But Then It Fell Apart author, award-winning musician, and Herman Melville's great-great-great-grandnephew Moby testifies that the excesses of success can be deceptively unrewarding.

I just saw your interview with Jordan Harbinger the other day and felt the urge to wright you a letter. Why? Well, I am not a fan of your music, nor do I stalk stars. In fact I was never interested in you particularly, because I don´t like techno and I rather wondered why you are so successful. After watching the video my view changed. You said so many things, I really can relate to. Your journey from beeing a narcissistic celebrity to a humble and generous minimalist is astounding. I admire how you dedicate your life to the vegan cause and try to live in the service of humanity. The way you describe your struggle with becoming a better person, your openess, vulnerability, honesty and intelligence? All that is heartmelting. The metaphor of the carpet, that tends to roll up, is brillant. So thank you for sharing your thoughts on why money and fame is a mirage, people shouldn´t chase and worship. You talked about your plan b to give philosophy lectures at a community college. Would you still consider doing this, Moby? Isn´t this, what it´s all about? Talking about the meaning and purpose of life, while teaching others to have less bad impact on themselves and the environment? I am an unglamorous art teacher, who has never been drunk in life. Nevertheless I would love to discuss and talk with you about this stuff…

Moby you had an interesting life..i love this interview.went from hanging with drug addicts in a warehouse and bars to making his way to richer famous drug addicts. Soul searching and found 10 years of sobriety..that to me was your biggest accomplishment..proud of you..

When you're a kid, every little thing that happens feels like a big deal. Think about when you got a new toy, you felt so much happier the next few days until you got sick of the toy. I feel like adults get sick of things a lot faster.

Ironic that you are related to Herman Melville who made his name from writing a (long, tedious) novel about the pursuit of a helpless whale to murder him (his interpretation of the hero's journey) when you are an animal activist, the antithesis of Melville's philosophy.
My great, great grandfather was a white man (the only people who could own land), also the largest land owner (robber) of land in California at one time with billions of cattle (exploited, murdered animals) and I'm a very involved animal activist.

I think that you understood the book wrong... it has nothing to do with the whale, but with the obsession. You can replace the whale with anything: money, fame, prestige, sex, etc. to get to the point.
Thank you, Moby for being a voice for the hundreds of millions of animals exploited, tortured and murdered daily and the almost completely destroyed earth all thanks to non-vegans.
This is a miserable world thanks to non-vegans.

I skip college and ran off and got high and watched song remains the same and became a musician instead
But I did finish my university studies so that I could teach at that community college
