I enjoyed your reaction and analysis. The arrangement was done by Geoff Castellucci, the incredible bass. He says that when he does an arrangement, he listens to the original over and over, and to every cover that he can find. If he can't add something, he doesn't do it. Not his intention to just copy anyone. Try 'Tennessee Whiskey', 'Carry On Wayward Son' and 'Hoist the Colours'. All their stuff is great!
Voiceplay!! If you want a song where they "GO!" after a build up Hosit The Colors is a must. Their cover of the Halo theme is amazing too, and as a touching tribute message at the end. Any recommendation is gonna be worth time though!
You should definitely check out their Fiddler on the Roof Cover of "If I were a Rich Man/Girl". Buuuuuuttttttt if you want to check out their bass singer Geoff, he just recently released a Monster Mash bass cover, if you wanted to dig more into that side of it.
Thank you for this. I've heard it a few times but never really appreciated it as much as I did this time and that has a lot to do with your explanations. Beautiful, so thanks. Geoff Castellucci, bass; Layne Stein, vocal percussion, J.None, (guy in the hat) smooth baritone; Eli (pronounced Ellie) Jacobson, tenor. John Pinto is the featured guest here.
You should check out Pinto's earlier collab with Voiceplay, "It Ain't Me." He hits an INSANE high note, which is immediately followed by one of Geoff's patented bass depth charges. Their former high tenor, Earl, is still in the group for that one, so you know there's some serious tenor going on.
Voiceplay always puts their own creative spins on the songs they perform. They usually do a full-on production with sets, costumes and makeup. Geoff (bass) is not human. He'll rattle your soul, but be so smooth you'll ask for more. As others have said, since you liked the Sea Shanty, I think you'd love Hoist the Colours.
It was lovely up to the point where Pinto sang a high 'ee' vowel. It sounded really closed down. If he sang it with a little space inside it wouldnt sound so thin.
This was beautifully arranged and performed, as VP never fails. For another version, check out Austin Brown's cover on his channel (tenor from Home Free). Stunning.
Loved your analysis, thank you. I've always been awestruck by the way they bring in featured singers and make them sound like they've been together forever. Perhaps it's in the backing vowels, as you mentioned they change them when different voices are carrying the lead. I'm going to start listening for that. Pretty much anything in their back catalogue that draws you is going to be good. The newer ones though, are a clear step up. If I Were a Rich Man/Girl, Hoist the Colours, the Halo Theme, their Halloween release I've got Friends on the Other Side -- all are just killer. To get a real sense of Geoff Castellucci as a singer, listen to his cover of Blackbird. (But Monster Mash is really, really run)
John always reminds me of Brandon Routh, like he could play his younger brother or something. That aside, I have loved his voice ever since I first saw him do It's Not Me with Voiceplay! Great reaction. Beautiful song. #VoicePlaya4Life
You have to check out VoicePlay Hoist the Colours, Friends on the Other Side and the Little Mermaid. Geoff Castellucci Sixteen Tons, Misty Mountains and Monster Mash. Pentatonix Blinding Lights, Sing and Making Christmas.
You've just scratched the surface of Voiceplay. Their best songs in my opinion are Hoist the Colours, Halo Theme and Warriors. They have so many fantastic songs, but those are on a different level.
BTW, great analysis. I thought the same thing about the part with Layne on Vocal Percussion. Just a bit jarring and maybe forced. Not something that happens often in their arrangements.
You basically can't go wrong with a voiceplay video. Little mermaid has a good spread of leads and chemistry, queen in 5 minutes shows arranging and earl, just sing is an amazing collaboration with basically everyone they know, friends on the other side is a good feature of Jay, get back up again from trolls is very fun, billie eilish/ panic at the disco in 5 minutes have good story elements in video... then there's Geoff's channel (bass singer) doing 16 tons and blackbird. Basically just dive in, do what looks interesting. It's all good
Definitely do Hoist the Colors! Very theatrical :) I think VoicePlay is acapella musical theater group - they give you the whole experience! Like a musical. You might want to check out the medly for LIittle Mermaid too. Ah and don't forget if you Like Geoff (base) and great harmonies you should do Oogie Boogie! That rocks :) Oh, and Queen in 5 minutes is GREAT. :) Hey, they are all good, and Home Free and Voiceplay are my top two picks. Pentatonix doesn't really do it for me. Good but eh.. matter of the voice styles.
Hi yes! More VoicePlay please! Cant go wrong with them! Hoist the colors, Kiss, Tennesse Whiskey, You are a mean one, mr Grinch, If I were a rich man/girl, The little mermaid medley, Queen in 5 min, Moana Medley, Oogie Boogie Song....
Voiceplay is very versatile and Geoff (bass) and Layne (percussion) do the vast majority of their arrangements. If you liked this one, buckle up and watch "can't help falling in love".
I'd love to see you react to more Voice Play... favorites are Warriors, Bang, If I Were a Rich Man, Hoist the Colors (EPIC!), Queen in 5 Minutes. I love VP, and really enjoy your breakdowns.
This is by far my favorite cover of this song. John Pinto Jr. (the lead in this one) also did "It Ain't Me" with VoicePlay - also stunning: th-cam.com/video/6JfyQKSslmQ/w-d-xo.html, I also vote for "Hoist the Colors," and then their "Halo" theme, which is unbelievably good.
I love your breakdown. It makes me appreciate the artists more. I see you've only done 3 reactions to VoicePlay. Really wish you'd do Hoist the Colours and just for fun, Oogie Boogie.
I actually found you by your reaction to Junna, though I love Voiceplay. I have too many subscriptions already, otherwise I would subscribe, but if I subscribed to every channel I couldn't even find the videos I most want to see among all the notices. Such an amazing cover of this song. You have reacted to Yoyoka and Junna, you should check out Sina as well. You also should check out Dorothea Taylor (The Godmother Of Drumming) "Down With The Sickness" cover and The Wagakki Band "Drum Wadaiko Battle", The Wagakki Band is a metal band that has two drummers, for good reason.
This arrangement was written by Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci, the bass singer. Those things you pointed out about how the other singers adjusted to the leads by the featured singer John Pinto and VP regular J None, guaranteed Geoff included that adjustment on purpose in his arrangement (he specializes in that sort of thing). Their songs are usually arranged by either Geoff or Layne Stein, the beatboxer. And agreed, Layne doesn't always do the drum thing like other beatboxers, often going for a more organic sound, or a sound-effects type of percussion. But respect for pointing out your preferences. I'd like to see you do a lot more with VP's catalog. There are a lot of theatrical pieces, and you may be tempted to think anything with a costume, makeup or backdrop is lacking on the vocal side, but these guys will blow you away! One especially so, in their Little Mermaid medley, the bass singer Geoff is painted blue and sings Ursula's _Poor Unfortunate Souls,_ he does a D5 to D1 slide -- yes, 4 octaves singing a one-syllable word ("souls"). Some will argue it's a 3-octave slide since the D1 is a subharmonic of the D2, plus it's extremely hard to slide in sub, but then again that's kinda what singing a low note in subharmonic is, so I think it's him modulating it vocally, and not editing. But love to hear your analysis, of that and many other vocally substantive moments in the piece!
Omg…love ur reactions! As a harmony lover, u have to check out Home Free’s latest on TH-cam…”brother in arms”…amazing…brought tears to my eyes!!! No drum kit either.
This song has been recorded by so many artists. The Righteous Brothers did the best version hands down of this classic song. Sadly we recently lost Bobby Hatfield. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Austin Brown from Home Free did a very beautiful tribute of this song.
This is so nice but I still love the one I heard as a child. Righteous Brothers Bobby Hatfield. He was on the Andy Williams show. Had to look it was 1965 I was 10 or 11.

