I think the reason they put the swinging pieces on is to imitate the "bell" going off saying the bridge is lifting. Which most bells here are just giant speakers on each end of the bridge.

My first job was an electrician's apprentice. My bosses would get into heated arguments with various architects over common-sense vs. aesthetics. I remember one time punches were thrown at my boss when he told the architect that he was "a privileged piece of shit that was all paper, and no life experiences". Job site drama lol

Hey Matt, I haven't thought about that before, but the one from 15:17 is probably tieing the cars together, so the first one pulls the second one. Then you can make the brigde straight and cheap, and not worry about the boat destroying it, cause the 2nd car already made it to theother side. Cheating just like a dangling road...

well architectural engineers mainly look at an architects design and makes sure it is even remotely possible to build structurally sound
@@alechamilton1864 not really, most of the time architects have to plan the engineering too. All the maths is then done by an engineer
@@alechamilton1864 Exactly for example in a house in general we do all the engineering and leave it to the engineer to check, but when things get complicated, architects don't have the ability to calculate, like a bridge or dams, in this part we only know the concepts.

Honestly I look forward to seeing the most expensive designs as much or more than the cheapest, some of them are just so damn creative and impressive from a technical perspective! Shmojelfed is a goddamn mad scientist with those hydraulics that fold the entire bridge into itself.

Lot of fun with problem solving and optimizations, and then judging the hell out of hanging bridges and unnecessarily architect-ified designs. Nothing better. Maybe if you put a blurry knob bridge in every thumbnail? For a company that loves to demonetize for every tiny transgression, they seem to love promoting videos with big censors and blurs slapped across their thumbnails even more. No, because he was looking at practical ways to make it function.
An architect designs for appearance, and then lets the engineers figure out how to make it functional.
@@ke6gwf But he didn't take the obvious and tested route for no other reason than he wanted to design something fancy (in however way you apply the word). The expected and practical solution was stepped over.
As a former architect, I can attest, that’s exactly what I would do.

because you make our jobs hell by trying to make the most ambitious, good-looking designs. If you had to figure out stresses, strains, deflections, structural integrity, durability, etc. all day using a lot of physics and math, you'd understand.

What this game misses, imo, is that forcing a cylinder to extract is less complicated. The way you implement hydraulics should affect budget and reliability in this game i believe

7:06 that's a lift bridge! We got a pretty famous one over in Duluth, really needed due to the bridge going over the entrance into the port, so that the huge lake freighters can go in and out without issue.
I love that you're not afraid of showing people that other designs may be better than what you made but you also make sense of why your design is good. This is true creator content and it's more than most could ever say.

Yeap, as a civil engineering major, I can tell you that the reason civils dislike architects is because architects (while they are just doing their job) make the job of an engineer much harder. This is because the architects only design how structures look, not how to actually keep the thing standing, while also figuring out the minimum number of resources used to lower the cost of construction. The architects ambition for how they want a structure to look just straight up makes a civils job a living nightmare.

The same goes for bad engineers that think a building will be way stronger if you put 2 pillars in the middle of a small bedroom.
Don't share angst among professionals: engineers and architects are stronger together. 💪

if you need something low cost and maintenance, something that will do the job and nothing more, something dull, simple and ugly, you call a civil engineer. If you want to build something that does the job and gets protected and visited several centuries later, you call an architect. Most civil engineers are just not interested in spending time to create something sophisticated, they just think like "well instead of that i could just do this and that and booom job is done! " and they just want to bounce off to grab a beer or something. On the other hand an architect will consider everything from the history, culture, beauty, contrast with the surrounding structures..................................... the list and the head sctraching goes on forever but he comes up with something like Viaduc de Millau. Then it leads to a bunch of civil engineers finding it pointless and they start bashing about they could fix it for less than half price and time.. blah blah blah..
Aldar Headquarters in Abu Dhabi is a great example to this whole conflict. The prince or whoever it was organised a competition and he chose the round design and no one had the authority to disagree. It was going to get built period. The point was building something to put the city on the map. Not the tallest or biggest or any of that but something which was unique. That design which looks like a coin standing on its side was really unique so that is why it was chosen. When it came to building it, it became the problem of a bunch of engineers. Construction engineers, civil engineers, meteorologists.. even freaking aerodynamics engineers from different industries were involved. I am pretty sure they would have loved to build a stupid box and get done with it but then such a unique structure would never exist. I am kinda both, studied physics (yeah it is a stemfield subject but whatever these engineers are learning comes from physics) and architecture, besides i love all sorts of engineering, i love smart brains figuring out smart solutions to complex issues. However i really don't like or find it funny at all when i see some lazy ass engineer bitching about architects. The best architect is the one who is also an engineer and the best engineer is the one who is also a designer, not a d-head who would never take a route which is slightly longer from A to B but full of scenic landscape compared to the most direct yet boring route.
I don't like bridges, I don't like civil engineering, I don't like architecture, I don't know what this game is, I don't know who this guy is. Have I watched the whole video ? Yes. Will I watch more like this ? Yes. Might install this game lol.

Off-topic but I thought this would make somebody’s day: I was going outside to go throw some trash away it was night time I took the trash into the trash bin too nasty looking raccoons pop out and they make the most demonic creature sounds, what are them ran away under the giant trashcan with his red eyes staring back at me and the other one walked closer while doing a t, and I’m not stupid I realized “oh Frick that’s its warning sign might as well back up” I had my sandals on and he started charging me I grabbed on my sandals somehow used it to distract him by whacking him in the face with it, he retreated grab my sandals and escaped
