Can we all just sit for a minute and really embrace the fact that Snape was the bravest man alive in this movie. From a young boy with a messed up childhood due to his vicious parents, who was friends with the only girl he loved and felt a connection with, to her being taken away from him by the Gryffindor house and having to deal with the fact that the man who singlehandedly bullied him on a day to day basis, humiliated him for no logical reason and proceeds to marry the one friend, the one girl who he ever loved - to regretting an insult directed at Lily as soon as it slipped his tongue, and being forced to join a group of evil wizards so that he may feel a sense of accomplishment, but it never stopped him from loving Lily, he then proceeds to deal with the fact that the one girl he ever loved will perhaps die the next day and relies solely on dumbledore to protect them, they then die and their son who looks exactly like the bully from his past becomes intrusive to his day to day lives. Just imagine this for a second. Having to deal with ALL of that, whilst simultaneously working to protect hogwarts, harry and dumbledore from evil, working ALONGSIDE evil, the evil who killed the one girl he ever loved and living with the burden of having to stare at the boy who reminds him of it all. That boy who reminds him of torture, bullied, the house that took lily away him, this boy reminds him of everything, including the eyes of his lover. Just imagine staring at that face for the next 7 years or so. You have to be brave to be standing on your feet to have to deal with all that simultanously . God speed Alan Rickman and RIP Severus Snape.
Nobody’s talking about when Snape didn’t even hesitate with shielding the three of them from a werewolf, that shows how much he actually cares about them
It's even better when you realize that Lupin almost killed him in wolf form when he was a teenager after Sirius played a prank on him. He only survived because James saved him, but that shit would've been terrifying, yet he threw himself in between the wolf and the kids just to protect them!

