To be honest. We don't have the need to expand long range railway lines anymore. Only highspeed lines are needed that too are never long
@@yajamanvamsikrishna509 NE India needs further rail infrastructure, but I agree we should focus on building our own high speed lines. I think it will happen, ICF has a done a remarkable job making Vande Bharat, so it's just matter of time.
@@socialistsolidarity You need to consider the geography of NE areas into consideration. Remember what happened in Manipur recently? Entire railway tracks along with workers got swept away and buried under landslide.
Also the Vande Bharat is using the 70's technology adopted in Chinese railways. That's how backward our developments are.
We still haven't found a solution for the animals that sometimes wander off to the tracks resulting in accident or time-late. We can't building all the track on bridges can we?

Even though india has 4th most nu. Of kms tracks but if you compare land area with other top 3 countries , india is way smaller land area which makes it highly dense railways

21:28 But to be honest it was kind a disappointing to see stats of 1947 to 2022 when we compare that to 19th-20th century, We need to focus on rail connectivity in north eastern states. I know its easier to be said that done since the terrain makes it very difficult as compared to other states but hope so we improve even more
Even though the route length has not changed drastically since 1947 but a lot of improvements have been made since then like electrification, doubling tracks along many routes and converting to broad gauge among many other things.

@@SarojYadav-hf3lc For eg From Delhi to Bangalore we can go in 2 routes in train.If we consider only 1 route it is route length if we consider both it is total track length
This can be attributed to the fact that all the high capacity and high demand routes like Mumbai-Delhi, Chennai-Mumbai, Pune-Hyderabad or Kolkata-Delhi have already been built during British era. Any new routes can't be guaranteed with considerable amount of traffic because many of the most important lines already exist, thus discouraging the government to go so far to build new ones instead of just upgrading or widening the existing network.

The first railway on Indian sub-continent ran over a stretch of 21 miles from Bombay to Thane. The idea of a railway to connect Bombay with Thane, Kalyan and with the Thal and Bhore Ghats inclines first occurred to Mr. George Clark, the Chief Engineer of the Bombay Government, during a visit to Bhandup in 1843.

I have noticed that mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata were the first cities to get railway and they're economic powerhouse of India. Only Kolkata has declined due to communist government but it is still biggest in east india

We must take a bow and raise a toast for that as one must not underestimate the length of tracks we lost after partition and global challenges that came amidst the journey of our railway truly defined our journey..
Very well researched and well presented. It would take hours if one were to read about it on wiki. Project unigauge could have been mentioned. That opened up a lot of direct routes. From around 25000 BG track kilometres in 1992, we have come to apprpx 65000 BG track KM currently which itself is a huge achievement

Brother I am Sikh living in Lahore Pakistan India is developing rapidly. growing of Indian railways is amazing .but in Pakistan condition of railways is very 😞 bad .
India isn't developing rapidly, you could said the railways yeah, but they don't usually maintain trains good, especially thier toilets, even in trains that are premium to the common man don't have proper toilets, you could add a expection of vande Bharat as all tourists will travel in it, lots of Indians are uneducated people with no manners, alots of them land in Modi's vote bank, besides that, india dosent enforce laws so strictly and thier police averagely (I'd say goa police) take bribes, and only really care about money.
Really appreciate your hard work and dedication in collecting data. And thank you for giving the feel of every Indian's warm relationship, attachment and affection to the "lifeline of the nation".

@@nknkannadiga9742 it would have been completed but uddhav Thackeray stopped all the projects as completion of project would give credit to BJP ,but now government is again if bjp so work is in fast track mode , mumbai Ahmedabad is just a small phase of bullet train project in future these tracks will connect all major cities,from Mumbai it will go into Karnataka and then connect rest of southern India and from Ahmedabad it'll go to Delhi and from their connect other cities.

India came into existence with the brand Indian Railways and Indian Post and Telegraph. Both of these communication links were the foundation for India's birth, for which credit should go to the British. Otherwise, this vast sub continent had over 550 kingdoms. India was born on 15 August 1947. When the British left, Sardar Patel stitched 550 kingdoms as the Union of India as we know it today.... The British were super managers. Independent India has not built one Hill Station or add any new line to any Hill station except the Srinagar line. The work on Bullet Train is tardy. China has built over 40,000 km rail track for their 2000 operational Bullet Trains in the last 22 years.
indeed they were , we are able to build only 15000 km of tracks after independence! and they were able to build more then 65000km!