Seconding Hoist The Colours, because that is a showstopper of an arrangement. Although the others suggested here are also great.
Hoist the Colours and If I Were a Rich Man/Girl both by Voiceplay. Both are jaw-dropping.
I'm gonna recommend Voiceplay's Hoist the Colors. It's absolutely incredible.
Their version of Kansas' Carry on my wayward son!😍
Voiceplay!! If you want a song where they "GO!" after a build up Hosit The Colors is a must. Their cover of the Halo theme is amazing too, and as a touching tribute message at the end. Any recommendation is gonna be worth time though!

The lead, John Pinto, is a Broadway actor. Hence, the high poppy sound.
It was lovely up to the point where Pinto sang a high 'ee' vowel. It sounded really closed down. If he sang it with a little space inside it wouldnt sound so thin.

So nice that you did this, it’s not often reacted to.
I agree. This is one my favorites of theirs. It also happens to be one my favorite songs ever so...
John always reminds me of Brandon Routh, like he could play his younger brother or something. That aside, I have loved his voice ever since I first saw him do It's Not Me with Voiceplay! Great reaction. Beautiful song. #VoicePlaya4Life
II can't help falling in love with you....their arrangement is amazing!!!!!!
New rules / Are you that somebody ptx. You'll absolutely love this. Bass + Beatbox
I really love all of your reactions. I learn something new every time
You’re “On Top” with your analysis Jarvis! I must view everyday now. Another Banger gets this 75 yr old movin’!!

OMG... for bass instument cover, you should hear Superstition. Geoff hits that iconic bass line riff perfectly!

Best cover of this gorgeous song that I've ever heard. Just beautiful! 💖

Home free 9 to 5 live show .
That odd percussion spot was him pulling a three against four if you missed it.
Omg…love ur reactions! As a harmony lover, u have to check out Home Free’s latest on TH-cam…”brother in arms”…amazing…brought tears to my eyes!!! No drum kit either.
You MUST react to Voiceplay’s latest cover “Hoist The Colours” from Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s 🔥 🔥 on all levels.
Voice play hoist the colors or homefree Elvira would be awesome to see your reaction.

You should listen to Angelina Jordan
That was nice! But IMO doesn’t compare to Austin Brown’s solo rendition of this song. Would like you to do a reaction to it.
Sorry - i love your analyses, but the repetitive phrase music in the background is really distracting.
Since when did a drummer become a vocal coach lol..
Nice but it's not as good as Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers.
