Princess Hang Li Poh married Sultan Mansoor Shah in 1459 and brought 500 people from China. The sultan presented them Bukit China or Chinese Hill in midtown.
Alvin got it wrong by saying Paranakan Ware got no "Dragon Motif". Off cause there is only very very rare for it is specially custom made by wealthy Babas. With due respect this ware are not allowed for kitchen use but to place on the Ancestors ' table for praying, a plate where a kumcheng is place on top. I definitely knows what I'm talking though it is hard to believe by some due to it's rarelity & never seen by most.

Betul tu.....mine is a mixture. My maternal great-grandma was a Nyonya, although I am Malay by birth. So I get the best of both worlds and learn traditional Nyonya cooking from my grandma (gotta tahan her nagging!!) Anyway pande awak pantun. Orang melayu pon sekarang dah tak tau nak berpantun.

Panggilan serta tradisi Baba Nyonya di Malay & Singapore hampir sama dengan masyarakat Cina Benteng, termasuk panggilan Nyak dalam Betawi = Nyanya(panggilan mama untuk Peranakan Baba di Malay) dan juga adat pernikahan seperti Cio Tao (上头) tradisi ini masih terjaga di masyarakat Cina Benteng, orang Baba Nyonya bilang Cheow Tao Bahkan kue2 khas Betawi yang sering dijual disini (Jakarta) sama dengan kue Nyonya di Singapore or Malay. no youre wrong the term Baba is an honorific for Straits Chinese men. It originated as a Hindustani (originally Persian) loan-word borrowed by Malay speakers as a term of affection for one's grandparents, and became part of the common vernacular. Nyonya (also spelled nyonyah or nonya) is a Malay and Indonesian honorific used to refer to a foreign married lady. It is a loan word, borrowed from the old Portuguese word for lady donha. do some research first
