Shark Siren at Muizenberg Beach, Cape Town Travel Video Vlog

- Sometimes, nothing goes according to plan.
We should of been on Table Mountain making a video, but the visibility was down to about 600 meters from sea level so climbing was out out of the question.
Instead, we decided to make a quick "board meeting". The best kind ever, the one that is out at sea, in Muizenberg.
We were rudely interrupted by the shark siren at Muizenberg. The white shark flag was raised and 100+ people had to get out of the water for 20 minutes.
But all in all it was a great day.
Not the paying kind of productive day but life got in the way and that's great.
Sometimes life hands you lemons and you make lemonade.

Great video! I had a close shave once at Muizenburg - we paddled so far our we couldn't hear the siren. After what must have been around 10 mins, we looked back to shore and saw hundreds of people waving at us, and we quickly realised there was a shark in the water. Never paddled so hard in my life

I was in the water on my board at Muizzies once when the siren went off about 2 years ago. Was a scary experience as it was my first time experiencing it and I actually didn't know what the siren was for until I witnessed everyone pulling back to the shore and quickly got a wave back to the beach.
It's amazing how the Muizenberg waves have changed since the sixties, seventies and eighties - they are little baby waves now. In those days, they had to separate the swimmers and the surfers after some nasty accidents. The riptides and currents were very strong, with some massive backwash, and no sharks ever ventured into the wave lines, where it could go from ankle height to over your head in seconds. Many was the time we would brace ourselves against the waves pulling back, our feet sinking deeper into the sand. We were regularly swept under the bathing boxes by monster waves, rolling and tumbling you like a washing machine, that you thought your lungs would burst, and the pleasure of shooting out and grabbing some air, then having to dive back under the next monster! Body surfing was fantastic too - perched on the edge of a six footer, you had to decide whether to pull back, or take that plunge, hoping for an exhilarating ride, and not a faceful of sand! We would eventually stagger out of the water with our costume crotches dragging down with all the sand from being rolled and tossed by the waves!

I went there once and ai went to the top of the hill by the the spotters and we heard the siren and saw a shadow in the water
they always around... but attacks are rare... statistically it's still more dangerous to drive my car than it is to go surfing ;-)
Lots of shadows in the water, but they are not really interested in humans

88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders.

99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." 2 Esdras 2:31
