Then you can make the brigde straight and cheap, and not worry about the boat destroying it, cause the 2nd car already made it to theother side. Cheating just like a dangling road...

I remember one time punches were thrown at my boss when he told the architect that he was "a privileged piece of shit that was all paper, and no life experiences". Job site drama lol

because you make our jobs hell by trying to make the most ambitious, good-looking designs. If you had to figure out stresses, strains, deflections, structural integrity, durability, etc. all day using a lot of physics and math, you'd understand.
I don't know who said it but I heard a quote once it went something like "Any idiot can build a safe and sturdy bridge it takes an engineer to barely build one"
So here’s a challenge where you can show off you engineering skills. Make a bridge with the highest safety factor you can within the budget. I.e. lowest total stress possible
11:45 is basically the same principle as a cable muscle. but on a larger scale. it's basically 2 dangling bridges, with center tension to keep them straight. quite ingenious if you ask me XD
I think the reason they put the swinging pieces on is to imitate the "bell" going off saying the bridge is lifting. Which most bells here are just giant speakers on each end of the bridge.
I'm a junior in the CE department at my university, and people laugh at me when I tell them I don't have to take dynamics. Like, if it moves you're probably going to prison who cares lol. I understand the hydraulic difficulties.
I work in consulting engineering (do a large amount of collaboration with different architects) and whole heartedly laughed my head off at the architect comment!

well architectural engineers mainly look at an architects design and makes sure it is even remotely possible to build structurally sound
