18:08 That right there is the Kendall Katwalk. The most expensive trail ever built in the United States. 600 feet built at a cost of $42,000 per foot adjusted for inflation. I'm so happy you went back and did this section again. It's nice to see you just hiking to see things rather then hiking to crush miles. I think this is one of your best videos ever. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Congratulations on your through hike looking forward to watching you doing the bits you missed and your future hikes it's like a drug you need to do it until you can't 😊👍
That is an amazing part of the PCT. I love your videos, we are on like day 20 so far and binging them :) I like the fact that you are not just a talking head, the way you narrate really gives me a good idea of the area you are in and how you feel. I started doing river crossin on my drives but then realized I need to be different so I started "Cattle Guard Crossin" You are amazing, I would be really happy if you did the Continental Divide Trail next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😃
This seems like a great way to wind down after finishing the trail. I'm glad you were able to see that portion of the trail in all it's glory! Looking forward to your next stop.💛🌻
Possibly when you are so focused on the goal of each day so intently it doesn’t allow the freedom do process emotions but when you are there just being in your hike today experiencing just being present things have more room to bubble up.
When I first saw that you were redoing a section you'd already done, I wondered why, when you had skipped sections that you need to fill in. Then I saw what you missed from the fog and I understood. That is GLORIOUS for sure!
Some iconic sections of trail just have to be experienced in good weather. So glad you made the call to redo the Katwalk. There are beautiful views of Mt Rainier on the southbound return to Snoqualmie too!
So glad you’re checking out the areas you didn’t get to see due to weather or other factors. I need to do the same! Also, I agree, that scenery is simply magnificent! I think you’re pretty magnificent too!
I think you are weening yourself off the trail slowly. I would need to do the same thing. After a summer of firefighting I had a hard time coming back to the town life and I lived in a small town! After 2 days I needed to get back into the woods for sure. So fun following you.
Glad you got to experience Kendall Katwalk. It's one of my favorite hikes. There is a sign, as you're going northbound for stockers to dismount and walk their horses across. That to me, is the start of Kendall Katwalk, and it extends all through the cliff face. Different hikers will have their own iterpretations.
My hikes definitely don’t compare to yours in scale but I was also way more emotional after the fact. I wonder if our bodies are in preservation mode while we are pushing it so hard and once it feels like it can relax some we are allowed the opportunity to feel all the feelings.
Views certainly weren’t man made & not a coincidence . I love living in the PNW & so so happy I found your blog. A lot of food for thought. And… I can’f tell you how many times I’ve said “River crossin”! Thanks for new memories!!! Much love.
Stunning scenery! Much more than hiking...and not for the height conscious! This was clearly well worth the revisit!!! Thanks so much. Peace, strength and health to you until the next time!!! A terrific, SECOND ENCORE!
I’ve hiked many many trails along the I-90 corridor, but never hiked the Kendall Katwalk. After watching your video, I’m looking forward to it on my PCT thru hike next year! Thank you for sharing.
Yay 🎉 You returned to the Katwalk and got to see everything fogged over your first time through. It's really beautiful, even magnificent! Yes, there is lots of analysis after fires, sometimes it's legal forensic analysis and other times it's a BAER team checking on the effects on vegetation, soil, and watershed. But there's always a check of all burned areas to determine if the fire is really out, what any trail or road conditions might have changed, whether visitors are exposed to dangerous conditions such as falling snags. Once all that is addressed, then there will be a decision on whether to reopen or wait for crews to remediate the area, or wait for nature to take it's course, it whatever action is best for the area. Some of these fires are so big that it takes months to do the analysis and create the action plan. And then there's always the possibility that the fire will reignite, even under the winter snow, and cause more issues that need to be addressed. It's all about maintaining safety.
Roadrunner, a suggestion….why don’t you go back to Kennedy Meadows North and go south through the Sierra’s again. Everyone who has done North and South says it’s a completely different experience. That way you can stay on the trail for 3 more weeks. Me and your followers would love to see the views without the snow. Best of luck in whatever you do.
My daughter is NOBO. Her hike is to see everything on way. She spent week in Yosemite where summited Half Dome and explored the Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne. Doing so her goal is to finish California this year. Finish Oregon and Washington next year.
The reason the Katealk gets a special name/status is because of the difficulty in building the trail in that section. They had to blast a lot of rock to put in the trail.
What a remarkable trail. The Trail Blazers that discovered and surveyed and built that almost vertical shelf is wonderful. Thanx for retaking this section of the trail👍🏼
You never mentioned how your poop emergency worked out. Unfortunately I could relate to this. It seems like you are always fine when there are places to go but the minute you enter a steep rock canyon or are on a cliff your body says "it's time to go NOW". I can't wait to hike the PCT SOBO in two years. The views and landscape are just amazing - especially compared to the southern PCT which is where I live.
Good morning, Juliane. Wow! There aren't enough or adequate words to describe how beautiful the views were on this section. They were absolutely awesome. The surrounding forest was quite neat also. But it looked like a narrow path. Not sure I would have liked that. Guess that's why they callt a catwalk. I'm glad you went back and hiked it again when the weather was better and you could actually see what was around you. Looking forward to where you stop next on your road trip. Take care. Stay safe. See you next time.
Yay!! Oh, it makes me so happy that you got to do this part on a beautiful day. I am amazed how we get little pick-me-ups when we need them the most. I hope whatever is responsible for those kindnesses is the same thing that creates the mountains.
Stehekin is my Happy Place and I have a very deep connection there...I do recommend going back there someday but, in my opinion, that section of the PCT is boring. I would hike Park Creek Pass or Rainbow, McAlester Lake over to otherside or do the loop. NOCA has so much more to offer than that section of the PCT. Sorry in rained on you...that wasn't super typical weather in August but I don't know what is typical anymore when it comes to weather🤷♀️
Yay!! You got to see WA, I’m so glad you took us along. I love my state… minus the summer fires and weather changes of course but the landscape is spectacular! Happy to see you again.
Roadrunner, reach out to your hiking friends, find out where they are and meet up with them. No, it will not be the surprise you were hoping for but it sounds like it will do you heart a world of good to see them.
Your aching longing for your Tramily has a name “saudade” - a Portuguese word, crucial to the musical forms of Fado and Bossa Nova. “Chega de Saudade” is a classic bossa nova song.
I’m a private pilot and occasional backpacker. Seeing the glory of God’s creation is what motivates to do both. I understand all of our uncertainty we all have toward God. If we were ants, and all we could see was a very small portion of a human’s foot as it crushed us, does the human really exist to an ant? God is so big, that we just can’t wrap our minds around Him. But it is a true joy to see His works.
I enjoyed following your PCT hike videos over the months. Great that you could go back and hike such a scenic section of the trail. I wondered if you attempted to contact Boss Bae and Birdcall via Garmin to find out where they were. Surprises are fun but hard to pull off in the wilderness.
I don't know how much of a time lag there is between when these videos are posted and filmed. So if you are still in WA and still have a little trail fever here is my suggestion especially since fires prevented you and now it's reopen. Drive to Chelan, look up fields point that's where you can park your car. And get on the Ferry to Stehekin. It's open again. So you can see any hikers drifting into town, eat at the lodge and the bakery, camp at several possible places. I. Town or Backcountry. But stock up on food at the Safeway in Chelan as groceries are hard to come by in Stehekin.
Okay, that was some wrong timing! I was eating my breakfast and had just put a spoon full of cold soak oats and blueberries in my mouth and you started talking about privy's and said, "my bodies like, hey let's go number two." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Definitely curious about the “pre post” post trail condition, mind, body etc. Perhaps you could address this question? If there were no “real world” to go back to would you continue hiking indefinitely? Thanks (I’ve watched your entire PCT videos, thank you).
"How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains."(John Muir). We have the capability to destroy wilderness, but we cannot create it. The dilemma of trying to describe what you witnessed belongs to everyone. Artists and poets come closer than we ordinary mortals can. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
1hr ago they uploaded a video…they are close to Steven’s Pass and out of food bc they travelled in a storm and every thing got soaked and it was hard going…hope you catch them They are at the KOA in Steven’s Pass now 😊
Goooood morningggggg. Stop sign crossssin. Daily vlogs from the concrete trails and mechanical rivers. Keep it coming. Lets go hunt for some Thru hikers and do some trail magics.

