Due to popular demand here is Huey 509 doing what she does best, making lots of noise with her enormous rotoblades. Nothing added and nothing taken away just the natural sound of this iconic machine.
No matter the model, it's the sound that makes this masterpiece feel so good inside. I salute you Huey! Thank you for all the lives you saved and sacrificed.
@N6600 On the roof there are the original aerials but the those pointing forwards above the windscreen and underneath the chin are wire cutters. I hope that solves the puzzle.
TERRIFIC CHOPTER!! FOR ME THE BEST HELICOPTER SAVED MANNY LIFES IN VIETNAM WAR. YET OUR DAYS DON T FORGET THIS CHOPTER!! IT S "ICONO" THE MORE FAMOUS NICKNAME HUEYYYYYY .
This movie is great for 3 reasons: 1) This is about THE helicopter ever made 2) The cameraman knew how to handle a camera 3) No stupid music was added afterwards, like in a lot of other youtube movies, ruining the whole idea Nice Job man ! Lt.Col.C.
The best music is the unique sound of this helicopter and its turbine starting. I am a fan of this helicopter and I wish to have the chance to fly with some day.
yup got my Logitech Z-2300's blastin on this one ,hope my vietnam vet neighbor does get flashbacks from this ;) ,I wanna an audio copy to play on my way to work
from someone who loves helicopters, but has only few ideas about its mechanics, what are those small pointy things protruding from the roof on the front? are those for radar?
Man I remember when I was like 12 13 years old I was soo obessed with the Huey. Its still my favorite helicopter. Its just so beautiful and the sound is music to my ears
After getting home from Vietnam I realized there was one sound of war that I actually missed. That was the sound of the "Huey" aka "Dust-off." I commonly describe the Huey to people not familiar with it, as the "Harley Davidson" of Helicopters. Airplane flight is based on aerodynamics that enable the plane to be 'air friendly" by using the existing air patterns that surround it. The Huey, to the contrary; simply beats the air into submission.
The Huey is like the 57 Chevy of helicopters. That sound is so distinct to other helicopters, it's like comparing a Harley Davidson to a Suzuki. The only thing missing is Ride of the Valkyries.
one day i would become a pilot also,if i have the freedom to choose what helicopter i will choose this helicopter,.its just awesome,it is the most successful helicopter at all times,in korea, and in vietnam,,.i wont forget to pray to GOD that on the future i would be a successful pilot.
I plan on joining the military, but I can just imagine being shot at or somthing and hearing 20 or 30 of those in the distance, the watching the enemy shit themselves. Haha
Huey 509 isn't any louder than a D model but the sound is affected by several factors including the main rotor pitch, air speed and cloud cover (reflected sound) to name just a few. H1HU
Chrger66 welcome home. Great that you have found this video. I'm not sure if you are aware but a bunch of 129th'ers get together at 129th.net if you introduce yourself on the Flight Log you might come across some names you know. H1HU.
I would just like to say that the huey is what got me in to flying, and what is helping inspire me to become a helicopter pilot in the military. Still debating on air force or army yet...
Outstanding video. The icon of the skies is glorified in this video. My passion to own and fly one is greater than any desire known. The look, the sound, the memories of flying in this marvel icon of rotor power only makes me crave to own one. I'l sell my house tomorrow to own one. Just need a tatts win, so anyone with the winning numbers. I'll be glad to take you on a joy flight or 3.
just beautifull, close your eyes and your back there..40 years on..
Definitely one of the top Huey videos on youtube.

The distinctive sound is called flapping and best appreciated on helicopters with two heavy rotor blades. I love Hueys...
You know that sound anywhere. Only one helicopter in the world makes that sound.

The Huey dosn't actually fly, it beats the hell out of the air to lift off. Nothing beats the sound of a Huey.

@AmericanelST205 - Me too!! :D