I have a crush on him and he's older than my grandma... I am one really weird person... Edit: I know he was 38 when he died in the books, but I was reffing to Alan's age and Snape's birth date. Although, for whatever reason I convinced myself he was born in 1950 not 1960, Alan was born in 1946. My grandma was born in 1952. 😂😂😂 I can see where the confusion was coming from. Also, Holy hell it's been 4 years since I've wrote this comment xD I didn't even realise how popular it got. Glad I found some mutual here.
+Annie xD You're not weird. It's perfectly natural to have a crush on someone who has that certain "it" factor no matter what age they or you are. I felt the same way about Cary Grant when I was young.
The Marauders teased him by calling him a Snivellus Snape, Bellatrix, McGonagall, Harry called him a coward, but Severus was the bravest man in this story. Among other things, he saved Draco from death.
And saved dracos soul, having his own ripped apart by killing dumbledore instead... knowing that he was sentencing himself to an everlasting purgatory... he breaks my heart
Did he really go to limbo I mean he did a lot of messed up stuff but he also did a lot of things for love. I mean if Dumbledore can get a pass why not him?
When Harry didn't want to eat and had a bad mood, Snape came over saying that the upcoming Quidditch match should be no problem compared to the troll. That was a subtile motivation from Snape.
Snape's introduction in the potions lesson was perfect. It portrayed him as an intelligent but nasty man. This is exactly what the scene wanted us to think to begin with, but once his entire story is told you no longer think of him as a nasty man but one that has suffered unimaginable pain and suffering.
“Over the years I’ve played my part well, so well that I’ve even managed to fool one of the greatest wizards of all time” what’s funny is that he’s not actually lying when he says that, to them he means dumbledore but to us and himself he means Voldemort
When everyone says to Harry "you have your mothers eyes" its cool and all. But when Snape says it to him its like a comfort because he feels like he is looking for the last time at the same eyes of the only woman he loved. For him its a comfort that before he dies he can see those eyes again....ok im crying😭😭😭😭😭
because he was such a rare actor his parts In this movie was also rare like I said I wish they added more parts with him in the movie he was such a good actor
Watching all these clips it makes me think Snape was always teaching Harry, passing on knowledge in one way or another. Harry gets the idea to use a Bezoar from Snape's potion's book but you can see Snape repeatedly tells Harry about them in his earlier years. He specifically runs a lesson on Animagi and Werewolves as a warning to Harry about Lupin and Sirius (He thought Sirius was a bad guy at this point) and demands he do homework on them as it was important, he tells him about the dangers of a truth potion, teaches him occlumency (Even though it was Dumbledore's orders) he still agrees because he knows its a good idea and tries to stress to him that he needs to get tougher if he's to fight off Voldemort. Snape was the best teacher Harry actually ever had.
Yeah it’s very telling how Harry refers to the potion’s book as both a friend and a guide before he finds out Snape wrote all the notes. I think he also learns the Expelliarmus spell from Snape which becomes his signature spell.
@@eels3658 Adding your point: up until 6th year they never used the textbook in Potions. Snape always put the instructions on the blackboard meaning he most likely had been deviating from the textbook the entire time. That’s why Hermione started to do so badly. She was following the book’s instructions, not Snape’s.
Even as a kid before I got into Harry Potter at 15, I was always mesmerized by Snape. Out of all the characters there, he always caught my attention. Little did I know I would soon fall for this elegant handsome man
kitty32000 same. At five, not knowing anything about the series or the actor, I was always mesmerized by Snape in the movies. Alan Rickman was the best actor for this character.
Seriously i would say is that he only remembered that is because he was humiliated so much. had snape thought them the right way as he should have .he would have learned it in the last five years at Hogwarts but snape seems to have forgotten teaching in favor of insulting his own class
Severus Snape has been my favorite character for years,it was easily seen how much he hated harry and why..he looked like his father but stairing back at him was the eyes of the woman he loved..beautifully heartbreaking
Thank you for this...Never can get enough of Rickman's performance in this role. His physicality, voice, line readings, all of it created a character even richer and more complex, I think, than even the books portray. He truly made this part his own. RIP, Sir Alan Rickman.
Snape's if not the most, then in the top 3 of my ultimate favourite characters in literature... I could talk about him for hours, not joking. His story and his background is so real and so tragic. Domestic violence, all the bullying and abuse, no support system, nobody who'd stand up for him from such an early age. He truly is the half-blood prince, metaphorically as well; nothing's just good or bad, all the emotion he felt of course must've come out somewhere and the only way he knew how to express it was through bitterness and anger aimed inappropriately at innocent children (e.g. Neville), while saving Harry's life constantly. Dumbledore, the closest person Snape had, ultimately used him as well; using Lily as a tool to control Snape. Actually wasn't it for James and Sirius, I believe Harry would've had a great relationship with Snape (regarding also their patronuses); their similarities, what they've been through, things that connected them more than they'd ever imagined (I don't think even Harry ever found out about Snape's childhood). 10+ years I'm living with the story and it will just never stop hurting (also multiplied by Rickman's brilliant portrayal of Snape, we are so lucky to have him as Snape... well had... Snape died and it broke my heart, but then Alan died and a small, tiny part of me died with him).
Snape definitely learned the difference between a Werewolf, a Metamorphmagus, an Animagus whose chosen form is a wolf, and also an actual wolf when he was a student and now he's teaching every Hogwarts student this important lesson as well. Werewolves are not born nor are they learned. They come into existence when a person is bitten by one and Dittany and silver are not administered early enough to possibly prevent the victim from turning. Wolfsbane potion can't prevent their transformation, and sugar and wolfsbane (also called monkshood and aconite) don't mix. What wolfsbane potion can do is help the werewolf to keep their lucidity during their transformation. Animagi can choose only one form and take a special potion every day before a lightning storm. The snag is, they're also required to register their status with The Ministry of Magic or risk being sent to Azkaban. Metamorphmagi are born that way, not made and not learned, and while Animagi are required to register their status with The Ministry of Magic, nothing is shown about whether or not Metamorphmagi are required to do the same.
