R.I.P Chester. This song was my anthem when it came out. It still resonates with me even now. You should also do Breaking the Habit by them especially if neither of you have seen the music video for it(it’s animated if memory serves)
It was shot in my hometown Prague, Czech Republic. It's a super historic country and especially our capital city. If you like that stuff, be sure to visit (when covid allows...). It's beautiful here 😊 It makes me so proud my favorite band chose it two times actually for a music video.

Over time, they went more mainstream but never lost that aggressive, self-deprecating Metal/Hip Hop edge.

She was only discharging her frustration. The paint probably wouldn't look good. She loves art and had been suffering for it, the way she were painting, it was a way of discharge her frustration about everything, she loves art but only makes her suffer, so she is showing her frustration about it, what she most loves, it's the core of her pain, so she is discharging it, she's not trying to make art, she's trying "to let art know" how much pain she have being experiencing because of it.
Its her way of carrying on without harming someone, especially because she knows hoe that feels, so instead of discharging her frustration on somone, she did that.
And it's obvious, if the point was the painting, they would have shown us. So try to understand the message, and don't worry about something insignificant like the result of her painting.
I'm not being rude, what I believe most people would think it, I'm only saying that most times wer miss the big picture
