Fun Fact: Peter Wellar could fit head phones under the helmet, so during the famous drug den shoot out scene, Peter Wellar was listening to Peter Gabriel’s Red Rain while they filmed
This sounds suspicious.. maybe between takes he listened, but shooting blanks is dangerous and requires your complete attention, he also needed to hear instructions in a helmet and makeup that was already impairing his hearing and vision.
Fun Fact: the uncut version of Robocop was first released on laserdisc by Criterion. It was scheduled to be released in 1995 but was delayed for over a year and was finally released in late 1996-97. As a teen I saw Robocop opening weekend. It was mind blowing. Many thought the original TV ads looked stupid and goofy, then it got great reviews and word of mouth to become a hit that played all summer. The satire felt more like a terrifying warning about corporations running everything. Thanks for the video Tony.
I could talk about this flick for DAYS. The blood effect on Clarence at the end was really good actually. Arterial bleeds look a lot like that, minus the initial dumping of about 2 gallons in the first spurt. But the pumping effect as he goes down is great to this day.
I've watched this movie so many times, and I didn't even realize that the mayor keeping hostages while eating a candy bar was a reference to Dan White killing George Moscone and Harvey Milk.
I should point out, when Murphy does the gun spin trick for lewis, as a responsible gun owner he does it unloaded for safety and when he is done you can see him reload his weapon and holster it When he is in Robocop form I bet his gun has a trigger or maybe a 1911 style grip safety(more likely) to keep the gun from going off
Well typically the gun twirl is done with single action revolvers meaning if you don’t cock the hammer back it can’t be fired same thing with the 1911. The auto-9 is not single action only and has no grip safety however it may have a higher trigger pull plus with Robocop it could be machine precision that allows him to do it but while I by no means recommend anyone do it with a loaded gun especially without safety on and decocked hammer I have done it with a beretta (not loaded) without pulling the trigger by accident. The auto-9 is a modified beretta 93r. All that being said it is a nice touch that Murphy unloaded his gun before doing it. And a nice catch on your part. I never noticed that before
@@drmott666 Yeah as kid who grew up with guns and hunting, you get used to handling guns safely and watching closely what someone else is doing with a gun and there is a strange routine you get into. The Auto 9 is a Beretta 93R-Raffika burst fire machine pistol. The slide is replaced by a longer but heavier brigadier slide with a tall competition style iron sights. Threaded to the barrel is a ribbed casket shaped compensator with considerable barrel extension ending in six ports, three left and right of the top of the front post sight and top rib between the compensator front sight and the slide front sight. Nah they didn't transfer Murphy to that district because he was a good cop, but because he was an arrogant one who wouldn't wait for backup. I think they do a good job of showing how he thinks he's a big fish in a little pond. He's cocky, and that's why he was selected to be transferred to a district that gets a lot of cop fatalities. But yes, he was transferred as part of an attempt to rush the process of finding a donor body. I love that the movie never actually explains any of this. Today, there would be lengthy, dialogue heavy scenes, explaining to the audience exactly what was up.
Thats a VERY GOOD Robocop figure/statue, you have displayed, is it the 18" Enter bay version, or perhaps the other Company that comes with the hexagonal plynth
Hot take anne lewis is a great character because she makes some serious mistakes like decidint to go into the factory and not wait for backup or spitting up from her partner. and while the story is really about murphy rgaining his humanity lewis is part of that bridge to help him go from cyborg to human.
It's hard to get people I new york and LA to leave both cities for a dumb podcast! I've been meaning to hang out with him though. Just need an excuse to go to NYC
I remember when i first seen it i 6 years old in 91 or 92 and it was my turn to choose the videos to rent for the family. I chose Eat and Run and Robocop. My sisters were not a fan of my choices. Also , i dont know snyone else who has even seen Eat snd Run 😂 Also, when i first seen That 70s show i was like WHY IS CLARENCE BODDICKER IN THIS?!
Ana de amas is bad ass in no time to die, was basically a female James bond and I'm pretty sure everyone liked her, i would definitely watch her as a female james bond.. More than that captain marvel woman they wanted to make James bond.
Not only is this an awesome sci-fi action movie, its satire is seminal, prescient and razor-sharp. Anne Lewis is one of THE greatest female action characters of all-time. Possibly the apotheosis of how to do a strong female character right.
@Nicolas.Vincent my bad, I got robocop 1 and 2 mixed up in my head. But to answer ur question, robocop 2 apparently when I looked it up, but I thought it was in 1.
