I just broke into 800+ elo after being stuck at 700 for a long time. Love starting with the Fried Liver Attack as white lol but you CANNOT overcommit to it or else you will be severely punished
@@LuKiSCraftjust make a new account and press advanced and then you will be automatically be matched with like 1500 opponents, if you can beat them you will be high elo. Even if your not at there level you could probably learn something
I learned quite a bit from this. What I run into the most is instead of holding tension on the board the opponents are always trigger happy about trading pieces and it leaves us both with very few pieces to work with. That being said, seeing how you pin pieces giving yourself time to develop faster than the opponent was a huge help.
Trade if your piece is inactive, avoid trading if your piece is active. Golden rule: "If there is an opponent's piece on your side of the board, eliminate it".
Lol, that checkmate. I just had a 1000 player walk into that the other day. As a sub-1000 player myself, the best lesson I’ve had so far was one from Robert Ramirez on board vision. It’s a simple exercise but it has helped me so much. All of Anna’s tips in this video are also fantastic, not that a great player like her needs any validation from a scrub like me.

Such a informative and helpful video, you should do a lot more of these videos. Maybe even a survey of what your viewers ratings are mostly . Then do more videos at the more common ratings.
You're an incredible teacher! I watch tons of videos from big channels like gotham chess and you really do a better job of just keeping it simple and intuitive for lower less elo rating and not getting to into super complicated stuff

Instantly gave it a try, but noone gave me a chance to go for the bishop-rook mate ^^" But, after hearing it now so many times, it finally clicked, that just bringing out your pieces in a solid way is like 80% of the game at this rating. They will blunder eventually :D
Started playing chess today after seeing a video of you and your parents. 40 years ago when I was a little kid the game was explained to me, but didn't play it much back then. Probably about 10 times. I played 4 games against the computer and won 3 and played 1 draw. First won at level 250 rating, second won at 400 rating, third draw at 550 and fourth won at 1000. :-) Very curious now at which level my limit (barrier) is. Last game was the most fun. In the beginning I kinda messed up, but eventually I found a way to turn the game around. I lost the queen very fast, but so did the computer. It wasn´t against the clock. I am sure that would have been way more difficult. Took my time with each move. It's fun to see the difference in playing of your parents. Your dad plays also more noisy on the board. Your mom is more gentle with the placing the pieces and with hitting the clock. Your dad wins alot of time reaching for the clock. His arm movement is fast while your mom moves her arm in a relaxed movement.
I learned the basics when I was younger but I didn't understand the strategy. Now, at 54 I believe I have gained an advantage with your kind help. Thank you.

This was very helpful. My teens and I have started playing a lot of chess recently, and I quite enjoy it. However, I've never taken the time to study or research strategies whatsoever. I just wing it, and we've certainly learned by trial and error. This video gives me a framework for establishing a solid opening strategy.

I usually watch chess content here on YT and I love solving mate in N like problems against a bot I'm running on my computer. I'm currently thinking I should start playing for real but stockfish, which never makes human like mistakes, is just too hard for me and I may have to simply bite the bullet and start playing online. My finances are trash so I would love a solution where I can pay a one off fee and then play online for a while rather than using something like a subscription.

I think you should do the same thing with other rating groups :D This was a really clever and effective way to teach the elementary principles at heuristic level with a live example, rule of thumb in a practical demonstration that touches the main bases just to get the very basic framework in place, perfect for people who know the moves and 'get' chess and whom you artfully spared any mention of chess openings at outset. It want to see what comes next as we go higher to 1200, 1600 and beyond ._.

In the last game the h6 followed by g5 idea is pretty natural and often played if white has castled and played Bg5. So I would recommend to do it.

I don't care what anyone says. 400 to 600 has 1500 level players stuck in its revolving door. It's very difficult to advance at 8 points a game.
