    These videos are so unique and informative because Aly gives advice on how every individual person can look their best, with explanations for why things look a certain way and how the shapes are perceived. Not once have I seen her advertising a product or brand. Most beauty channels these days are built around reviewing hundreds of skin/hair/makeup products and comparing them, with very little focus on how to optimize the right types for every person's face or body. This channel is amazing, other beauty vloggers should take notes.

    I think for those who have very thin, straight hair, vintage curling methods such as rollers might be helpful. Done right, they can create an insane amount of volume, and unlike heat curls they tend not to fall during the day and they definitely don't flatten out easily. One of the biggest things I've learned from having thin hair is the importance of keeping it as healthy as possible. Not brushing it when wet, not using heat, finding the most light-weight all-in-one hair serums, customizing a perfect volumizing routine including dry shampoo, optimizing my ingredient lists for minimum buildup (sulfate-free, paraben-free, are usually my only priorities, I've seen a noticeable difference in my hair, not everyone has the same experience and for some hair types sulfates can actually be beneficial but for my fine hair that's thin, oily roots but dry scalp and dry ends, this is what works best for me.)

    I saw a girl who couldn’t figure out why her hair looked so thin. It was half way down her back and didn’t look good, just straggly. She hadn’t had a trim in years, so Aly’s point 1 was exactly right. So I brush out her hair and go to separate it at the back of her head for trimming and found that about 1/2 way up, she had a whole other layer...underneath. Don’t know what made me ask because I’d never seen it before, but I asked if she wore a ponytail. She said she did, every day to keep her hair out of her face while she worked. So I’m adding: if you have thin hair, watch out for rubber bands. The whole lower half of her hair in the back had broken off right where the rubber band/pony holder was worn. She got a trim, quit wearing ponytails every day and within a couple of months it looked totally different.

    I've started putting my hair in a loose ponytail on the very top of my head to keep my hair from getting all messed up during sleep. As a side-effect, I've noticed my hair is more voluminous in the morning because it was on top of my head all night. This may be a tip, though I have a different hair-type and can't predict whether, how, or for how long this method would affect thinner, sleek hair.

      I used to do the same when my straight, sleek hair was medium long. If I was going out, I would wash my hair in the morning, wear it up in a ponytail all day, then do a little styling before going out. It's a lazy way, instead of using big curlers to give root lift!

    Nice tips, but please do not mix up "thin" and "fine" hair. Thin hair means that you have sparse hair, less hair than average. The individual strands might thick or fine, but you have fewer strands than normal. Fine hair means the individual strands are fine aka not thick, but people with fine hair often have more hair aka strands than people with thick strands. The problem with fine hair though is that it is very soft and does therefore not hold volume well. The worst case is to have thin and fine hair...in any case, for each situation the solution is different...

      Later i got lazy and now am using very good shampoo with minimal chemicals. But mostly important - never keep shampoo in my hair for longer than few seconds. Pretty much wash it out immediately as i get it on top of my head- this prevents scalp from drying - i stopped loosing hair. No conditioner needed.

    instead of dry shampoo you can fill rice flour, which is very light, in a powder dispenser, and pour on your upper head and then rub it in with your head upside down. It is invisible and makes volume.

    My situation is that I have some ever so slight thinning from GI problems (diabetes-related) and with my natural light brown hair, you can see my scalp more b/c of the contrast in color from my scalp to my hair. So I find that when it is heavily highlighted blonde, you can't see through to my scalp as much. Also, the hair shaft is thicker from the bleaching process, so that gives me much more height when I style it vs. my natural where I have no lift. And of course I have it cut to a blunt bob, usually around my chin in length but no longer than to my collar bones. Gosh, I hope that made sense. It's a good formula that I always come back to when I stray a bit.

    I would also recommend only using hot scissors when cutting ur hair. Then the ends are sealed and pigments don't fall out, which leaves the ends thin. Also always using Olaplex when dyeing or bleaching the hair. Additionally a perm could help.

