Hello Dan, Your review really covered everything. Thank you for mentioning not to contaminate the outside of the bag. So many users don't think about that. I say well, if you touch wet paint, and then touch an object, you see the paint. Unfortunately, odors are invisible, but you get the same transmission from odors. Thank you for discussing the closures and life of the closures. We use two different films to make our bags. The body of the OPSAK bag uses an odor barrier film. It has a high heat tolerance, higher than our aLOKSAK as well, and is durable and has 5 layers. When we heat seal the pliable closure to the bag film, we are using a high heat to make the seal connection. Because they are different films, as the pliability of the closure is what makes out zippers airtight and waterproof, we need to make the zippers pliable to make a 100% connection across the entire seal. The Closure and Zipper Tracks are separate. Yes, because they are a softer different film, they will be the first to go. Our bags are being used by K-9 handlers. They have been used by NASA in the spaceships in the toilets. We work with the FBI Hazmat unit for transport and storage of deadly chemicals. I created that bag when I lived in the mountains in Park City, UT. I filled 8 bags with various foods and left them on a trail for over a month. Nothing was ever touched. They have been tested for emissions by MRI Global, an independent company that tests worldwide for government agencies, military, industrial, etc. Thank you for being so thorough! Linda. Owner and founder of LOKSAK.
One point worth mentioning is an Opsak prevents food smells from leeching into your backpack and other gear. After all, what's the point of hanging your food in a bear bag if your backpack, tent, and sleeping bag smell like food, too?
Haha, famous last words, right? :) Glad to hear you haven't had any issues with animals. I also haven't had any problems since using the Opsak (knock on wood!)
Yay! Found the guy I've been looking for! Well I guess I should say content with right person to help me learn all this stuff as I prepare for my first backpacking trip.
Very true. They also make something called aLOKSAK that has the same waterproofing feature minus the odor proofing capabilities. Those bags come in more sizes than the OPSAK. Thanks for watching!
Think about it, if these bags really block odor that good, drug smuggling in general would be buying a lot of them. Having said that I just bought a couple 🤣😂. I don’t think they can hurt !
However, bears have a much better sense of smell than any dog---I see 7 times better than a bloodhound cited by almost everyone. So using a dog is perhaps not the best test for a bear bag. I also wonder about the 'reuseable' thing. Plastic tends to retain odors, so even if you wash it smells probably persist. Including on the outside.
I would've used my bear for the test but he was sleeping 😁 Yeah, totally not-scientific test. Just meant to see if the claim was total BS (if my dog could smell through it, a bear sure as heck can). Overall, I definitely wouldn't view this as a foolproof method to stop bears from getting your food. As I mentioned in the video, it's good insurance when coupled with another proper method of storing your food. And of course, bears aren't the only animals you have to deal with, so it's also good insurance against mice, racoons, etc.
These overpriced bags have no useful warranty and are prone to failure. They're only smell-proof until they fail and then they're no better than a regular freezer bag that costs pennies and is cheaply and easily replaced.

Fantastic point! I'm sure my beloved bacon jerky would saturate my gear with its smoky scent if it weren't for the Opsak.
Hello Dan, thanks for the video! I use the OPSAK with my Ursack. I have not had a issue with animals in my food bag while using both together.
err wait....knock on wood...

I just bought a few,I like your test method so I tried it as well with my pup and it works!
Yay! Found the guy I've been looking for! Well I guess I should say content with right person to help me learn all this stuff as I prepare for my first backpacking trip.
Best of luck on your first trip!
The small opsacks are also great options to keep things like cell phones in to make extra sure they wont get wet.

Lunchbox- classic name for a classic pal! Well done.
I subscribed because of LunchBox - your lovely assistant.
Will this bag be able keep the smell of weed in ?
Hahaahaha
I'm 420% certain it will
She's not a bloodhound, but not a bear either. Which I'm sure you would know by now, has better sense of smell.

And make sure you wash the Tuna Fish residue from your beard!
The dog clinches it!
Like the Smell Test -- Was your Zip=Lock-Bag a Sandwich=Bag Storage-Bag or Freezer-Bag ??? -- Would like to see same Test with a Freezer-Bag ...
It was just a standard sandwich bag
Do not forget to put your trash bag in the bear bag too.
Joe Biden approves these bags as sniff proof.
Will this work with cannabis ?
It should. Bears cant smell food through it, so dogs cant smell bud. Make sure you get the ones that are waterproof AND smellproof
It does ;)

you are trying to test a lok-sak with, what looks like, a silky terrier vs a wild bear? are you mad? gtfoh, mate
I would've tested it against my pet bear, but he's a little camera shy 🐻

You think a gallon size Ziploc would be odor-proof?
Thanks for the confirmation that they’re smell proof (everything works until it fails lol). I’ll be buying one today 😊
