I’ve been looking for something to replace a game that fizzled out. I found your channel last night and now I’ve got a 4 person group excited for Masks and we’re starting Friday. Thanks for all of these videos!
MHA fits the generation so well Golden Age - All for One, Gran Torino Silver Age - All Might, Endeavor Bronze Age - Hawks, Kamui Woods, Mt. Lady, Eraserhead Modern - Class 1-A, Shigaraki, Toga, Dabi
These videos have honestly been really helpful for me. I've GMed Masks a couple times, and I've always felt like I was doing something wrong. With the tips I've learned from these videos, I'm much more confident to run my next campaign. Thanks a ton!
Cheers from Brazil! Your channel is awesome, your sense of humor is hilarious and your content is really interesting (I just got into PbtA games recently)! You're underestimated! Thanx
WOOP! WOOP! More content! Hellz yeah my man! One of the modern stories I ran the players were part of an E-Sports team and they were being tracked by the villain's via where they were playing tournaments. Another thing of "Bad guy is bad because of badness" is that you have zero chance of a way for your players to relate to the baddun for a possible redemption story where up as soon as the villain has a change of heart the EVEN BIGGER BADDUN who was manipulating the baddun from the shadows shows up and now the baddun teams up with the heroes to fight the guy. Or maybe he even sacrifices himself to wound the baddun (yes I know this is the plot to Starwars) so that the players stand a chance. Holy crap this your explanation of conditions is just so much better than that book. I thought I understood it but dang its way more clear. TY for that. As usual thanks for making content for us! You rock my socks!
Dude I LOVE that eSports idea and I'm 100% stealing that for a future game! And totally! Purely evil bad guys just limit the direction you can take the story in so many ways, I can't even fathom what benefit there may be to stunting your villains that way. And thanks! It took a lot of trial and error on my part, and reddit research, to figure out wtf Brenden Conway was talking about when he wrote the villains section 🤣 As usual thanks for watching the content I make and the comments you leave!
1 condition is less a low-tier thug. Those don’t even get conditions Their more like that buff henchman, who has no superpowers, their just swole This is just my interpretation based on the rules
Hey Tabletop Bro! I've got another video idea for you that can be broader than just Masks! Note taking as a GM in PBTA game. There's a bunch of advice for taking GM notes during sessions in DND but a lot of the advice comes down to "most plot and important moments should be in your pre-game prep so jot something down if it's unexpected and you might forget it" I was a terrible note taker through school and in PBTA (as I understand it) everything that happens should be rather unexpected and I can't be constantly writing down everything that happens so how do I know what/when to take session notes? Not sure if this is just a me problem, but if not hopefully this suggestion is helpful! Thanks for the good work you do!
Great idea! Almost all of the best moments in my games come from revisiting elements that were created organically (aka my players idea) and that requires note taking. I SHALL THROW IT IN THE PIPELINE! btw I'm working on an ULTIMATE Playbooks Guide for Masks: A New Generation!
Where is the organizational tool mentioned at the very end? I don't see a link for it anywhere, and I could really use it for a oneshot I'm GMing on Wednesday!
"Villains being evil for the sake of evil is really lame" *Jack Horner pulling out a crossbow* "Aight, do me a favor and don't move while I'll shoot you" In all honesty, it's all depends if they're entertaining while being evil.
I’m considering using masks for a future superhero campaign. The way conditions work seems really cool, but I’m concerned that I’d be giving a villain more conditions than they’d be able to, like, feel. Like what if the villain is a super major threat, but has no capability to feel things like anger or guilt, such as a mechanical AI. Do I give them less conditions because they physically cannot feel them but now they can be downed more easily? Or more conditions so the threat is more apparent but now I have to make up weird reasons on the fly as to why they’re feeling these things when before it’s established they don’t have the capability?
Isn't like the whole schtick of Age of Ultron the fact that Ultron developed sentience and became angry with humanity? Either way, figuring out a way for your villains to have that depth will make your game WAY more interesting than if you left them two dimensional.
@@tabletopbro I can certainly give it a shot. Upon looking at the villain I have planned and the conditions list, I think a few MAY be able to be applied. Either way thanks for the input!!!
@@tabletopbro though I will note that that’s only in the MCU. Comics Ultron’s reasons for wanting humanity dead is… a little less tropey. Hank Pym made him and copied his AI off of his own mind. This wouldn’t be such a bad thing if Hank wasn’t *very insane* at the time he did this.
Rewatch Blade Runner and Terminator and Ghost in the shell and make your villainous AI's Condition be something like: reload yourself, push through, lose sensor connections, delirium glitch. lose motor ability, feel or wish you could.
I kinda like the generations but I also don’t care for the catch all labels. Particularly for Gold and Bronze. I have loose ideas on how to make them better more whole characters. For golden age characters I think for a solid 30% minimum the “back in my day” spiel is a facade. Fear the old men in a profession where you die young. I think these old birds know and understand the theatrics of and charisma of the job. The whole idea of superheroes back in WWII was inherently political. Their old tools are probably nowhere near as high tech but that means they have a lot of foundational knowledge about the mundane of heroics, how to tuck and roll after a jump/fall, etc. most of their politic or catchphrases are a bit out of date, but the GREAT ones will encourage the new generation to apply the bare core to the current day problems. Silver age is pretty good, I like to think that they observed the golden age, maybe the theatrics weren’t enough so they needed ACTION to slap society and say “HEY, I ain’t putting up with your ‘Everything is smiles here’ if the system isn’t working I’ll work outside it” I typically see the Silver age as the most ambitious, the most daring, and perhaps very in tune with the passion of the people. I don’t like the idea of the Bronze Age being a bunch of grungy cynical grumps. We can have some of that, but I’d rather the flavor be that of an older sibling going “Look kid, I know what you’re thinking you’re going to be the next big thing and run straight into an alley mugging but think before you leap alright?”. I’d be all for a generation who saw the silver age as THEY were becoming teenagers, the silver age are making stuff look easy but it’s not easy. I imagine the Peter B. Parkers, the Miguel O’Hara’s, I see the Avengers Hawkeye, the DC Cyborg. Heck I think it could be interesting if a shared idea among the Bronze Age is “You’re not ready for this yet” (because we weren’t at your age, and we had to catch ourselves before we shattered).
Cool video, thanks for doing Mask's stuff. I'm gming it myself and having some problems after dnd. Especially problematic is Nova player, who literally has "Fuck you, GM" move of telekinetic grappling enemies withouta role, because of which I literally cant use escapes. They fully defit two of my villain's because of that. Have any ideas of how to deal whith it? And sorry for my poor English, still learning it.
Of course! The easy answer is your next villain has some anti-telekinetic armor or something like that which nullifies the move. That also sounds like an incredibly powerful superpower -- which is of course the hwole idea of the Nova. But the downside of the Nova's incredibly powerful superpowers is that they struggle to control them. So every time they use their telekinetic grappling ability, utilize the Nova's Burn mechanic. This means they have to charge their power before they can use it and they have to roll to make sure they don't lose control. And if they're like "wtf I could do it just fine before," you can either tell them you fucked up on the mechanics OR you can say that the frequency at which they're using their powers is destabilizing them or something. AND FINALLY your English is FAR better than my ability to speak your first language 😀
@@tabletopbro Thanks a lot! That was really helpful. By the way, player actually come to me by himself and literally asked me "Are you okay with that ability?" So, we had a small conversation and come up with idia that frome now on it only works on not meta-humans. But the next villan still going to do antitelepatic stuff 👀 Thanks again for your content and advice, I really appreciate it!
