just when I thought I couldn’t love Roy Wood any more than i already do, he goes and sticks two recorders in his mouth at the same time. be still my heart .❤
When will Roy Wood be recognised as one of the greatest English songwriters this country as even produced alongside the likes of Ray Davis etc. With the exception of Wizzards Christmas classic, he’s hardly ever played on the radio.
Totally agree! Roy wood actually is a genius and needs to get a knighthood for services to music and culture. All Move songs are brilliant AND Wizard songs. See my Baby jive etc and without Roy Wood there probably never have been an ELO. If you listen to the great Blackberry way you can hear the sound of ELO way before there was an ELO. And even ABBA acknowledge See My Baby Jive as a huge influence on their song Waterloo. And I love the Christmas song because, again it’s genius. Singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist and as important as Ray Davies Pete Townsend and McCartney imo.
Absolutely. Roy Wood is a national treasure. A campaign should be started to honour his contribution to the UK music industry and tax coffers. I'm sure the BBC thought long and hard about which song / artist to launch Radio 1. It's time the government did the same while there is still time. www.gov.uk/honours
I swear Roy Wod is just rubbing his extraordinary talent it in people's faces lol. Double recorder, saxophone, French horn, clarinet, bagpipes, chelo, guitar he plays it all.
@@backthisway He can be seen playing the Chelo in 10538 overture by ELO, there's a few videos around. I knew Carl Wayne when he was singing in Cabaret at the Talk of London in the 80’s and you to see him there regularly. One of the nicest guys you could wish to meet and such an exceptional voice. Last time I saw him was around 92/93 when he was the Narrator in Blood Brothers. Sadly, I never got to see him after that but when I heard he’d joined the Hollies I knew he would be in his element and the audience would be in for a great vocal performance. I totally agree with you that Carl was one of the greatest vocalists out there. I’m honoured and blessed to have known him as an entertainer and a friend. He is always in my thoughts. Now he is singing with the angels and man must they be delighted to have him there. RIP Carl 🙏
Every now and again an eye out for any TH-cam videos of Carl. So I was really delighted to read your comment. It really puts a smile on my face when he gets the praise and recognition he deserves 👍
Roy like Brian Jones of the stones were great multi instrumentalists of that era and their respected bands. I love Roy Wood! Hecould it all in that era especially lyrically and musically. Just incredible stuff!
A classic of Roy Wood's quirky songwriting art. The Move were always there - but never quite there enough. A wandering image, a line up that came and went and some curious management decisions meant they were always one of the many great 60s bands that never quite made it as big as they might have. But some great tunes nevertheless!

Remembering Carl Wayne born on August 18, 1943. He was an English singer and actor. He is best remembered as the lead singer of The Move, a group that he co-founded in 1965. He sings lead on several of the band's hits, such as "Curly" (in which he also plays sitar), "Flowers in the Rain", "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", and "Night of Fear". - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Wayne
Apparently Bev Bevan thought putting this out was beneath The Move's high standards, and it embarrassed him playing it. Personally, I think it's a cracking catchy tune with great lyrics. It got to #12 in the UK charts.
The classic "misheard lyrics" song ("though he played with mud and won"......"when the doctor fears to come"...."but the nation's tones play on" etc.), thank goodness for the internet. The grammar, oh my goodness........ but a fantastic single nonetheless (I still have it)......
Roy Wood the one playing the 2 recorders at the same time was influenced by the Beatles and formed ELO with fellow Beatles disciple Jeff Lynne in 1970 and he formed Wizzard in 1973 after leaving ELO he's a legend in British rock!
Roy Wood, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton and Bev Bevan along with Chris Kefford all from Birmingham UK. Kefford left by this time. Later Trevor Burton and Carl Wayne left. Rick Price and Jeff Lynne joined. By 1972 this along with other session men became Electric Light Orchestra.

This one and Blackberry way are immortals.
Blackberry Way is a soulless Beatles Knockoff. This still has their influence but its really far more original as a whole still.
Don't forget FireBrigade
Roy Wood songs take a bit for me to like, but once I like them they never leave my head!
Brilliant. They were one of the strongest bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Magnificent vocals. Carl was great and Roy’s tone is electrifying.
It doesn’t get any better than this, pure brilliance! Thank you Roy, Carl, Rick and Bev my all time favourite song 👍

Super gute Erinnerungen an meine Lehrzeit.
They play tuned a step down. It's a huge part of their sound. Those deep plucky guitars. Love this band, esp this era.
Remember listening to this song in 1969 while on holiday in bridlington. Shame we don't see more of roy today.
Funny that, I remember being on holiday in Bridlington 1972 and listening to California Man. Very underrated band.
The ultimate blend of talent and creativity
When i,m sixteen years i,m never tired to hear this song every day and the b-side This time tomorrow.
You need to discern the difference between commas and apostrophes!
Mr. Peppercorn must add that Carl Wayne is one of the greatest vocalists ever in the history of R&R. America missed out!
True and some of their hitsingles were very good. I think many Americans do know their music.
Right again there, Peppercorn
To play two recorders at the same time is just genius.
Lol And to lip synch them so convincingly for Beat Club!
Yes. Not only can he talk, but he can PLAY, outta both sides of his mouth.
