    Great video. I’m a Newcastle boy, but haven’t lived there in over 20 years. It’s amazing to see the changes that have happened. It’s no longer the grimy industrial town it used to be

      No just a crappy one that removes a train line and has people that think a virtual abandoned virtually empty struggling shopping area is progress when it’s replaced by dog box sized apartments. And that grimy town had well paying jobs replaced now by low paying service and hospitality jobs. Apparently that’s progress for millennials?

    I used to visit Newcastle quite a bit during the 1980s, and had a lot of fun there during my younger days. I haven’t been back there in about thirty years and it’s changed so much that I don’t even recognize it. It would be interesting to go back one of these days

    Well Newcastle will be the first city connected to Sydney via fast rail if the governments pledge of half a billion dollars goes through.
    In a few short decades Newcastle could be looking at doubling its population as Sydneysiders chase the dream of their own home at affordable prices and cutting the trip back to Sydney to 40 minutes each way

    • @BigJayDogAdventures
      @BigJayDogAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes it looks logical to connect the cities via fast rail, great comment 👍

  • @sama7666

    hey mate, love the videos of Newy. Do you think Newcastle will gain a large skyline soon? I've been following some new projects and it looks like Newcastle West (near the interchange) has a 100m tower coming up and a few ones close to 100m in development. Very exciting stuff to see Newy growing.

    • @BigJayDogAdventures
      @BigJayDogAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I think so especially if the fast rail is built

    • @sama7666
      @sama7666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BigJayDogAdventures That would be the dream. I took the train to Sydney on the Weekend. 3hrs to get from Newcastle to Olympic Park. If fast rail makes it a quick commute the potential growth for Newcastle will be huge. People won't have to live in Sydney to work there.

      Not trams but a light rail travelling only a few stops to top of town, where the train used to go. So we ripped up the train line and put in another one. Money well spent ? Debatable

    I'm novacastrian...Newcastle has changed a lot but no government want to invest in Newcastle because it is a safe labor seat. So infrastructure in Sydney and Wollongong is better. But I wouldn't move there.

      We fought it but lost. Nothing like spending money on ripping up rail to put in another rail, just so travellers can hop off one train and finish their journey on another for a few stops.

      And can just imagine what it would of been like had the line been cut at Broadmeadow would of been absolute Kaos and a lot worse than what it is now.What has been done now with all the buildings and rejuvenation that has been built could of been done without the line been cut

  • @xr6lad

    Typical Australian. Who in the 21st century removes a rail line from the central downtown and replaces it with a crppy single line tram. And then expects the down town to be revitalised.
