  • Welcome to the Reading and Northern’s Iron Horse Ramble Double Header event! This event hasn’t happened since 1988, Featuring the RBMNs beautifully restored Reading T1!
This steam adventure occurred on August 13th, 2022 - Departing Reading Outer Station at 9:00am and to arrive in Jim Thorpe PA.
We were only able to film at a handful of locations due to the massive crowd of fellow rail fans and local traffic infrastructure not intended for high density traffic.
    Enjoy!
    Happy Railroading!

Don't get me wrong, I love our best friends from the British empire. But this right here is exactly why Americans team is so much more fun to watch and enjoy. It is the sound! Those ghostly whistles, screaming defiance against the relentless March of time. They stir the passions of the soul, intern every grown man into a boy again.
Ps is in coach 308. I was there the last time these locomotives double headed, 34 years ago as I write this post. This was truly a magical day!

Definitely agree with ya there! That single chime is definitely a ghostly sound, I’m glad they kept both whistles on her. That’s amazing how that coach was there as well! 🚂💨

One interesting difference between British and American steam is how small British steam locomotives are compared to American ones. Look at a photo of a British engine (like the Flying Scotsman) next to an American one and the difference jumps right out at you.
There were reasons of course, British engines had to operate though much tighter clearances than the American ones did and of course in most cases operated over much shorter distances. And the freight trains weren't (and still aren't) as long.

What an awesome day chasing an awesome train!! 🚂🚂So glad you and Nikki could join me on the adventure!! I'm sorry we missed it at a few of the planned spots, but I've heard a lot of folks saying that between the train's speed and the crazy traffic, they were having a tough time catching it too. I still think we got some great locations, and it was great seeing the views you got. Nikki did a great job with some of the filming too. Hope we get to do it again someday!!

@@NixCrossing Me neither, but as I understand it after this season 425's going to be down for its 1480 hour inspection (It's that amount of run time or 15 years, whatever comes first.) so I'd guess the R&N guys are going to be preoccupied with 425 for however long that takes. If other steam projects are planned (And I can think of a few!) they're going to have to be put on hold.

One of the owners of Reading 2102 Bill Benson passed away last year. He was also the founder of Right of Way Industries and helped restore Reading 2101 and the Freedom Train in the 70s. Also he was good friends with Richard Kughn. Thinking of doing a video of that Right of Way car of mine and dedicating it to him.
