PLATO (Programmed Logic for Automatic Teaching Operations) was the first generalized computer-assisted instruction system. Starting in 1960, it ran on the University of Illinois' ILLIAC I computer. By the late 1970s, it supported several thousand graphics terminals distributed worldwide, running on nearly a dozen different networked mainframe computers. Many modern concepts in multi-user computing were originally developed on PLATO, including forums, message boards, online testing, e-mail, chat rooms, picture languages, instant messaging, remote screen sharing, and multiplayer video games.

I had a sensation that the ground had moved, which made me stumble a little bit, and that was accompanied by a very loud sound, like metal scraping metal. And that was it. Nobody died. FYI the "park" is Hyde Park. You can see the magnificent dome of the Royal Albert Hall (Last night of the Proms, Remembrance Service etc), the top the Albert Memorial across in the park - and in the bottom left is a bowling green (proper bowling!) next to the tennis centre. The "awful" climate is supposed to have a lot to do with it. Mild climate = no natural disasters, no droughts, no frozen seas etc - stable food production and population, isolation (since 1066) from invasion and upheaval across Europe. Island nation, seafaring people that produced explorers and navigators, all allowed technology to develop faster than many places. Lots of coal and iron, and canal system to move it all = the industrial revolution.

Most of European castles served a military purpose. Sure there was a local feudal lord of some kind owning/managing one or more castles, but the goal was to look over the land, collecting taxes, fight off revolting peasants or invading hordes. But you have to think of them as a kind of "OP administrators", who could keep his castle(s) only as long as they were loyal to the king/queen and actually did their job (sometimes they grew too strong and wanted to be king, but that's a story as long as European history)

I zoomed in at 6:30 and that ‘field’ is actually a bowls club. The grass is always immaculate and very very flat. The round wooden bowls have a weight built into one side which causes them to draw or swerve. How much it moves is where the skill lies.
It’s a bit similar to curling inasmuch as they try to get the bowls closest to the Jack to score points, but there’s no handle, no finger holes like your bowling balls have, and it’s not played on ice or down a lane. Confused? You’ll have to do a search I’m afraid! 😅

Oh dear. A castle was just a fortified stronghold. In a time when war and battles was common in England. Every lord and noble had one. The 4000 figure is just the ones that still remain today. Smaller castles were timber framed and didn’t last the centuries. The nearest castle to me all that remains is a shape in a farmers field, where the moat used to be. You can only make the shape out from aerial photos. On foots it’s a slight dip in the grass.

The UK is an abbreviation, Ryan. Think of the full title, and it'll make more sense: "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland," which is how it has been since the Irish Free State that was formed in 1922 (comprising the whole of the Island of Ireland besides the then counties of Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone - which together, formed the new country to be known as Northern Ireland from the same date), was ratified by the International Community as a Sovereign State that was governed as a republic that had now formally severed all links with the former Kingdom of Ireland and therefore also the successor United Kingdom, as established in 1800 and finally now dis-established in 1949. [Although the Irish Free State was governed as a republic from its 1922 creation, it formally remained a territory of the British Crown - even though it did not recognise that fact, until it was formally granted full independence in 1949.] The six counties that form Northern Ireland continue to recognise that same formality as we speak - even though they lost their independent political status in 1968 and again was governed as part of the UK - which did not establish the current devolved political administration until 1997. Thus the UK Government that sits within the Houses of Parliament at Westminster, London, provides full governance to England and is fully responsible for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland even though it has chosen to devolve some everyday powers to new tiers of government within each of the three countries that it set up in the closing years of the 20th Century. All three operate slightly different governmental models and have different powers devolved to each of them. Overall Budgets are fixed at Westminster, but all three enjoy limited spending powers aimed to better reflect local needs and political priorities.

You're not self-governing possessions of the Crown in the way that the Isle of Man or the Channel Isles are. And Britain's just part of a name - there's nothing imaginary about it... In an ideal world, I'd prefer if everybody that wants to be independent is independent, too! They complain about roundabouts in cars, that we drive on the wrong side of the road and have manual gearboxes. They complain that fast food isn't served in USA portions. Then their are the lies (which admittedly have been sorted out now) about healthcare. The USA wins on house size and amenities, restaurant chains, size of vehicles and wages. Except wages get eaten up quicker by the cost of living over in the USA.

My point is that I've heard the Brits boasts and insults a million times. American beer is piss, they say, but the best-selling beer in the UK is Budweiser, and most Americans can't even name a British beer (OK, Guinness is one). You really think a fast food hamburger or pizza is bigger in the U.S.? I thought a quarter-pounder and 12-inch pizza might be the same everywhere. Anyway, is breakfast anywhere in the world bigger than in England, which includes the American breakfast but also adds beans and tomatoes, yech? America has roundabouts too, but new ones that don't have traffic lights halfway 'round for pedestrians, then bikes, then busses, and finally for the poor bastard in a car, British intentions for roundabout efficiency was lost 50 years ago. You know, America invented the automatic transmission 75 years ago, and while America is moving on to self-driving cars, the Brits cling to the tractor transmission in their Mini Cooper (but only because it's cheaper). My favorite is that Brits are gobsmacked that the most advanced country in the world would actually wash a chicken egg after it's fallen out of a hen and rolled around in nest full of poop.

I don't think we're the best country in the world but we have a beautiful country .and probably more history then any other country so much interest from music .scientists. Discovery. What we see of America such a beautiful. Country and so much to see. What I know is that most people in the UK love America. You have your faults as nation. just as we have.🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸

Technically, the island of Great Britain as stated in the video is the name of the biggest island including bits of Scotland England and Wales, BUT while the "country" of Great Britain might be deemed to include all the offshore islands, the Isle of Wight and Anglesey are NOT part of Great Britain

The most common wild life in London are foxes. You can literally see foxes all over the place even in the central areas of London.

the wild life thing isn't talked about much because though we do have many lovely animals almost everything is around somewhere else and we dont have anything like huge bears or wild cats. which is also why the taught of a bear or wild cat is ridiculous and think those animals in movies feel more fantastical but in documentary's feel extra un-nerving since i have no idea what i would do knowing i am potentially near one in a wild area

We do have one poisonous snake - the added but they are not common and are very shy and would rather hide than attack. Probably our most dangerous animal is the hedgehog which is like a porcxuoine but is he size of a fat rat, it does not throw its spines but it hurts if you tread on one in stockinged feet😁 Most of our police don't have guns and guns are very difficult to own in the uK so there are very few shootings, our only school mass shooting was over 30 years ago and gun laws were tightened even more after that.

You have forgotten that all this is from a country the size of Alabama , ok now Alabama has a population of 15m were as the UK is 67m !
For a very true story think of a wet day and the family wanted to go for a walk but can't , then the master of the house says " I know lets have a game of tennis ( remembering that it's the original tennis we are talking about ) " but everyone " crys but it's raining " so he says " never mind clear all the furniture out of the HALL ( it's a clue ) and fit up the net " and so everyone had a great time . At the end someone asks what shall we call this game ? " after the house said someone " .
    Hence Badminton was invented. !

Stop adding Ireland as part of the UK. Only a small part of Ireland- 6 counties out of 32 is part of the UK. Most of Ireland is an independent sovereign country in its own right.
