Hi I'm italian and an italy main, thank to have covered this: National guards: cheapest and capable of moving in rugged, but Italy is not the ottomans. I buy if i have money to spent redshirts: a good flanking units. Placed in the forest with long rifle or constant harassing the enemy with breach. Lines: the cheapest tanky unit, i use them to cover the flank and give them long range weapon so they will not stay in range too long. They are solid to buy time to the flanking unit to attack or attack the enemy when they are harassed Zouaves: never used. They are good, but redshirts are a cheap flanking units and the zouaves are too expensive in comparison. Cacciatori franchi: please, "katch-ah-tor-ee fran-kee", you call them "poopers franks". The early "i got money left" unit. they are quite trash and in Italy today we give the nickname "franco tiratore" to somebody not reliable. In battle i use them to drag the enemy to waste an order or two against them. Alpi: They are good but expensive. If the terrain is full of forest go for them, otherwise the lines are cheapest. Bersaglieri: (you have said correctly) they are my favorite. If you keep them in reserve and then sneak them behind the enemy they will become the terror of the enemy. they cannot predict if they want to charge or shoot, if they move to the back or stay away. Playing the fanfara is a must. Granatieri: a better line infantry. They are probably the worst elite infantry but they can tank and shoot in open formation like they were in line. They role is not to dominate the battle, is to hold and assist the flanking units. They always get the best rifles Guides: Useless, even for a suicide assault. the cacciatori franchi are more capable than the guides Hussars: the main problem with Hussars is that there are better option for Italy. lancer: the best suicide cavalry. they do not end the match alive, but what they charge, they destroy. Carabinieri: Best flaking cavalry. Before the patch i dominate the battlefield with them, now less, but they are still good on flanking, sadly they do not have efficiency. Cavalleggeri: The main problem with the cavalleggeri is the fact the Carabinieri are still the best unit for the rugged perk and the lancer have more hp, making them more efficient than the cavalleggeri. Dragoni: they become more useful, they have the same role of the bersaglieri but they have more unit. Honestly i still use the bersaglieri because they are cheapest. 8lb: quite useless, better having more infantry than this cannon 16lb: better, if there is a map with a city or fort cover horse arty: standard, but good and cheapest of the 16lb 12cm: mine main artillery. This one is for pinning units, capable of moving and shooting and being capable of stay in a forest. Also it's a mortar so it ignore forest and friendly alike 15cm: just use the 12, it is even cheapest. Overall Italy is very flexible, it can work for a cheap build, a quality build and a combination of both. As an Italian you need to be very aggressive and unpredictable to win.
this is my fave faction. thanks for the info. I enjoyed your series on the game.
Finally a video on italy

I'm surprised by how short the Bersaglieri's description is
