That first story is damn near unintentional nuclear revenge. Not only did he destroy the company, he inadvertently ruined the life of his old boss in the process. Probably not a good idea to screw over your best and most knowledgeable employee.

Boss steal 30g bonus and sets you up to do the same again by funneling that cash to fund an project assistant? The boss got a mere fragment of what i would have done to him/them. As for grandpa thief, an IRS or equivalent would be there with the FBI to cuff him for fraud, embezzlement and probably 30 or more other things they would find. Also Mom would now be the head of the board,as a face with a huge paycheque with the best benefits package there is .
Story 1: A perfect Pro-Revenge executed with absolute precision! And I definitely agree that OP should have increased the fee after the hang up the day before. Story 2: OP is not the asshole. The company reneged on the bonus (verbal but should be honored) and then expected loyalty from the singular person who could do the job. Very stupid. I would say that OP missed a huge opportunity by not letting them stew for a month or two then accepting the call. A renegotiation of the bonus (in writing) then continuation of the work. Story 3: OP's mom should have been given a job immediately upon Dad's death. Grandpa needs to be sued for the gross fraud & embezzlement...after grandma divorces him.

They could also specify the need for it to be in writing since you were previously told that the bonus verbally promised them was dismissed with a "you should have gotten it in writing." They may not have been offered it, but it would put the spotlight on the sleazy manager. It would also allow them to have looked in the local job market with a better reputation. As a first job, I may not have thought of this it, but now, definitely.
2. Story: NTA the company got that intern to replace OP cheap, they knew that after they screwed OP over he will inevitable leave at some point and wanted him to stfu about the bonus he was promised OP just made sure not to get screwed over once again

They enabled test mode on all 1000 of them and after the show, they ship them in test mode into stores that had ordered them. The company I work for kept getting call after call for units that appeared to work fine but didn't heat. After three or four calls to fry master, someone realized what the hell was going on and told us to take them out of test mode. Definitely an egg on the face.
In the second story, OP should not feel guilty about any of it. He was able to build success from nothing so should the company have done - and they had a lot more resources. He had to start over from scratch. Their failures are their own.

I quit the job, after he suggested my workmate would lose her house and horses, if she had no job to pay for them...I stated in my resignation letter that I won't work for a company who use these dirty tactics. A year later I met for a coffee with my workmate who told me the IT Manager was on sick leave due to the stress of trying to do upper management's bidding against us..he was showing up to work with stress rashes all over and spent months out on sick leave... and rumor was he was looking for another job. well play stupid games, win stupid prizes
The first story reminds me of a service call I went out on years ago. A customer's machine was down and they didn't call us because they were competitors of the company I worked for back then. So for two weeks they worked with the machine builder that was out of state. Replaced the entire controller, reloaded the program and it still wouldn't run. They finally called us and I got the call. When I signed in the receptionist said that they were all waiting for me. I was lead in and the plant manager immediately went nuclear on me yelling and screaming. I said I just got there and the two previous weeks is not my fault. I said I need an electrician and an operator. With my computer still on my shoulder I got to the machine, they had their computer attached to it so I didn't even take mine out. I asked the operator and electrician what the problem was. So I then asked the operator to press a button to start it and then tell me what was supposed to happen. She pressed the button and said pointing at a pump that it should start but won't. I asked for the electrical prints from the electrician and traced it down to the controller output. Using their computer I located that output in the program and asked the operator to press the button again. I found one condition not true and followed it back a few steps to an input. I flipped through the prints to that input and saw multiple things connected in series to that input. I started looking one thing at a time and soon found a switch didn't have a closed contact. That switch? The one marked "Off / Run". They never turned the machine on, for two weeks. I flipped the switch and asked the operator to try starting the machine. It came up and started running. The plant went silent. I was asked to go back to the plant manager as he wanted to talk. He then asked me what I had done as I had just got there. My reply was "I just turned it on!". I was lead out of the plant. The total time between signing in and back out was 5 minutes. Oh yah they got billed our minimum billing of 4 hours.

story 2 op shoulda answered the call, and explained his trust towards them was lost when they promised a 30% bonus, and when he asked about it, they told him a lie about not recollecting it or how he should have gotten it in writing. after that he felt betrayed by the company, and decided to leave. even going as far as checking to look at the fine print and notice he himself didnt sign or have any formal writing stating he had to stay for the job. just to let the ex-boss understand the consequences of promising one thing and not following through just to i guess keep a few bucks. basically give him closure, the reason his company and whole life fell apart and whatnot went down the drain, it was all because he promised something, and instead of following through pretended like he never said it.
Many of these " revenge stories" are little more than half-baked BS/click-bait. If the posters had an ounce of decency, they would post an apology for wasting people's time. Too much to expect, it would seem, though.

Mother was a teacher for 35 years. She tells me that up here in good ol' Canada, both would be perfectly acceptable. Most dictionary sites online have both pronunciations too. Thanks for commenting!