That's what's the most intimidating about him: speaking slow and low, just as Batman. A true authority never raises it's voice or repeat what was said. They say once, slowly and low... and people *obey*
0:04 that moment when you realize that Snape is the first person who noticed that something is wrong with Quirrel. What are the chances that Snape knew about Potter's invisibility cloak.
I don't know exactly how Snape found out about The Invisibility Cloak. All Snape had to do was follow Harry's footprints in the snow at Hogsmeade even if The Marauders' Map decided to sass Snape. Still, he definitely knew Quirrel wasn't himself, hence, his counter-spell against Quirrel's hexing Harry's brand-new Nimbus 2000.
Knowing how Severus was bullied by James, it really is remarkable how much he helped and realistically knew Harry was gonna be the goat of the wizard stuff. He had to favour Malfoy in order to appease the Death Eaters, but he literally always had faith in Harry. The scene in Deathly Hallows part 1 really solidified it for me. He keeps Harry in the dark about the situation, keeps him hidden from the death eaters and is forced to kill possibly the only friend he had left. All because he trusted that one friend and loved Harry’s mother. Not to mention he probably read about the Japanese 1000 cuts execution method and based an entirely new spell around it for kicks.
It's very impressive to see that Alan Rickman had maintained very well on the consistency of Snape's character from the first film towards the end. Recalling the first time seeing his true distress and sadness on his memory scenes that explained everything about his movements back on the theaters... I wasn't shocked to see how suddenly different his appearance was nor cringe watching the true side of his story because Alan Rickman succeeded on making audience deeply moved by it. For me, Snape is a character that's complex, well choreographed, performed and developed so that we can truly believe in his character and relate to. Given that his well performed unique character gave a huge impact for us. A very iconic and beautiful character ever existed he was. RIP Severus Snape & Alan Rickman
As soon as I had finished last book I began to reread the saga again. Just to check that J.K. Rowling knew Snape's story from the very first book and didn't invent it in the last one.
It shows all the times Snape was trying to help students learn because working with reality warping abilities by just saying some words and swishing your hands might be dangerous
Professor Severus Snape was introduced as an antagonist but turns out to be a hero. He literally risked and sacrificed his own safety just to protect Harry and everybody. He became a double-agent, as per Dumbledore's command , in order to ensure everyone's safety. He remained loyal to Dumbledore and the Order. When Dumbledore told Snape he must be the one to kill him, he was hesitant, you could tell... he did it anyways, he followed Dumbledore's instructions even when he knew he would probably be hated for it and it would forever change his life, it cost him his reputation and dignity. He spent his whole life protecting Harry despite the fact that he hated his father(James), he didn't let his own selfish desires get in the way of helping his allies and doing the right thing. “Snape did horrible things when he was younger, but when Lily died in the hands of the Dark Lord, he vowed to protect Harry at any and all costs. Harry would have never made it past his years if it wasn't for Snape, and they may have never been free from Voldemort if it wasn't for Snape's efforts.” In fact, It was Snape who begged Dumbledore to protect and hide Lily, James and Harry when Voldemort plans to kill Harry when he was still a baby. He was also the one who warned Dumbledore about Voldemort's plan. "Snape had a good heart. He did some bad things in his life and struggled with his dark side, but he didn't let that overwhelm him. He embodied our feelings of jealousy and anger, but he did something a lot of us couldn't do... He didn't let any of the accusations, the doubts, hate, or cruelty stop him from doing what is right even if it would cost him his life." Many remained blind to his loyalty, service and honor to the good side, especially to Harry and the Order. He was misunderstood, doubted, and hurt yet he died doing the right thing. He proved that love is indeed eternal and powerful, as he had 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 loved Lily all this time, despite the circumstances. His love for her made him stronger and better, in spite of the horrible things he had done before. Above all, he showed us the importance of loyalty, he showed how our perceptions can be flawed, than anyone can choose to change and do the right thing, to be brilliant at what you love and how life is unfair. Apart from all of these, there's still a lot more. That's how brave, cunning, wise and loyal he is. Well actually, these words are not enough to define his intentions and character. And yes, that's Professor 𝑺𝑬𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑼𝑺 𝑺𝑵𝑨𝑷𝑬 𝚢𝚊'𝚕𝚕.
People *always* thought he was *up to something* but *after all this time* , he was the real hero. Don't believe me? You can always check your book.... *Turn to page 3 9 4.* (Sorry but I tried; RIP Severus Snape-Alan Rickman the bravest character of all time)
When he walks away after saying "Be careful Potter. People will think you are ...up to something," is the most intimidating thing I've seen in movies. Add the music and I was so freaked out as a kid. One of the best characters in the whole franchise!
I really like it at 20:34 when Dumbledore says that Harry had quick thinking to use the bezoar and you see Snape surprised that Harry remembered. And a bit proud x)
If I had the choice of picking from either James Potter or Severus Snape. well, I would of choose Severus Snape. James Potter wasn't such a nice person when he was at Hogwarts. he was a jerk.
Jose Ceniceros maybe not horrible but he still made Harry and Neville suffer for everything that wasn't their fault. He brought his hatred for James on Harry and hated Neville because he could have been the chosen one (and Lily wouldn't have died). I know Snape suffered, but it wasn't their fault
So was Snape. Let's not forget that he also hexed James when he had the chance to. He called his best friend a racial slur. Then proceeded to join the people that killed said best friend. Didn't give a damn about James or a fucking INFANT dying as long as Lily (the woman who wanted nothing to do with him) lived. Made Harry's life hell, yeah, he was James' son but that is no reason for a grown man to bully a child! And Neville, Hermione and Ron! Tf did they ever do him?! He cost Remus his job! Snape. Was. The. Jerk.
The world needs more actors like him who aren't just capable of following the script but are fantastic at using the appropriate facial expressions to suit the characters personality and how they feel at the time . Not enough actors and actresses have mastered both aspects of their craft especially not American actors and actresses
who ever made this video, THANK YOU SO MUCHHH!!!!!! 😍 Snape is really the only reason why I ever watched harry potter, this video saves from waisting time hahaha

