  • Terminator 2 3D: Battle Across Time (also known as T2 3D: Battle Across Time) is a 3D and live-action show featured at Universal Studios Japan and formerly, Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood. The show is a mini-sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day and reunited director James Cameron and the main cast from the movie, including Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong as John Conor, and Robert Patrick as the T-1000. The show is a theatre-based presentation featuring 3D film, live-action and pyrotechnics. In this video, we take a look at the development of the attraction, James Cameron’s involvement with the show, and the closures of Florida and Hollywood versions.

    This was exceptionally well done. I played Sarah Connor at USH from the '99 opening to the 12/31/12 closing performance and honestly I was a little afraid to watch. But you did an amazing job and you had some facts that were completely new to me. Thanks for the fantastic tribute.

      You're not the only one I only recognize The Terminator, Terminator 2 Judgment Day and T2 3D as the one true Terminator movies Rise Of The Machines, Salvation and Genisys can fuck themselves hell I don't even recognize The Sarah Connor Chronicles nor even the T2 novels at all, and It's so heartbreaking to know that I enjoyed it so damn much as a kid and saw it many other times with 2009 my last time ever and that 3 years later it said goodbye forever in Hollywood and just now said goodbye 2 years ago in Florida, but here through this video my eternal childhood lives on forever.

    My Dad took my family and I to Universal Studios Florida almost every other summer growing up and Terminator was a family favorite. I remember watching the show for the first time when I was 7 years old and being blown away by the excitement and spectacle of this attraction. Watching this video brings back so many beautiful memories of our family vacations. The nostalgia is so real right now. Thank you for making these videos! I just found this channel on Monday and I love it

      I didn't experience the show until it was in the last few years because my family wasn't interested in sitting for a show when there were all the rides in the park. I can say that was a mistake, I loved the show! It was such an awesome mix of live action and 3D, with some pretty cool effects. Also was awesome seeing the original actors back for the film, didn't see that happen at all back in the day for rides. Thanks for watching Lindsay, we appreciate your support!

    Awesome cooperation from the huge talent of the day. Cameron really was the King of Hollywood in his heyday using his considerable might to bring back his actors long after T2 was but a distant unforgettable memory. Only true masters of their craft like Cameron and Spielberg care enough to fully get behind things like this. I remember the buzz about this ride but never got around to experiencing it.

    GREAT VIDEO! This attraction was my #1 at USF. The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are both in my top 10 favorite films of all time and the fact that Cameron and Schwarzenegger and everyone else, even Stan Winston, returned to work on it... UGH! So good! Miss it beyond belief and no matter what replaces it it'll never be topped. RIP T2 3-D

    • @ThemeParkHistory
      @ThemeParkHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! This attraction really was the definition of "if you want something done right, do it yourself", as Cameron was really hands on to make sure the sure was just as good as the first two movies. Here's hoping that when the next Terminator movie will be great with Cameron back in control! And you're right, I feel bad for whatever replaces T2 3D, as it's going to be near impossible to top it!

  • @failtolawl

    The big problem with Universal right now is that they really have released far too many terrible movies in the past 10 years. So all the movie rides are based on uninteresting and most likely poorly thought out themes. They have only like 2 decent universes to work with.

    • @ThemeParkHistory
      @ThemeParkHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's probably a blessing in disguise to be honest. If Van Helsing was successful at the box office we would have had an attraction based on that film instead of Harry Potter.
      But you're right, things like the Dark Universe they tried to set up with new Mummy movie flopped so bad they've already thought about dropping it all together.

    • @toplaycool21
      @toplaycool21 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also, movies like Back to the Future, Jaws, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, King Kong and Terminator (The first two films) still have relevance to this day. Even Transformers is considered dated by comparison because the Michael Bay films were nothing ground breaking. Sure, Harry Potter is good but the newest attractions do not hold up to Universal's past. Fast and Furious, while a popular franchise, the ride is mediocre. Who knows if Men in Black, E.T. The Mummy and Shrek will be leaving Universal because those franchises are considered 'old.' Now that Disney owns Simpsons, they could also leave Universal. I heard they might build a Jason Bourne ride, but even that franchise has died out so too little too late. Universal Pictures needs to come up with a game plan on creating new franchises that can bring audience interests.

