Rebecca's horrifying tale of her struggle to find a correct diagnosis and start a treatment regimen drive home the importance of physician education and public awareness. Even though pemphigus and pemphigoid are known as skin diseases, many patients have lesions in their mouth making dentists a crucial part of the diagnostic process. She encourages UM's dental students to learn more about the diseases and work closely with patients on individual treatment and recovery. Great job Rebecca!

Thank you for posting this. It helps one of the many maladies come to life, and will hopefully help the rest of us in diagnosing the next case. Thank you, Rebecca.

I am so sorry for what you have gone through. My pemphigus is no where near what you have gone though--and I thought it was horrible! I only went to 3 Doctors who didn't know what it was. Not one of them said they didn't know, but wanted to send me to a Dermatologist--mine is blisters on my arms, legs, face, etc.--and the soonest I could get in was 4 months. When I was in the clinic seeing yet another Dr. I ran into my Primary Dr. Why didn't I go there first? 6 months wait is why. Anyway way, whe had me sit down, she asked a few questions, left the room and came back it 20 minutes and told me she had an appointment for me at UNM Dermatology at 8:00am the next day--not 8:01am but 8:00am I guess I didn't mention, this was one week before Christmas. [Of course there is way more to this story, but takes up too much space.] Anyway, I was there at 8:00 and have been going back since. My recovery isn't, but you have given me hope I can get a little better. Thank you for sharing and being so honest. I have one of those husbands who has been with me trough hell, and still keeps hanging on. We are blessed. Thank you again.

Dear Rebecca, during watching your film I did cry. You are so strong and a wonderful woman. I pray for you from bottom of my heart. you will get heal. Believe me. you must purify your faith and soul, just depend on your self (internal God). Come out from the shadow of this stupid medical system. with your strong soul you can modulate and control your immune system. Believe me.Do not be dependent on this fatal medical market. if you believe in goodness, you will relief. god bless you. waheed .

As I recall a pemphigus diagnosis may involve cellular cement stuff. Have you investigated incompatibility blood type and rh factors between you and husband, consulted a clinical ecologist and evaluated the unique work environment with chemicals and gases, or considered a detailed microbial inventory and assessment.
