It's kinda awesome that you guys only got to the Abstract Daddy boss fight after the new update. The pulsating walls were just added back in after being taken out in a previous patch. You got the full, disgusting, horrifying experience on your first playthrough.
For your question at the end, there’s no official plan for a remake of SH1 but there is a much higher probability of it happening now that this remake was so successful. Generally speaking, SH2 is the most famous entry in the series and really set the tone for what people expect from it, so with this remake essentially acting as a jumpstart to bring life back to the franchise after such a long drought, it does make sense for them to go with the one that people probably wanted to revisit the most. But I do think we will see SH1 and maybe 3 remade in the next few years. 2 is a stand alone story while 3 is a direct sequel to 1. Generally speaking, you can absolutely figure out the story of 2 without playing 1, HOWEVER, 1 explains the nature of Silent Hill itself and that added context does help make sense of things. Just know that Silent Hill is a real place with real supernatural shit happening. Eddie, Angela, and Laura are all there with James but experiencing their own story that James just happens to cross paths with.
I imagine it would be pretty cool to have silent hill 2 spin offs where you play from the perspective of Eddie or Angela. Idk I haven’t finished the game yet
I'm hoping they remake the first and third game because those do explain more about the town and why it's the way it is. I guess after playing, you can look into the lore of the town. SH2 is a great way of showing how it affects ordinary people (or not so ordinary) outside of everything from the first and third games. Now, you could watch the movies which are based off the first and third games, but they aren't entirely the same as they did change quite a bit. But the overall theme and general story still applies.
