The Steelers were done at this point as this loss proves 38-10. Love the Steelers super 1970's but this 1983 Raider team was a doomsday bomb waiting to go off. The way this Raider team dismantled the Redskins Superbowl 18, 1/22/1984 this Raider team is one of the best I've ever seen. 💪💪💪💪

Keep in mind that the Steelers made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game the next year. Of course they got blown out by my Dolphins, and the QB they could have acquired in the '83 Draft.

Each year is different, with different talents and rules. So ordinarily, your comment might be debunked. But when watching this season, and playoffs, knowing the talent on each team.....these Raiders have to be acknowledged. That Lester Hayes Pick 6 showed how great this defense was., and changed this game. A great all time team. And while Plunkett was never known as a great QB, there's no way you should keep him out of the HOF if you put Eli Manning in. Just an aside lol.

I said ALL year in 83... The Raiders were a Powerful and Talented Team! The Best Team of 83.. I lived in the D.C. area from 75 to 06.. Watched that 83 Raiders at Redskins Classic regular season game in D.C.. I said then after that Redskins win... No Marcus Allen.. losing Cliff Branch to injury during the game after his 99 yard TD catch.. of course the Raiders hadn't acquired Mike Haynes yet.. that second half of that Season was ALL Raiders!! These 2 Playoffs blowouts.. i knew they'd win the Super Bowl over Washington! What a Team!!

Ted Hendricks #83 of the Raiders played 15 seasons from 1969-83
At the end of the 1979 season a vote among Raider coaches showed that all of them had voted to release Hendricks at season's end.
However, Al Davis insisted on keeping him.
1980 was an incredible year for Hendricks, an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection. The Raiders won the Super Bowl, and Hendricks had a team-leading 9 sacks plus 3 interceptions, 3 blocked kicks and a safety. He also had been appointed the Raiders' defensive captain that year.
Hendricks was at his best over nine seasons with the Raiders from 1975-83. The Raiders gave him the freedom to roam the line, blitz on impulse, read the play and react. Nobody could key on him. Hendricks could disrupt the other team's offense like few others.
    Career Accomplishments
    Baltimore Colts (1969-1973)
    Green Bay Packers (1974)
    Oakland Raiders (1975-1983)
    8x Pro Bowl selection
    4x All Pro selection
    4x Super Bowl champion
    25 career blocked kicks
    26 interceptions
Never missed a game (215 games played)
Pro Football Hall of Fame selection

Has any RB in NFL History ever have 3 games like Marcus Allen had in 1983 postseason?? 121- Pittsburgh,154 Seattle and 191 against Washington and 2TDs to win Super Bowl MVP. Plus reception yardage. Does this lopsided win make up for the 1972 Imacculate Reception and losing to the Steelers in 1974-75 AFC Title games. I’m not sure but as a Raiders fan it was incredibly beautiful and enjoyable!! Yes I know Raiders beat the Steelers in 1973 and 76 but this game for me was without a doubt the one zI treasured the most!!! And the Raiders haven’t won a Super Bowl in 40 years. Incredible.

The game was blacked out in Los Angeles because the Raiders didn't sell all of their playoff tickets by December 29, 1983--the day a sellout was needed to lift the blackout (it was an NFL rule then). But now you can see this game on You Tube! That also was Terry Bradshaw's last game, but I don't think he played in it. Franco Harris, the MVP of Super Bowl IX, also played his final game for the Steelers--he would play for Seattle (yes, Franco was with the Seahawks) in 1984--but only made it to the first half of that season.

As a Redskins fan, I knew the only (and I mean the ONLY) team in the AFC that could defeat the 'Skins were the Raiders and I needed them to lose. It didn't happen because the Steelers couldn't get anything going and when the Raiders started chunking them up yardage wise, there was no way the Steelers were going to stop them. So, the Raiders did exactly what I expected them to. Win the AFC, and defeat the Redskins in dominant fashion.

Although I was never a big Raider fan, but I always enjoyed the games they had with the Steelers. Two teams deemed dirty by their peers. Winning was secondary in the regular season. It was who could get away with the most cheap shots, and I loved George Atkinson and still do. Enberg and Olsen were a great announcing team. nbc messed up when they moved Merlin, although Charlie Jones was great too. Ironically, Bill Walsh was a complete flop and did not last long.

He was wrong about Stallworth but right about everything else. Bradshaw's elbow ( his last game was the final game of the season against the Jets in their final game at Shea Stadium) and age caught up with the Steelers. As a Steelers fan the fact was the Raiders were by far the better team from top to bottom. Ironically, until Big Ben in 2004, neither team drafted a franchise quarterback ( Rich Gannon was a free agent and certainly not a franchise quarterback).

Here's the argument which Raiders team is bettrer 76 or 83? I've had a persoanl feeling for 83 I was living in N.Cali when I was 12 and watch the Raiders kill the Redskins in the SB.....but started liking the Raiders in 1980 and fell head over heels in 83. I'd put this 83 team against any great NFL team. I'd say lacking was a second reciever to Branch...but loaded all over the place with either pro bowlers (83) or hall of famers. AL Davis, Tom Flores, Allen, Branch, Haynes, Long, Hendricks, Guy (hall of famers); Christensen, Martin, Hayes, Pruitt, McElroy, Lawrence (pro browlers 83); by the way Christensen and Hayes should be in the Hall. Oh Greg Townsend was on this team and he ended up being the Raiders all time sack leader. It's questionable if Plunkett should be in the HAll, but 2 SBs. Yep my opinion the greatest Raiders team, I understand the argument for 76 also.

If the Raiders ended the Steelers dynasty after this game, then why were the Steelers in the playoffs again the next season, beat John Elway and the Broncos at Denver and made it BACK to the AFC championship game against the Dolphins in Miami? So exaggerated!

    • @shannonrhett3304
      @shannonrhett3304 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The '83 and '84 Steelers were only scarce remnants of the great '70s teams. They were no longer a dominant team, and they typically won by the formula that succeeded against Denver: ball control and limiting mistakes while playing opportunistic defense. They even had the Dolphins on the ropes at times in the AFC Championship game (14-10 at halftime), but they couldn't overcome several crucial turnovers and it cost them big time.

  • @d0nKsTaH
    @d0nKsTaH ปีที่แล้ว

Steamers got squashed like bugs in this game.
It was the end of an era of dominance.
They started 9-2 on the season with some close losses to Denver (10-14) and New England (23-28)...
But caved in fast with the turnover prone Stoudt.
Bradshaw, Blount, and a handful of others retired after the season.
Most of the 1983 draft choices were cut immediately after the season.
None of those guys were on the team a year later making the '83 draft the WORST draft in Pittsburgh history.
Yeah.. they should have got Dan Marino, Mark Clayton, Richard Dent, Anthony Carter, and Karl Mecklenburg...
ALL of those guys except Marino were late round picks by other teams.
*begins to build a time machine...