    The part of this show that I loved the most was Kimberly Duncan -- each actress put her own spin on the character's personality...she could be mean, sweet, evil, arrogant, burly, meek, intelligent, ditzy, etc. I watched the show multiple times and she was never the same character twice.

    Possibly my favourite theme park attraction ever, perhaps tied with the Indiana Jones ride. Such a shame that it's closed everywhere except in Osaka. I think this attraction is one of the things that solidified my love for movies. There's such an emphasis on storytelling in the ride experience, and towards the end I even felt a little emotional. An ingenious concept and excellent presentation.

    I remember going to this attraction in Orlando in the 90s when I was little and loving it. It's a shame it's gone from the American parks.
    I'm glad that Osaka still has it! I just went there last month, and it's still a very popular ride. I'm not sure how the visuals held up in the states, but while the queue line videos are dated the actual 3D effects in the show are sharp and crisp. When I went to USJ in 2015, they still had the Back to the Future ride, and THAT ride's visuals aged really badly. Shame. Hopefully the Terminator ride stays for several more years to come.
    Also, I have to say that the Japanese pre-show hosts are the best of all the parks. High-energy, engaging, and more than a touch sinister, they're hilarious to watch even if I can't quite keep up with Japanese.

    I saw this show in 2000 or 2001 in Hollywood. I remember going into the gift shop right outside the exit of the show seeing full size T-800 endo skeletons on display of which Universal were selling. I don't remember if the T-800's were screen used but they looked bad ass and I really wanted one and had no idea of a price for one. I imagine now they go for stupid money.

    This was one of the best Theme Park shows ever, probably the best. The only other I can even say is almost as good is Finding Nemo the Musical or temporary shows that changed a lot over the years Like Bill and Ted. Another great video btw, the length and quality of your videos is impressive as is how fast you release them.

    My visit to universal studios Florida was in 2016 and without doubt is the best theme park I have ever experienced. However was just a bit late in catching the rides for back to the future and jaws(2of my favourite movies of all time) but was chuffed and surprised that the t2 ride /show was still there and I loved it and had that 90s nostalgic feel about it. Glad I got to see it before it closed but can understand the need for universal to update the park. What has taken place of the t2 show now?

    • @ThemeParkHistory
      @ThemeParkHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it gets enough credit on how well put together it was, along with the blend of live action and 3D which wasn't really a thing back when it opened. Am I wrong in saying that whatever replaces it is going to have a hard time topping T2:3D? Revenge of the Mummy has been added to the list, thank you for your suggestion Tisha!

      USH doesn’t have much land/space for attractions since it’s a working movie studio, so they are quick to close things down. Plus, when I worked there in the early 2000s when they were owned by GE rather than Comcast, the rumor was that the park didn’t make much money. BTW, is you look around closely at the Simpson ride in Hollywood you’ll notice it’s the same tech (and plot) as BTF-at least it was when it first opened n 2008.

    Loved this show growing up, but one thing that always bothered me was that you were part of the show, then suddenly, you're watching the show... then back into being part of it. That kinda breaks immersion overall.
    Can you do Star Tours, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and the Universal Studios Hollywood Tram Tour???

    • @ThemeParkHistory
      @ThemeParkHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually thought that the appeal of the show, it was one of the first live action/3D shows to be put together. I understand what you mean through, if you're trying to follow along and it keeps switching every few minutes it becomes annoying.

      Theme Park History oh definitely loved the transitions from screen to live action. From the T-1000 jumping off the screen and even the “Ahnuld” T-800 and his motorcycle. Amazing stunt work too. I hope something like this pops up in the near future but is even more immersive, making the audience part of the show the entire time.
