  • This video shows how I prepare and rig my Northeaster Dory for a new season. This is what I do once a year before the season starts and it takes me a few hours. Once the boat is rigged, it only takes 5-10 minutes in the marina to get it ready for sailing.

Thanks for posting this! Just days ago I bought a Northeaster Dory from its original homebuilder and this will be a huge help in getting ready for the first time out.

Congrats on your NE Dory purchase. I'm glad the video was helpful. I think NE Dory is a fantastic boat for daily adventures. How do you like it so far?

@@PJMoskal final got it in the water yesterday and all went smoothly, thanks in no small part to your clear explanations. It felt great and can’t wait to get back out there to keep on refining skills. Please do keep posting!

Hi @ PJMoskal -- How do you like your new approach to rigging the lug with a continuous snaking line? I am about to rig my lug sail for the first time and am curious if you could say anything about the pros/cons to your current approach vs tying each grommet individually. Thank you!

I like it so far. It feels more responsive to the wind and the sail fills nicely. The individual lines were fine too but felt a bid rigid and less flexible in terms of distribution of the forces made by the wind. The difference is subtle but I can feel it. When you snake the line you have to keep it loose and let it work in the wind. Tying each grommet individually is good if you want to tie the sail to the spars more rigidly. I hope this helps, good luck!
