Great updates Mike! The oaks have some great future potential… especially the first 2. The pruning on the first oak was Nigel Saunders level. 🤣

Nice oaks with a lot of potential. Enjoyed this episode. But like the last tree: why don't you use some wire on the bottum (straight) part of the tree and bend it in a nice shape? This would make the tree look even more interesting and it is now still flexible enough to bend.

Thought about it but I am notorious for not taking the wires off in time. I why away from using them as much as possible.

Just a video I needed to get inspired. Started some oaks last year from seed so am praying they survive the winter on my balcony🙏. They are european oak from nature and think some american oak (red or white) from park trees. If they die I can follow yours lol, will try again tho. Cheers🍻

Oaks are pretty tough from what I'm seeing so far. They tough out the winter like champs. Good luck on yours!

The first tree grew back pretty well, did you fertilize?

Not much to look at right now. It got some of that powdery mildew stuff that I'm trying to treat with neem oil. Once that clears up, I'll do an update.

I might have missed it if you said in the video, but what species of oak are these?

Not 100% sure but I think they might be bur oaks.

That’s hilarious, you said your maple died after you cut it, gee, did you leave any branches on it? Lmao

Not sure. What part did I mention that? I'll go back and see which one I was talking about.

Question for ya, I started some acorns I collected last fall and I have seen that they grew roots but upward leaves, think they did that on purpose and will shoot up this spring? I'm not too familiar with oaks yet.

Honestly I am not sure. Out of the 3 oaks I am growing from seed, they all 3 have a mind of their own and are doing wildly different things. SOmetimes I think they dont even care what I want! lol

Nice! How old are the trees? What is the reason that you trim the tips of the remaining branches? Thanks!

I think there were about five years old at this point. Or close to it. I trim the tips of the branches so that they will split and grow two branches and create more ramification.
