Hello, and thank you. I understand now why Rama Raya Prabhu was so strict with us chanting Harinam Sankirtan in NYC. This was years ago, around 2014. And it makes sense to me why i fell off the path, over and over again: I was chanting to please myself and others, not Krsna. I've recently begun watching His kirtans, and chanting japa at home. Taking it slow and steady, and doing it for the Lord's Will, and not mine. Hare Krsna 🙏
For me, both are required... ie some musical understanding, esp to engage the audience. The right tune, the change up of tunes that suits your style of kirtan, sing tunes that you like... but all in the mood ultimately to please krishna. It's about the serious endeavour in the heart, in the consciousness, to serve and par the Lord. Aindra prabhu has taught us to develop purity in our chanting. Thank you for this upload!

Srila Prabhupada is our acarya. Srila Prabhupada was focused on the mahamantra and made it very easy for everyone to enter into the kirtan by not changing the melody too often. Not everyone is a musician and can catch many different variations within a kirtan. In my opinion, one part of the melody should be chanted at least four times , 8 times call and response, before switching to another part of the melody. Otherwise, what happens is people become distracted by the changing melodies if it is being done after just one or two mantras. We want to focus on the Holy Name itself, not on constantly changing melody. With all due respects to Aindra Prabhu who I love dearly. told him the same thing to his face. We have Prabhupada's example to follow
