This noodle soup isn’t Vietnamese sister. Maybe people are confused since it’s where some of the Vietnamese food stalls are. And we have a lot of Khmers living in Vietnam (former Cambodia) so often dishes can be confused for another. My grandma’s side is from Khmer Krom and they said many dishes that they refer to as “Vietnamese” are actually by Khmers with Vietnamese nationality or those who live on or by the border. I am familiar with both sides and this dish is not Vietnamese, even if it’s prepared and/or enjoyed by other viets. Some similarities but that’s expected with neighboring countries. However, this is more Khmer than Viet. 🙂
