You make very good and interesting videos. Most Singapore videos are about food, but you cover a wide variety of other areas of interest. You also come across as polite, considerate and genuine. Videos are well explained in a clear and interesting way. As an American who worked there before, I relate and appreciate your work. Thanks for the good effort.
Mazu temples play a very important role for immigrant societies such as Singapore. Our early ancestors used to brave a 2 week long journey at sea from China to Nanyang back in the 19th century .... Obviously, this trip was fraught with much danger. Temples such as Thian Hock Keng (set up by the Hokkiens) and Yueh Hai Ching (which catered primarily to the Teochews) were hence importance landmarks as they serve to provide an outlet for early immigrants to offer thanksgiving for a safe journey and blessings for a new beginning

My family used to come and pray at this temple when I was little.
I would bring a small bag of uncooked rice to feed the pigeons.

很喜欢你的旁述，妈祖是海神，以前我们祖先都是坐帆船从中国到新加坡，海上会遇到大风大浪，很幸苦，有些人会生病，有些牺牲了。所以到新加坡要谢谢妈祖。OK just for sharing.
玄天大帝也是海神，是明朝的頭號海神，媽祖是清朝的頭號海神！

Qianlong was from 1711-1799, surely if the temple is built during that time, it is 200 years old? But Singapore wasn't colonised till 1819?
Some traced the history of the temple to as far back as to 1738. The general consensus is that the temple was first put up in 1820 as a simple wood and attap temple. Wikipedia

@@sgboon Did not say no Singapore before 1819 (not 1918), said that Singapore only colonised by British in 1819. After that a lot more immigrants from China came looking for work. The journey from China to SG by sea is dangerous, hence I thought the shrine to Mazu was only built around then for the immigrants to give thanks for having safely arrived. It's a surprise to me it was already there from earlier times.
