have agreed to do something like Villains. Ironically enough, being dangerous and unpredictable got him kicked out of the band.
Seen Nick with Mondo Generator in a small Club in Germany (Vortex Surfer /Siegen) great Athmosphere ,great Sound , great Night....THX to Nick and the Guys!
it's a shame Nick is no longer with QOTSA. They were a better band with him... they miss the "punch" that Nick gave them. But then you look at this video and wonder if he could keep up. Drugs sure took a toll on him. It's a shame. Really talented dude.
This is a the sounds of a man living all his dream, his life to the fullest. Who the fuck cares he didnt make that much money? He's chose his friends wrongly, live dangerously, embracing whatever will be coming, and he's fucking happy. This is quite inspiring I think.
Nick really brings that punch to QOTSA, but with the shit he gets in at his age, I can understand why Josh kicked him out. I mean, Josh has his fair share of crazy moments, but Nick reaaaaaally pushes it.
I didn't know about him until I heard SFTD. Seeing him in the video for No One Knows I knew he was fucking awesome. You think I ain't worth a dollar is legendary
Nick was such a vital part of Queens that it was never the same after he left. There was such a beautiful juxtaposition between him and Josh, and Mark too, it was like having 2 of your favorite bands rolled up into one. Those first 3 albums are all time classics and Nick was a huge reason why. Now it's more like Queens of the Hommes and that's fine...cool little hipster band that thinks they're better than you but man, it could've been so much more.
it would've ended up like every other band from the desert. Boring, bland and repetitive. Queens had a great thing going on in the beginning but just look at nick. he has been the same since he was 15. Nick has to mention the fact that he was in qotsa for people to notice him. Theyre better off wothout him, Josh grew up and Nick didn't.
@@_KingOfCalifornia I can appreciate that perspective and you might be right. I tend to believe that Nick complemented Josh and vice versa and I really would've liked to see what might've been. It's a useless endeavor to wonder such things but for me personally those first 3 albums are incredible and stack up next to the best rock and roll records of all time. Again, this is just for my money, Queens haven't hit that watermark since. Glad to hear from a fellow Queens fan!
@@_KingOfCalifornia I disagree. They were evolving and growing as a band even within the first three albums. Do you really think Songs for the deaf sounds anything like the first album?
@@peteradams136 it certainly has some awesome moments and any album that features The Reverend Billy G will always get a thumbs up from. For me though, it didn't quite live up to the first 3 but looking back, I was probably looking for reasons to be critical with the absence of Nick.
I LOVE Oliveri but he's so damn hard to follow in terms of what he's currently doing musically. I didn't even realize Bloodclot was over and I've been waiting for years for him and Wino to record the Royal Deamons project.
The komodo dragon kills with just a little bite. The potent bacteria in its saliva infects the wound very quickly, and the komodo only needs to follow the prey and wait for it to die. So Nick is being compared to a toxic and dangerous animal. It's a fitting comparison.
Why do you get to judge what should or shouldn't be? Nick is the soul of anything he does because his presence looms so fuckin large, and he really means it EVERY TIME.
i too would b feeling like crap seeing a successful band i was in go without me... i feel bad for Nick, but we don't know the story as living it or being there....i also feel Castillo should b in Qotsa...shit happens...look at John Sykes story with Whitesnake....the rock n roll road is full of them...even some of us...
I have to say that it is sad, in a way. He is the reason I'm an enormous fan of QOTSA. Because he stood out, and made me love them. He's an integral part for me personally. I mean, for me that poise and conviction. fucking impeccable passion with bass . I mean come on. sexiest thing ever. Raw, fucking conviction thru passion, talent and determination. Cold glare as he fucking crushed bass lines while screaming precision. I was however; disappointed to see this vid at the end. But I'll never pass judgement upon these guys that do what most of us only dream of doing. I gotta say to all you artists, thank you, thank you. You define courage. I fucking love every one of you. Josh, damn you. fuckin' inspiration. Fuck you and your brilliant ass
Interesting how he says Geezer Butler is the greatest bass player of all time and joined a Black Sabbath tribute band yet Josh Homme has been quoted saying he's never really listened to Black Sabbath
Such a poorly produced album but that's what you get for having a pop producer. I can understand why it's so popular but as Rocker its disappointing seeing them going in that direction
You guys are tripping like clockwork is the best qotsa album the music is unforgettable and the production and lyrics only push it to be one of the best albums of the decade. I give you villains, but it’s not a “piece of shit” the songs are tight the production is a tad bland but they still come with an amazing fierceness and punchy/swingy music that is not the best album but doesn’t merit a piece of shit rating imo.
Always rockin to his own beat and rollin with his musical moral compass fixated. QOTSA lost their anchor to the stoner vibe and their Lemmy - TUDE when N.O. was pushed away. I get that it was based on Nick's periodic bad behavior. He did some immoral deeds but that was just Nick being Nick right from the start.... until.... The glittering prizes and endless compromises shattered the illusion of integrity.
I'm sure Josh is very lucky, but he also knows how to write a good pop tune.

Killer bass player. Can't imagine anyone else playing those songs the way Nick did.
@The Ninth Heart Qotsa and Mondo songs man!

Well said. I have always said QOTSA are nowhere near as good as they use to be with Nick or even Joey.
Villains is one of their best albums though
Well unpredictable and dangerous in style is fine but he was actually seriously “dangerous”...not cool at that point
I couldn't disagree more but to each their own, dude!
yeah, I read he was almost impossible to tour with after awhile.
0:55 That version of Tension Head is fucking phenomenal.
I know right? it sounds huge, unlike the last 2 albums that sound small and weak ..
It's 13th Floor by Mondo Generator the original version. I agree, it's more low end and the bass slaps!
I❤U, Nick Oliveri!