Dude, Robocop is fucking awesome and I still love it. Have it on all formats except UHD. (R rated VHS and DVD as with the Unrated Laserdisc and Blu-Ray) Should change that. XD
Every time I see a copy at goodwill or a pawn shop I buy it. Because well.. "I'd buy that for a dollar" sadly I only have 8 copies, I rarely see it 😂 (but plenty of copies of the remake)
actually technically that was his house. he probably paid for all that including the TV that's still there so it's not destruction of property it's just a guy having feelings in his old house
Take from someone who own all Three movies on VHS as a kid when they came out with a directors cut of the very first one I was like I gotta watch it and liked it a little more than the theatrical cut always a solid action and sci-fi movie in every sense of the word
I can't stand the term "strong female lead" it's so cringe and patronizing! I especially hate when the character has to constantly put men down and teach them a lesson. Why can't they work WITH men instead of above and against?

FYI the Robocop tv show regularly plays on Pluto tv, on the “sci-fi” channel
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe and Happy Holidays 😊
I love when he said can you fly Bobby
Hot take anne lewis is a great character because she makes some serious mistakes like decidint to go into the factory and not wait for backup or spitting up from her partner. and while the story is really about murphy rgaining his humanity lewis is part of that bridge to help him go from cyborg to human.
You should bring your friend Justin Whang on that would be hilarious.
Also , i dont know snyone else who has even seen Eat snd Run 😂
Also, when i first seen That 70s show i was like WHY IS CLARENCE BODDICKER IN THIS?!
Ana de amas is bad ass in no time to die, was basically a female James bond and I'm pretty sure everyone liked her, i would definitely watch her as a female james bond.. More than that captain marvel woman they wanted to make James bond.
Hope u do a video for Thanksgiving, i watched it the other day and loved it!
Not only is this an awesome sci-fi action movie, its satire is seminal, prescient and razor-sharp.
Anne Lewis is one of THE greatest female action characters of all-time. Possibly the apotheosis of how to do a strong female character right.
😐
Pam Grier was one of the first actresses to play tough badass characters in the early 1970s, she was believable and had charisma too.
That Titanic guy smashed a rare Are you afraid of the dark VHS btw
My favorite childhood movie
I had to order the fkn criterion edition on ebay in like 04 or something. God i love robocop
"Can you fly, Tony?"
The scene with him in the vat as a brain and eyes and the whole build up to the reveal was the best part
Which movie are you even talking about?
@Nicolas.Vincent my bad, I got robocop 1 and 2 mixed up in my head. But to answer ur question, robocop 2 apparently when I looked it up, but I thought it was in 1.
@@ZeeboklownHave a rewatch of the original Verhouven classic. It's one of the greatest films we'll ever see!
The sequel is awful, but hilarious.
Dude, Robocop is fucking awesome and I still love it. Have it on all formats except UHD. (R rated VHS and DVD as with the Unrated Laserdisc and Blu-Ray) Should change that. XD
a bunch of the cast show up in various seasons of 24 too
The ratel R movie i saw as a kid 7 years old which is Air Force One and enemy of the state and Titanic
TONYS NEVER SEEN SICARIO???? DUUUUUDE
I'll add it to the list!
@@HackTheMovies amazing film
Every time I see a copy at goodwill or a pawn shop I buy it. Because well.. "I'd buy that for a dollar" sadly I only have 8 copies, I rarely see it 😂 (but plenty of copies of the remake)
Awesome
actually technically that was his house. he probably paid for all that including the TV that's still there so it's not destruction of property it's just a guy having feelings in his old house
18:19 Name one modern example that does it good, Tony.
Go cry lil Incel 😭
Tony, are you gonna include that one time when Robocop helped Sting in WCW for the Worst Robocop Movies episode?
Kinda thought it was similar in premise to the anime Tobor the 8th man but still enjoyed it
classic just like tony
Robo-cop! Sounds like an awesome fucking movie.
My dad took me to see this when I was 4 lol love this movie
The Only Version Of 1987's Robocop That I Prefer Is The Unrated Director's Cut (103 Mins).
Take from someone who own all Three movies on VHS as a kid when they came out with a directors cut of the very first one I was like I gotta watch it and liked it a little more than the theatrical cut always a solid action and sci-fi movie in every sense of the word
Directors Cut was only released by Criterion Collection on Laserdisc and DVD, never VHS 🤷♂️
Miller was a former councilman not mayor
Hack the movies made my top 5 podcast on Spotify your ranked #4
Seems pretty low!
You forgot to mention the windshield during the shootout car chase scene.
"Mind if I . . . zip this up?"
I can't stand the term "strong female lead" it's so cringe and patronizing!
I especially hate when the character has to constantly put men down and teach them a lesson.
Why can't they work WITH men instead of above and against?
This wouldn't be just a coincidence in timing because of a CERTAIN awesome video game.....would it? 😉
