My friend was heavily involved with the motion capture used in Happy Feet. George Miller let him have an advanced copy to show his wife before she died. He’s a class act.
It's insane that George Miller seems like a sweet, gentle, soft-spoken grandpa and he came up with such a bad-ass action movie like "Mad Max: Fury Road" which action directors HALF his age could only DREAM of making!
It's so great to see Mad Max being made more popular again. So many people aren't aware of just how influential the series was. Without Mad Max, we wouldn't have Escape From New York, Fist of the North Star, Twisted Metal, Borderlands, Fallout, and so many other post apocalyptic movies/books/comics/TV shows/games.
Im not gonna lie, I watched Fury Road without having any knowledge of the Mad Max franchise whatsoever, however, I immediately fell in love with it, the characters, the themes explored everything was so good that I had to investigate further, started watching the old films, even played the ps4 game(it was brilliant) and was surprised at how good the old films are considering how long ago they were made.
L C I watched fury road then I went to the original mad max and watched the documentary on the first mad max and I was captivated by his approach to filmmaking
@@resplndnt The original was the most interesting because everybody, including Miller and Kennedy, was a nobody. The budget for the whole shebang did not even reach $500,000. The guy who played Immortan Joe was the baddie in the first one and actually got to act.
the 'internal logic' line is very refreshing to hear. I think that's why Mad Max has resonated so much with people- it's a very stripped down story but still has a deep lore and atmosphere. It's basically a science fiction!
+Rock Roche no man for real he stated a few weeks ago that he is done with Mad Max that Fury Road was so hard to do, he doesn't want to do something like that anymore. Too bad, for me and I know many MANY people, it's the best film of 2015.
Cannot *wait* !! for the next movie. The soundtrack was insane! Especially the intense thrilling violin melody that was played during the action sequences :)
+Theo Roosevelt if you judge a film by the premise or genre then it's no better than judging a book by it's cover. Fury Road is an awesome, well acted, beautifully shot, femenist, exhilarating masterpiece. If it's not the best film of the decade so far it's far and away the best action film.
Nathan No i judge the movie... Fury Road is entertaining, cool, quite beautiful, well acted movie. But masterpice... nah! It could have been if it had a better story.
Fetto Degen I’m guessing he takes pretty good care of himself, he’s clearly a very intelligent man, he was a trauma doctor before he started making movies
I never heared of George Miller before even though I've seen the Mad Max movies... I really like how calm he is and I can identify to what he is saying - awesome!
And let's not forget that this is the guy who directed the best segment of the Twilight Zone movie....John Lithgow and the gremlin on the wing of the plane!
+ImVeryOriginal highly recommend going there to see part two. They show awesome footage of how George Miller captured so many practical stunts and explosions while driving like 60 mi/hr
+cloudofnirvana That footage can also be easily found in TH-cam. 20 minutes of it! Not to undermine the fact that ImVeryOriginal should indeed watch part 2
Mad Max was this insane breath of fresh air in the movie business. Almost no storytelling or character development, just pure chaos and madness, and it's goddamn amazing.
+Sir Blabbermouth I'm really glad you loved it, but I have to refute you on a few points. There was storytelling, it's just not said word for word. The acting of the characters, especially if you look at the faces, show what kind of world they live in and how they are living through it. Character development was plentiful. Nux is the most obvious example, but you see Max go from a self serving feral beast to a person who care for other people. At first you think Furiosa is some tough and stoic badass, but as the ride goes on, she begins to open up and you see how soft and broken she actually is. Action is one of the best shot and edited I have ever seen in my life.
I guess I could have been a little more clear. Of course there was a story, and character development, but that wasn't the main focus of the movie. You only really thought about it on your way home from the cinema. The story and char.dev, was pretty much overshadowed by the amazing visuals, downright insane action and roaring of engines, along with a badass tune.
Sir Blabbermouth Yeah I agree with that. All the people who hate on the movie are nitpicking when it comes to plot and characters, because that was not the focus of the movie.
It was a very good movie for me, though not exactly best of the decade stuff. But the goddamn atmosphere it had and maintained was incredible. Someone should screen this at a desert, I'd pay $50 to see it.
Why is Fury road so good, and different, and a breath of fresh air? Simple: No cliches. The lead woman isn't a princess, the car that gets stolen from the hero is never recovered, you never know what's gonna happen next, etc etc. For the rest of "action movies", five minutes into the film and can already tell you the whole story, and how it's gonna end. That's it. I have been waiting for years to be surprised by a film like this one. Surprised.
I agree... the road warrior will always be my mad max, but i did very much enjoy fury road.. thunderdome was meh, and of course mad max was great for the budget and idea.
"This is a documentary of how our life is going to be in 8 years." It's now 2020, and with how things have turned out. I wouldn't be surprised if this could become a documentary in 2024.
George Miller: "It's important to me that everything have an internal logic, even if the audience doesn't know it." Modern tentpole directors: "It doesn't matter if things don't make sense and the tone is all over the place, we'll just have the characters explain everything."
This is basics of storytelling bad movies and stories ignore. There must be subtext in scenes and story must have "internal logic" like he said. I would say the "internal logic" is sticking to rules of the story world and iceberg principle. Basically meaning even though you only show small slice of the "world" you can't act as the rest or the "world" doesn't exists. World building basically. World building is how stories like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and such have become such an thing. For example, tiny thing small spacecraft (like jedi fighter) not being able to go hyperspeed in star wars 1-3 is something that not many would see, but it indicates progress of technology when compared to originals.

+StarCrusher he does absolutely not.

George Miller for Best Director.

Mad Max was the best film of 2015!
@x12 417 ...according to Empire movie magazine, and well... I absolutely agree!

Protect George Miller at all costs. We need at least one sequel to fury road.

I don't think it'll win Best Picture but I would love it if Miller won Best Director. Statistically he's got a decent chance.