I have to say, I agree with you 1000% on this country. I’ve been out there and it took my breath away and words are not adequate. Amazing!!!!!

Your body is adjusting . Ok to be emotional. Glad you are able to hike and wind down from your big hike. No worries or pressure. Just enjoy!

The views were spectacular and well worth going back for. That trail was a little scary and narrow. 😊
Katwalk is the short 0.2 miles section with east exposure and 1500’ drop off. I was dynamited to widen it.
Beautiful video. Love your commentary...more more...
When I first saw that you were redoing a section you'd already done, I wondered why, when you had skipped sections that you need to fill in. Then I saw what you missed from the fog and I understood. That is GLORIOUS for sure!
What amazing views! Bathroom issues on trail is no joke. 😳😂
Beautiful views 😊

Wow! The views were incredible! I’m really bummed that you weren’t able to see Bossbae and Birdcall. Take care. Happy trails! 🥾 🥾
Wow!! That is so beautiful!!! You certainly wouldn't want to lose your balance on the cliff walk!

Smart move to re hike parts of trail while you are there and have the time!
Thank you for expressing the wonder of our world. Wish more could see this wonder, if only thru your eyes. We all believe!
What a remarkable trail. The Trail Blazers that discovered and surveyed and built that almost vertical shelf is wonderful.
Thanx for retaking this section of the trail👍🏼

Omg...beautiful views.... Damn that had to be scary at times
That is my kind of hike! Sheer cliffs, a little stressful - but the VIEWS!!! ❤🙏🏻
I think the 2 minute walk (without you talking) was great. Sometimes it’s the view and the hike that speaks volumes!
Glad you got to hike that part of the trail again The sheer drop-offs are terrifying though!
Thank you for going back. It just beautiful Pat of the trail. Breath taking❤ Thanks for sharing

really enjoying these after trail videos :)
Love the Katwalk. Great video thanks
Lot of exposure on that trail. I use to hike solo. No more. One misplaced step on loose rock and ☠️

😂😂😂. It always happens when you don’t have a potty near by.
The Katwalk is the steep scary bit. Just a few hundred feet.

Sad you didn’t catch up with B n B. Great, beautiful views on your hike. Sometimes the trail gets scary narrow. Thanks for bringing us along.
Okay, that was some wrong timing! I was eating my breakfast and had just put a spoon full of cold soak oats and blueberries in my mouth and you started talking about privy's and said, "my bodies like, hey let's go number two." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did you get yourself some rain pants? Also, that two-minute walk...how wide is that trail? Thinking my fear of heights might kick in.
Definitely curious about the “pre post” post trail condition, mind, body etc.
Perhaps you could address this question? If there were no “real world” to go back to would you continue hiking indefinitely?
Thanks (I’ve watched your entire PCT videos, thank you).
