Dillon got called to Topeka, Kansas in order to have to transport another convict to his hanging I think, and Kitty had had it. Due mainly to his job as a U.S. Marshal, the relationship could not go any further than strong infatuation as the show went. If I remember right, Kitty had finally left Dodge for good in the 70s seasons, & not too long after, Amanda Blake wasn't seen at all. All sorts of fans have different interpretations of what they think happened after Matt would have retired.

Matt quit and took off his badge "several" times including once for a friend but never for Ms. Kitty, this always upset me. Ms. Kitty loved him and I believe he loved her....but he did take her for granted.
Matt did take his badge off for Kitty when he went to get the guy that abducted her - tortured her and shot her. He took that badge off and found the guy. The rest is history

However consider this, if I have been "helping" virtually during all these years, once this crime gets resolved, why can I not continue helping (legally, without espionage and rape, of course) while I live where I want to live? If I want to meet you and we both feel like we want to spend time together, it should be NOBODY'S BUSINESS how I live my personal life. I did not go through hell to become someone's prisoner in the end. Yes, it is true. This is in me, this is me.
