    hi! I love your videos :) I'm learning a lot with you! I'd like to ask you something as I am preparing myself for the FCE (self study) but I can't quite get if we need to state our opinion in the intro (you said we have to) and in the conclusion or only in the conclusion (I have found info about both). I found in the Cambridge website that it's in both parts but then in their examples it is not showed... It says: "Introduce the topic using a general statement and give your opinion. Say whether you agree or disagree with the statement." and "Summarise your ideas and repeat your opinion using different words to provide a strong conclusion". I'm basically writing it in both, but wanted to make sure this is ok! I'm assuming it is not essential, but recommended? thanks!

    • @teacherphill
      @teacherphill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rebeca, you don't have to give your opinion in the intro, but definitely in the conclusion. In the introduction, you must create context, introduce the topic and pique the reader's interest. Giving your opinion, as I do in the video, is one way to achieve the last point, but you might do that differently. In the conclusion, however, your opinion is mandatory.

      @@teacherphill thanks a bunch ! I'll do it in the conclusion only from now on :)

      In the video, I explain how to write an essay with the basic principles, but I don't write the full essay for this task.

    If I want to correct a mistake later on, how will I remove the mistake without starting over or having a messy phrase on the sidelines with an arrow?

    • @teacherphill
      @teacherphill  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cross it out and correct it. Don't write in the margins. Make a plan before you start writing so you minimize the risk.

    Hi! I have a question. As we know essays should be formal. But what about using first person or second person/people in an essay? Is it too informal for an essay or it’s actually allowed?
    Let’s say in a Task like “There are more reasons to learn a language than to pass a test. Do you agree?” If I write an intro like that: “The world around us is vast and multicultural, and languages are intrinsically part of it. I truly wish to become a polyglot one day, for I believe languages bring countless benefits in various areas of our lives”.
    Is ok to say “around us”, “our lives”, “I truly wish” or “I believe”?

    • @teacherphill
      @teacherphill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The part about yourself is quite personal and I would avoid it, but if it's directly connected to the essay question, it's OK.
      I would probably just leave that part out and say instead: ... languages are intrinsically part of it and bring countless benefits to various areas of our lives.

    • @teacherphill
      @teacherphill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Priscylla, thank you for your comment. I'm not quite sure what you mean. In the video, I talk about the introduction (part 1), the three topic paragraphs (part 2) as well as the conclusion (part 3). In total that's five paragraphs, which should cover everything in the task. Perhaps you could explain a little bit more what you mean or email me on info@teacherphill.com and I would be happy to clarify.