Snape's introduction in the potions lesson was perfect. It portrayed him as an intelligent but nasty man.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@eels3658 Adding your point: up until 6th year they never used the textbook in Potions. Snape always put the instructions on the blackboard meaning he most likely had been deviating from the textbook the entire time.

Plus "I'm the Halfblood Prince"
@@camzy3003 Obviously.
What-
Snape's if not the most, then in the top 3 of my ultimate favourite characters in literature...
I love the fact that snape made the students learn about how to recognize an animagus and a werewolf incase someone run into one. He's smart af
I can't believe this is how I spend my time but there's no way I'd rather spend it.

0:04 that moment when you realize that Snape is the first person who noticed that something is wrong with Quirrel. What are the chances that Snape knew about Potter's invisibility cloak.
He likely knew James Potter owned it.
probably snape was the one who gave it to him, "use it well"
@@alexlaurence No Dumbledore gave it to him, James Potter gave it to Dumbledore before his death
In the books Dumbledore asked Snape to keep an eye on Quirrell, so he knew something was up aswell.

Facts
He's just- ridiculously hot.
Yes
True dat. Rickman made Snape look so handsome. I agree on your statement.
And what you have said is true
Harry would have never made it past his years if it wasn't for Snape, and they may have never been free from Voldemort if it wasn't for Snape's efforts.”
In fact, It was Snape who begged Dumbledore to protect and hide Lily, James and Harry when Voldemort plans to kill Harry when he was still a baby.
He didn't let any of the accusations, the doubts, hate, or cruelty stop him from doing what is right even if it would cost him his life."
Many remained blind to his loyalty, service and honor to the good side, especially to Harry and the Order.
Seriously, I will never get tired of talking about his character.

Jose Ceniceros you are officially a disgrace to the Harry Potter community get out just get out my God
Snape. Was. 12:57 "The use of it on a student is... regrettably forbidden." Lol one of my favorite lines 😂
Interesting that Umbridge used it all up on students, being that it's forbidden.

His pauses are so great and suspenseful even if you know exactly what he is going to say.
Yes, most of us are knowing every line and we still watching it over and over again.
Seriously… I always got this weird feeling in the back of my neck when he would speak with some pausing thrown in. I just barely got done watching the last movie and I can’t believe I missed this until now.

feel sad for him here. At least in the previous years, he still has Dumbledore to confide some things and talk
But after he killed Dumbledore, there seems to be no one he can talk to in Hogwarts anymore
