    The best thing about working with Hrothgar Stibbon is the freedom to design exactly what you want. I designed my own under-arm portfolio (not a padfolio, but a 17" traditional legal document holder with no internal pockets or dividers), lined with emerald green felt, with a single top zipper that extends one inch beyond the top corner on both sides. Made of stiff bridle leather, it will out-last me by a century. I believe the firm will accept custom orders for other types of leather (full grain, top grain, aniline, polished leather) that would be more flexible than my case and in colors other than brown and black - for an added charge. Custom work does cost more, but not much more - and it is well worth it.

    Seems like we have the same idea of the perfect bag. Almost the same as the moosebrand messenger but a little bit more simple looking. I wish I have one of these.

    Beautiful Briefcase will develop a gorgeous patina soon! congrats! I started collecting briefcases and not sure why I just love how they look Filson are great but the one I love the most are made in Colombia by Delfino have a few vintage ones and the craftmanship stitching hardware and leather is incredible and can be had on Ebay if you look and are patient on ebay for less than $100 they run about the same as Filson or Montana for $300 to 400 used but paid $70 for mine and the quality in my opinion is better Your Briefcase is just perfect I love it just checked his website! cheers from Salt Lake City!!!

    Pleasant video.
    I appreciate your explanation of the thought process of all the details.
    Was in New York earlier this month but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for.
    I imagine I’m a lot like you.
    I know exactly what I want.
    The logo in the lower back was a smart decision.
    Perhaps I’ll follow your advice and just have one custom made.

    • @joekkl
      @joekkl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there, Panerai. Thank you for your comment. The only way to get exactly what you need with the leather you want, I think custom made is the only way to go. After I have this briefcase made for me, I pretty much stop hunting for anymore leather briefcase and focus on using this one I love. Next year, I will be heading for many business travels domestic and overseas, I expect this one to follow me everywhere I go. It's great to know that I have an extremely high quality briefcase to travel with.
      I suggest you talk to a respectable leather craftsman and have one made specifically for you. The single, unique briefcase that follow you everywhere you go. None like yours and only yours alone. :)

      The briefcase 💼 leather had softened up a little bit, and it's been aging gracefully so far. I don't see tremendous amount of color change or patina yet. Looking forward to that as it ages though. Thanks!

    Love the detailed review and your thought process. Interesting observation you have for the shoulder strap attached at the back instead of the side. I find it frustrating when I try to open my bag and reach for my keys with the shoulder strap in the way. Maybe I'll consider getting a custom made similar to yours. Is there any significant stretch mark with the tension now coming from the back of the bag?

    • @joekkl

      J Ko Sure! I’ll probably start sketching a few ideas. It’s a long way before I can settle on one but I’m looking forward to getting a local craftsman’s opinion. :)
      I checked out Herz’s website after watching your review on Herz’s Pilot bag. And wow, their bags almost match what I’m looking for! The only hiccup is I’m just not a fan of the tuck lock clasps. But it’s definitely not a deal breaker if I’m rushing and need to open the bag.

    Sedgwick tannery. That's where the leather is from, I can tell from the names of the colours on his website. It's the good stuff, doesn't really get better than Sedgwick bridle for briefcases.
    The handle is expensive for a reason, if you watch how it's made, it takes forever and a day... This is a great bag, interested to see how it aged for you!

    • @joekkl
      @joekkl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. That's exactly why we choose Sedgwick tannery. It's one of the oldest bridle leather supplier in UK. Very happy with it. I will see how it ages!!

    • @seemoore
      @seemoore ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought it was Oak bark leather? In which case it must be Bakers in Devon because they are the only oak bark tannery left in England. I looked and it says JFJ Bakers in the description. It's superb leather.

      @SP-nx8qx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seemooreIt looks like English bridle to me, but you can never be certain until you see it in person :)
      I have stuff made from black English bridle that is practically indistinguishable from Shell Cordovan, at least from the flesh side.

    Why is this the best briefcase in the world

    • @joekkl
      @joekkl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it fits all my needs. Leather is from one of the best tannery in UK, customized in the exact way I want (size, compartment arrangement, hardwares, handle, strap position and every other details). I really think it's a steal at this price point for what you get.

    Thank you for your detailed video, especially with regards to the shoulder strap being placed on the back instead on the sides of the briefcase. I’m considering ordering from this company my first leather bag. Your briefcase looks great and elegant. How much did you pay for yours with all of your customizations to get an idea? From Florida, USA.

      I ordered my briefcase from Roth back i. 2018. The price of my custom briefcase was:
      Price £680 + £39 shipping to California.
      Every single customization is decided by me. Inside and out. Which makes it so unique and special. I hope you enjoy yours. I took a look at my email with Roth. We have 72 emails between us to nail down every single request of mine. Roth is a patient guy. I love the craftsmanship and attention to detail. It's amazing. This is truly an heirloom quality briefcase. Let me know how "your build" goes. Cheers!

    Would you recommend bags from this company, or the leather bags from Vermilyea Pelle?

    • @joekkl
      @joekkl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are at very different price point. Hrothgar Stibbon is around $1100-$1400 range (tax included and shipped) while Vermilyea is at half the price. If you seek fully custom made bag, Hrothgar is the way to go,. However, if you don't need that, Vermilyea it s a great choice. Good luck.
