I sometimes have pictures in my head that move like this animation when I go to bed. They are not dreams exactly because I am still sort of awake when I have them, only when I'm completly relaxed yet alert is when I have a surreal vivid experence like this.
My boyfriend has a memory of seeing this animation alongside another very similar one for the same song in a contest, where his class were some of the people who voted on the winner. Don't suppose anyone knows the other video, if it's up anywhere? This was in Derry in Northern Ireland btw - thank you!!!
A Danse Macarbe is a device used to remind us all of the inevitability of death..as the end of this wonderful cartoon demonstrates! She thought it was all just a dream, but no, there was Death at the end just biding his time..fabulous music and brilliantly realised in this animation!! Five stars!
THANK YOU for uploading this. I have been looking for a well done animated interpretation of this piece forever. I've only ever seen one other, and it was stop motion and had a poem in it. As an animation student, this is the most inspirational thing I have seen in a while.
on halloween i hade this song playing on my ipod in my pocket really quietly...it freaked out my friends 'cause i didn't tell them and i didn't turn it on until we left the house :)
this was briliant! I love this musical piece so much. It's so beautiful. This video was amazing too. I remember first hearing this in 3rd grade. I remember mostly everyone being weirded out but I instantly fell in love with it. :D I remember we got a few worksheets with very poor quality grainy drawings of them of images portrayed in the song, and Death looks much different. I think there was a video too, but not this one. Death had a black shroud. Anyone know where I could find it?
Saw this back when studying at university in 1997. I used to order a DVD called 'Shorts' which would be a compilation of short filmmakers. I remember watching this transfixed, just as I still do today. So many creative choices all coming together in what is still to this day, a perfect artistic achievement. Bravo. It's as fresh today in 2020 as it was in 1996. So impressive and emotional. The lack of cuts means it pulls you towards it from the moment it starts. Exhausting, hypnotic, sensual and haunting. I love this piece of work.
This is simply amazing! I can notice the black frames that were inserted to keep the whole thing a bit more fluid I think it might be because youtube is pushing frames differently but still it's amazing!
Does anyone else think that it's kind of sad to have the realisation that whatever Death kisses must also die? I mean, I guess they could join him in the afterlife, but what if he loved someone so much that he just wanted them to live life and live it to the full, however it would be at the cost of his affection not being able to be displayed through touch.
i have been lookin for this for awhile but this still isnt the right one grrr where is it!!??it was where the boy and the girl skeletons fall in love then fly away in the night
some one help me plz!!! its sorta similer to this one there is one skeleton with a violin but he brings others to life but at the end the sun comes up then they all leave HELP ME PLZ!!

Danse Macabre is just the early romantic version of spooky scary skeletons.
Couldn’t agree more

Very well done! I've always enjoyed this piece and it's nice to see a new animated interpretation of it.
Wasn't this shown on the Public Broadcast Station in America 10+ years ago. If so I have been looking for this piece for AGES!!!

The animation and the music are braided together so beautifully! I adore the Death character. :)
This is wonderfully done! More people should see it.
Loved it!
Simplemente arte.
This took forever to find.
When I go I want it to be like this.
When they look up at the tree and we see him that freaked me out
Great!
ESO FUE GENIAL!!!
simplemente me encanto,
Wow, awesome... I think that this video really describes Dance Macabre, just like Saint Saens imagined it :).
TOO. FUCKING. COOL. FOR. WORDS.
Wow
I imagined it to be more like a skeleton feast with rowdy dancers and clarinets and stuff, not a violin solo, but it's still awesome nonetheless
I like that song
well referenced from the poem that inspired the music
excelente
I was thinking the same thing! :D
!!!!!brava
Amacing piece of art.^^ Don´t see those kind of animations often.

What did it say on the tombstone
WARNING: not recommended for those prone to seizures.
Awesome animation though
Is anyone curious to know the significance of 1797 or what it said on the tombstone

What song is this
this film should be in fantasia..
Yes, it does but I think they named it the "Midnight Dance" because she's having a night time dream of death.
i have been lookin for this for awhile but this still isnt the right one grrr where is it!!??it was where the boy and the girl skeletons fall in love then fly away in the night
Im not either m8 but it's Dase Macabre. There's no "m"
some one help me plz!!! its sorta similer to this one there is one skeleton with a violin but he brings others to life but at the end the sun comes up then they all leave HELP ME PLZ!!
Who saw this from school
nice, but confuse.
The sound effects distract from the music.
Not recommendable when on hallucigenic substances.
3spooky5me
Too fast for my eyes.
Dang! I'm dizzy now! Too much spinning and moving! Enough!
Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre im loving this animation!!