    • @Xana_K
      @Xana_K 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Pretty sure pigment doesn't 'fall' out. Heat would damage the ends immediately? And is illogical, anything done with heat can be undone with water. How does loss of pigment affect hair density?
      I don't understand what you're saying. Grey haired people don't suddenly get thin hair. The two aren't related?

    Very well-explained, I was once in that horrible stage of growing out my hair and my ends were curling upwards and they looked very thin and I also had layers which only made things worse. I go for only blunt cuts now but I was also thinking about forehead bangs and thanks for clarifying that it might not be the best option. Very correct about how it gets oily all the time, my friend has already warned me about it. But I am definitely going for some face-framing bangs as explained at tip #5.

      @tessltaekook8501 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe short hair would suit you. Like Alexandra Anele's hair (youtuber). It looks sexy on her and her hair is very thin. Then you wouldn't have to fight it anymore, just cut it regularly and style it everyday. With a short hairstyle you can style it differently everyday and have fun with it. Not every woman have to have long hair, or looks good in it. I know it's hard to let go of long hair (I mean below the shoulders or more) if you've always had it long but if it doesn't look good anymore and ages you then it's time for a change. And if it's not running in your family to have thin hair then maybe you lack of nutrition like protein or iron. So while you eat more healthy (for your body, everybody is different) and cut your hair short, you let it also rest from ponytails, buns and all other stuff that cause brakeage. And maybe in time you get a thicker hair that looks more healthy :)

    • @marie_anne_paris
      @marie_anne_paris 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tessltaekook8501 yeah I have a short bob right now but even if I try to style it the hair falls flat after just some minutes and gives an impression as if there was almost no hair at all -.- even my hairdresser can do nothing about, I guess that's how my hair just is. I'm affraid I wouldn't look good in a super short hair, you need to have a great bone structure for that in my opinion. Also I'm a bit muscular so I would be affraid to look too boyish. I do eat healthy it's just in my family genes, extremely delicate slavic hair.
      Perhaps some day I would give a very short cut a go but I'm not sure.

    I really noticed a difference when using coconut oil in my hair and i would apply just a bit, I would take hot/warm showers and the steam from the shower really helped the coconut oil to penetrate my hair and I would not actually wash my hair with shampoo for weeks at a time until i felt it really needed it and I wouldn't add anymore coconut oil until i shampooed my hair. I did nothing else with my hair, no conditioner, no products, no styling tools and I was amazed because my hair looked way thicker and healthier - holding great volume just shaping it with a comb after a shower and fluffing it upwards with my fingers. Not sure how this would work with long hair but it works great for short to half neck length hair.

      I too have stopped using shampoo unless I've gotten very sweaty or been in a lot of dust (like cleaning out a dusty garage). My fine hair now actually has a wave and some body and it doesn't snarl, I just rinse it really well about twice a week. This has made a huge difference for me. It is thinnest on the sides but from the ears back is a normal thickness although still fine. I cut curtain bangs, blended into the sides and it is now down to my waist in the back. But I'm trying to decide whether to add some color/highlights - the ends are a nice dark golden brownish but the top part is darker brown (I've always been golden until I stopped highlights in my 50s). The dark top seems to weigh me down, and I am 5'1" so don't need to look shorter. I just turned 70 and would love some hair advice! I'm interested in a choppy lob but don't know if I have enough hair for that!

    Thanks for the tips. .This video just helped me decide that my long term goal is to have one blunt length to at least below the collarbone when I walk out of the salon, and I'll let it grow to armpit length - maybe. I'm typical of the type of woman, of SE Asian descent, whose hair grows sparse but fast!
    I have a flat head, coarse straight hair, and a round face and the color is naturally off-black, it looks thicker with lighter top highlights that start at least 1cm from my scalp. My stylist knew not to start the highlights at my scalp, even though I forgot to tell her.
    My hair is in a very hard stage and slightly longer in the front, which I like, but I have future plans in kitchen work, so I need to be able to easily secure my hair away from my face, and NO bangs ever again. Short bobs or anything short around my face, bends in an unattractive kink , because of my glasses, when its loose.
