Hey Jordan, Happy 2025! The desk looks GREAT!!! Thanks for doing this video and sharing your own journey in adjusting to working in a "new" environment. Exciting stuff 🤘🏻
That's an awesome story! I've never had studio monitors because of small space and budget, so I've basically always used headphones for mixing. Somehow I feel like I can mix better with them, than on speakers.
Wow changing your whole monitoring setup by putting them on stands instead of a desk they sat on for years is really brave... don't know if I would have gone for that unless I really had to!
My desk is an old dining table with a "vintage" home stereo/vinyl rack beside that holds the interface and preamps. Very much a bedroom build but at least my beadroom is large enough to have monitors on stands and even subwoofer at "right" place. :D I've measured the frequency response on my sweet spot and it seems pretty okay. Probably there's some reflection issues coming from the untreated room but that's all I can get and that's how I need to roll. :D
I built my own studio desk (badly) a few years ago from plans like you have, where I ultimately found that it wasn't practical due to its size and I didn't need the rack space due to selling all my outboard. I ended up getting a small office desk from Amazon instead which has served me well, but thinking that I'll eventually get a standing desk.
Have some very ns10ish Neumann monitors. Putting them close to the back wall did the same thing for me and it works well! I keep my interface at the same volume and i know that when i can feel the low end in my mixes, its good and will translate
Like I try now to mix with my ears instead of my eyes, and like u I try to have the minimum on my desk. The minimum we have around us, the more we can stay focused on our working.
They keep the monitors close to the wall to make sure all the audio arrives at the same time. If the speakers where further away you it would get a delay from the audio travelling to the back wall and than to your ears.
Interesting video ------ But you might consider trying for monitors / acoustics that will provide a flat frequency response so you can tell what your songs really sound like. (The fact that you like NS10's puts your qualifications in doubt).
Are you unaware that many pros have mixed many hits on NS10s for decades? If one dials in a mix on NS10s, the mix will translate pretty much everywhere. Jordan also uses headphones to check the extreme lows and highs, and he's been doing this for a long time.

I ended up building my mixing desk. $3000 to buy it and $500 in material to build it and I'm glad I did.
Yeah. Those prices are out of control.
I also have a mini desk, and it really fixes so many reflections
I love minimalist stuff man, this looks neat.
Bro screw the hate ! I have a very similar small setup and love it !
When you started talking about wasted space i immediately started looking for a new outboard compressor. Why am i like this?

I have the RAB audio desk and it’s perfectly fine and small. Works the same as your desk now

0:09 Your Yamaha P2500 channels are mismatched 😬
I downsized my desk a few months ago and have never been happier.
Great idea Jordan, nice setup! Btw your room could use some decoration 😃👌🏼
nice inspiration, thx

What happened to your CLAs?
THE SOUND OF HITS!
Looks like they’re in the video no?
Pretty sure he had some kind of weird noise coming from one of them. I'm in PPS and I think he might of mentioned it at some point there,

Great info!
That bright blue Ethernet cable tho 😂
I know, haha. I found a black one shortly after this video was filmed. Much better now
I would love a desk like this! But I use 2 monitor screens and I’m not sure I’d have enough space for the speakers
0:13 lol god damnit Roelof
JORDAN pick up that guitar pick

What amp do you use for ns10s? Is this Yamaha p2500s?
His are active. When I went to Florida to record with him for his masterclass, he said he recommended those. Roelof told me the same thing also.
@@JulesOYou mean the CLAs?
In this video, there’s a Yamaha logo on them, those are passive.
@@josuastangl7140 I did not know that! My bad. Guess he was referring to the avatone CLA10s then.
What made you go back to Yamaha instead of Avantones?
the woofer in one of the CLA's kept cutting out. I got a replacement woofer but haven't put it in yet.
Smaller desk ftw
Looks like mine. Less is more.
A CENTER FOR ANTS?!?!
You aren’t supposed to block the electrical panel 😂 that’s again code
Are you okay? Like foreal foreal
Rolof Zoolander
