    You should paint the upstairs dome black and wire some fiberoptic lighting to do the night sky across the whole dome

      you could get neil degrasse tyson to get an image of the actual sky at night for that area , would be pretty awesome if not too costly to do

    I was in the Air Force during the 60s. I was stationed at LRAFB and spent all my time going out too all 18 of the Titan II sites to work on many of the electronic and communication systems. The last time I was in one of those sites was 1967, over 50 years ago. I stumbled across your channel a few days ago. I know I've been in your site because I've been in all 18 many times. I don't know which site you have but I'm really curious as to which one you have. Do you know the site number or can you say where you are? If I know which one you have I can most likely relate some story Help me out here and humor an old AF veteran.

      I did some digging around online and I'm fairly sure its around Hamlet AR, site number 373-9. I referenced some photos of the site in their videos with that site on google maps and it seems to match. I'm mainly just making an educated guess, though.

      You’re right, some have an old muscle car, some have another house on the beach. Not too common to have a Cold War missile silo. Crazy as it seems these things are in really high demand. Places like Yugoslavia, Nebraska these places sell for insane amounts of money. I know I don’t have the patience or funds for it haha

    Dear Sir, first I apologize for my English. I am very impressed with the work you did. I would like to suggest what should be done to make the shelter functional.
    1.) Air filters to clean contaminated outside air.
    2.) Compressor and compressed air cylinders to survive at least a month completely shut off.
    3.) There must be a higher pressure in the shelter than outside, so that ground water does not get inside the shelter.
    4.) Four diesel power generators. Hot air from engine cooling can be used to heat and dehumidify rooms.
    5.) Batteries that will provide power in an emergency.

    Hiya!
    I really commend you for pulling through with your dream project! Where a lot of people talk smart from their sofas you actually make it happen piece by piece!
    One question I had was why does the sewer have to be redesigned? How did they do it when the silo was in use?
    Also given you have apparently no shortage of water, can you use that maybe somehow, at least for non-potable applications (e.g. toilets)?
    Lastly you might be able to seal the levels with a ring of foam, that way it can move... but you probably already thought of that.
    All the best to you and keep those videos coming!

  • @johnabbottphotography
    @johnabbottphotography 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'd love it if you would do a Q&A for our questions in the future.
    Thanks for showing us what it takes to rehab a silo.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's no problem John. How would you like to see that done? Live stream? Reddit AMA?

    • @johnabbottphotography
      @johnabbottphotography 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't do Reddit, so livestream would probably be the best?
      Having said that... you could also do one video asking for questions, and then just answer them in a second video. It might be easier that way, just so that you could provide video to answer the question. As an example: if someone asked a particular question about your sump system, do you take the time to go to the Sump? Or would you rather record the sequence?
      There is honestly SO much to digest in what you're doing, and what you've done. Its definitely a labor of love, because no human being in their right mind would look at a 30 foot deep entranceway with a giant piece of concrete and water in it, and think: Yep, I'm willing to do all of this just to get to the door that has tons of water behind it.

      Hola fucking Shit!!! "The initial explosion catapulted the 740-ton silo door away from the silo and ejected the second stage and warhead. Once clear of the silo, the second stage exploded. The W53 warhead landed about 100 feet (30 m) from the launch complex's entry gate; its safety features prevented any loss of radioactive material or nuclear detonation."

    If you're taking the huge amount of time to run cable in there, you should defiantly run fiber. Save yourself the time when you want to do it in the next 10 years.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Copper Cat6 can run 10Gbps+. I'm in the middle of nowhere... no possibility of speeds to exceed that in decades.

    • @hootis8
      @hootis8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      true. Thought ca6 10gbps was limited to 100m and you might be hitting that limit.

    • @lukepeters3383
      @lukepeters3383 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. The use of fiber optic is more for distance rather than speed for a scenario like this beast of a facility, just make sure you use LR transceivers and switching to support them (If the distance warrants them, no idea how much cabling you will need!)

    The dome ceiling above level one would look nice painted to look like sky. Then with changing mood lighting, you could simulate sunrise, sunset, night, and full daylight. If you’ve been to Vegas and seen the grand canal at The Venetian, the ceiling there is the kind of look you might want to consider.

    We are into June now so could we get an update video to show how things have progressed since Jan this year? Also since you have the Silo side sealed off inside it would be safe to start the process to clear it out even while you are renting the main space out. Hopefully even using some of the proceeds to help fund that expansion to that space. While it would be a massive undertaking it would easily double your total usable space PLUS since its top had been blown off you could do a really cool glass top roof there with the most incredible bedroom under the stars. Good work so far and look forward to hearing more.

    Do you know if the diesel generator is still in the silo or did they remove it?

    GT, Hopefully you remember to brace all the steps on your spiral staircases when you put the railings on. I emailed you information on that quite a while ago. Your stairs are not up to code. It's a safety issue. Let me know if you need me to resend it.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jess - Sure, feel free to resend. The railing will help some with the strength. We've had 1000 lbs of people on the stairs and they were rock stars so I'm feeling ok about it. But would like to hear what you see wrong (besides the lack of railing).

      Hey GT I am traveling back to the southwest with my two kids on about Aug 1st and am interested in stopping by to see/stay the night. We toured the titan missile museum in our home state of AZ a couple years ago and I’m sure the kids would think it was cool. How can I contact you? I’m not on Twitter but can email you.? Thanks

    About communications, if You are slow, I hope You did put in not only cell cables but some optical, its easier to do all of the cables together, from my small experiance. also, are you not concerned about those "went" lines being steel (rust)? I see two solutions. Either plug them with epoxy resin or push trough some inner PVC so you can always slide anything trough. Good luck with the build.

    You should do a circular accordion door on level 1.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I looked at that after your comment. That could work... I'm thinking about how to make it emergency open in case of emergency. I've also thought a camera iris type door would be cool but not easy to build. I may resort to a hatch type door... not sure yet.

      +EFormance Engineering +Death Wears Bunny Slippers Huh, you both have good ideas for doors. I'd love to tackle a project like that someday, what a blast it would be to build!

      Death Wears Bunny Slippers take a page from the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta, they’ve got an iris type roof. Though I like the idea of a submarine hatch as well

    Who are you and what are you doing in my video feed?
    OMG it's the silo channel, awesome!!! :D
    BTW for windows I think a very good alternative are those LED panels. They are flat, side-lit large area lights that basically create a very nice light that is similar to a window not facing the sun. Theoretically you could also computer control them so the light slightly changes like clouds moving changing the light level naturally. But that would be an alternative to light a bunker like this so it looks nice. Point lights are so ugly with their hard shadows imho.

    Ok gotta ask... why not install legs under level 3, and more beams holding level 2 above level 3, (at correct tunnel height) Eliminating all movement and wall/floor gaps. Tunnel ramp/step will be smooth, and the springs and some beams will be removable.... more open space!

    I am curious for your reasoning for using a water manifold. Wouldn't multiple on-demand systems, at each point, be more cost effective?

    Great to see you back. Progress looking good. From a style point of view how about a" Cold War chic" style kitchen? Integrate appliances to give the look of a command and control centre?
    In the access shaft a living wall setup would be a good solution. Lots of lovely oxygen and use for that spare water. Is there the option to build some sort of living aquarium to act as a buffer sump? Direct the water into it and then pump out any excess?
    The solution is to work in partnership with rather than fight against what you have.

    I feel like the most cost effective way to deal with the staircase would be a round chainlink fence to keep people from falling, maybe not on the top floor but the lounge area if you're goin for that mission control aesthetic
